Disadvantages: Can mess up some downloads but this is very rare.

...The name is kind of self explanatory. It is called download accelerator and it accelerates downloads. Simple. Download accelerator splits your file into 4 smaller pieces, and downloads each one seperately, it then joins them all together at the end. This reduces the time you have to spend downloading a massive file by about three times! I find it so useful. Especially when I am downloading files which are up to 16 mb! Also, and this is one of my favourite things about it, is that if either your computer disconnects for no apparent reason while you've been downloading a file, or you need to come of the internet (or anything like that) then you can resume your download the next time you are online. So if you are downloading a 16mb file, you don't have to do it all in one go. It's a very handy program to have.... Read review

...I think the need for a download manager of some sort has already been adequately covered, so I will just concentrated on Download Accelerator. I have only recently started using this product on the recommendation of a collegue, having previously used GoZilla. I find that Download accelerator is slightly faster than GoZilla, which I believe it attains by making multiple connections to the same site, or to any alternative sites and getting data from the quickest. It supports resumable downloads (download carries on from where it left off if it fails for any reason). I believe that it can under some circumstances force resumes on servers that don't support it!!?? Not sure how it does this, and I have not be able to test this feature as it cannot work via a proxy server which we use. All round a good product which I would highly... Read review

...This is a free download manager and you can download it from shareware.com! Do you ever download things from the internet that comes in big files. Well i think you need this application because if you get disconnected at any point you would lose the whole file. Isn't it so annoying if you are half way through downloading and a problem occurs and then you lose the file and you cant remember the site? Download Accelerator not only download the file for you it also resumes broken downloads. So if anything happens or if you want to get off the internet you can be sure to resume it the next day without starting from scratch! This program is simple to use and when its not in use it stays in your system tray and waits patiently for the next download! The best thing is that it is freeware so you dont have to pay for it... Download Accelerator claims to download software upto 3 times faster than normal by using multiple connections between the download site and your ISP. In reality you're unlikely to notice much speed increase, perhaps because the unregistered shareware version is plastered with adverts, but once you've started the download you can just leave it be and minimise the window. DAP will automatically search for the best download site and can download upto two files at a time.
