Advantages: Central location, good for holiday accomodation. Disadvantages: Not really distinctive.
...the other well know touristy beaches. Then you can go a bit further afield and go down west to the quaint towns and villages of St. Ives and the like, which are all very pretty if a bit out of the way. Although there is quite a pretty little area of St. Austell called Charlestown which has a nice little harbour. There isn't really a beach to speak of but it's worth an explore if you are staying in St. Austell and don't fancy going too far one day.
St. Austell town centre is actually being regenerated at the moment, so there is not really a lot to see and do in St. Austell, but I don't think that would be a bad thing for a holiday maker as you tend to be out and about most of the time anyway. There are plenty of places to stay in St. Austell, due to it being so central. The accommodation ranges from Travelodges and Premier Inns to posh hotels...
Advantages: Polite and helpful staff, clean hotel. Disadvantages: Bed a bot on the small side for my husband.
...After an incredible weekend away with my darling husband to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary, I have now decided to do my first and quite possibly my last hotel review!
Our destination of choice for this excursion was to be a place new to us, so of course the hotel had to be in a prime location at a price we could afford?fortunately we seemed to fall on our feet so to speak on both of these points.
Our destination, to be exact was York, and due to the sheer number of attractions available to us, we wanted a hotel reasonably central, or at least within walking distance of the few sights we wished to see.
After some extensive research, mostly through the designated York tourist board site, we came across the perfect hotel.
St Denys hotel, a small but very quaint hotel, housing 13 rooms only, but with it?s own parking...

Review of St Denys Hotel, York
Advantages: lovely food, polite staff, great swimming pool Disadvantages: no sea view, small television
...My husband and I have just spent 5 nights at the Merton Hotel in St Saviour in Jersey, Channel Islands.
We stayed from Sundary 2 September 2007 to Friday 7 September 2007 and we had a great stay.
The Merton Hotel is owned by Seymour Hotels and is a 3 star hotel. Jersey have their own system of rating hotels which is different to the UK, but the ratings are of a very high standard.
We stayed in a double ensuite room and we had free half board for the price of bed and breakfast.
We booked through Condor Ferries and took our own car and paid a total of £769 for the trip (£79 of which was for the car ferry travel).
OUR BEDROOM
+++++++++++++++
Our room was plainly and pleasantly decorated, with chrome light fittings everywhere. The furniture was ample, being a built in wardrobe, dressing table and chest of drawers...
Advantages: Amazing, all round Disadvantages: None!
...This hotel is undoubtedly the best I have ever stayed in. Here's why...
We booked this hotel as a top secret hotel through lastminute.com, paying £86 for the room for the night of Saturday 26th Septmeber 2009. For anyone who isn't familiar with lastminute's top secret system you basically get a star rating and description, but not the name of the hotel before you book. However, for London hotels if you put the description into Google you can easily find out which one matches the description, so we knew what we were getting before we booked.
We arrived by Tube from King's Cross station to St. Paul's Underground station. From here the hotel is fairly easy to find. Just follow the signs for the cathdral then look for Godliman Street on the other side of the cathedral and you can't miss it. The transport links to the hotel are good...
Advantages: 5* comofort and luxury , great bed Disadvantages: expensive bar prices, builidng has little character from outside
...Working over Christmas can be the pits. You are slaving away whilst everyone else is tucking into turkey and watching the Queen's speech. However it does have its little benefits occasionally . This year I had a surprise perk of a night in the brand new 5 star The Grange St Pauls, as I was working the midnight shift on Christmas Eve then back at work at 9am on Christmas morning. We worked out with the company's special discount it was cheaper to stay in a 5 star hotel than get a taxi home and back during the Christmas period. The grange was also very suitable for us as it is a two minute stroll to work. What luxury!
The Grange St Pauls is aptly named as it is located in a side street just opposite St Paul's. Cathedral. I can see it being a favourtite with city slicker executive types due to its proximity to the Stock Exchange...
Advantages: Tasty, light and fresh. A really good balanced beer. Disadvantages: A little more expensive than some beers.
...We went out for lunch with my mum and dad on Tuesday to the Wellington Hotel in New Whittington (near Chesterfield). Our lunch was excellent and so was the beer. The Wellie has a choice of up to three Cask Ales and we tried two each ~ Alun had St. Austell Tribute and Jennings Snecklifter and I had Snecklifter and Tribute. My dad tried the Camerons Strongarm and even my lager drinking mother had a half of the Tribute. I?ve already reviewed Snecklifter and Strongarm, so I will now tell you about St. Austell Tribute!
~~~THE BREWERY.
The St. Austell Brewery Company Limited started back in 1851 ~ funnily enough in St. Austell in Cornwall. It was founded by Walter Hicks a farmer who mortgaged his farm to fund his new business. The Brewery is still a family owned business who now (according to the company info on their website) own...
...My partner and I recently stayed in the Grange St Pauls just over Christmas due to my work Christmas party and we certainly enjoyed it!
Price
We got the room through Lastminute.com and it was one of their ?secret hotels? which you can generally find out what it is with a simple google search. We payed £115 for the room on a Saturday night which we thought was a great price considering the time of year and the fact that it is a 5* hotel.
Location
The hotel is located quite literally across from St Paul?s cathedral and has 3 very convenient tube stops nearby ? St Paul?s (Central Line), Mansion House (Circle & District) and Blackfriars (Mainline). This makes it very easy to get to many of London?s attractions easily. We got off at Mansion house and from there it was no more than a five minute walk to the hotel. As with most of London...
Advantages: Great base to see Cornwall, cheap, close to the Eden Project. Disadvantages: Windows don't open enough, so was too hot!
...This is going to be a very long review, I have decided the best way in which to make this as helpful as possible is to write it in clearly divided sections so that you can skip the parts which are not of interest to you.
THE BACKGROUND. THE PROBLEMS WITH OUR ORIGINAL BOOKING. WHY STAUSTELL?
It is my partners birthday this month so a while ago I asked him a question, did he want a to be lavished with gifts as I normally do for his birthday and Christmas or did he want me to book a hotel for a few days as his gift? He loves to get away from it all and explore new places so without any hesitation he said hotel. I said that I would book it all and he could stay in the dark until he wanted to know if he wanted, he loved the idea. He decided that if he could hold out he wanted to wait till the morning we were leaving.
I said to...
Advantages: Cheap, decent food Disadvantages: Customer service, general staff attitude
...I live in Cornwall. I used to live on the north coast, near Redruth, however my boyfriend and I now live between Truro and StAustell. There is a Pizza Hut in Truro and a Pizza Hut in StAustell, we have visited the Truro restaurant many times and we have never had a problem with any aspect of the establishment. However we have recently started going to the StAustell eatery, some things are great and some things are not so great.
Let's start with a little history of Pizza Hut. The very first Pizza Hut was opened in 1958 in Kansas by Frank and Dan Carney. The original restaurant was small, with only 25 seats, the sign was small, with only enough room for nine characters, they wanted to include PIZZA in the name, and so PIZZA HUT was born. It took 15 years for Pizza Hut to make it to the United Kingdom. Today, Pizza Hut are the largest...
Review of Pizza Hut, StAustell
Advantages: Reception, Balcony, Breakfast Bar, Rooms Disadvantages: First Impression
...expensive journey. Luckily the return trip wasn't the same but it's not like you can argue with them nor do anything. So with my first impression of the locals engraved in stone in my mind I got out of the taxi to find the Cardinal Hotel, St Peters.
- The Address
The address suggests that the hotel is basically on the door step of the Vatican its self. I have no idea why it was so similar to the address of the actual St Peters because the Cardinal Hotel is on the out skirts of the city. Even one or two of the taxi drivers who had been around for a while weren't sure where it was.
To get to the hotel you have to turn off a main road after avoiding some mad traffic (that's how they drive there) into a back street which looks like it has taken a beating over the years and could do with someone tearing it apart and relaying the concrete...
