Crowne Plaza St James - A Great London Hotel Happy to See You
Advantages: Great Location. Excellent standard of service. Relatively good value for London.
Disadvantages: No Pool. That's about it!
...INTRODUCTION
I booked dinner and theatre for my wife's thirtieth birthday, and needed a relatively up-market hotel in London - with a bit of ?wow? factor - to overnight in. I am a frequent visitor to IC Hotel Group properties on business (these include the five star Intercontinental Hotels, the four to five star Crowne Plaza, and the three to four star Holiday Inn) and am a member of their award-winning ?Priority Club? loyalty scheme, so I decided to use my accumulated points to redeem a ?Reward Night? and stay for free. The hotel is on Buckingham Gate, with extensive frontage featuring an attractive red and white brick façade with decorative arches, reminiscent of Florentine architecture.
GETTING TO & FROM
The hotel is in the heart of Westminster. It?s a short, three minute, walk from St James? Park Tube...

St Georges, the University of London (SGUL)
Advantages: probably best teaching in london and certainly best value med school in london
Disadvantages: still expensive compared to outside london, lack of multifacet uni, budget in recent years
...If you're looking to study in london then SGUL is a good choice to make, probably second only to Barts.
What attracted me to SGUL first was the amount of sincerity in its press. It offers an education based in the biggest hospital in london , and therefore the biggest amount of departments you can learn from. Everything you need for a medical education is nearby until you come to the inevitable clinicals years when everyone of course moves in and out of campus. Imagine having to travel in from halls for half an hour each way, or having to trek across london to get to see a doctor at Imperial and you'll soon see the advantage this offers. More time to do what you want as well!
Another big plus is the value that SGUL represents to a london student. Saving something between 30 to 70 pounds per week on out of halls rent over places...

St George The Patron Saint of Sainsburys
Advantages: It's by possibly the best overall brewery around, it's relatively cheap
Disadvantages: It's a mix of better Youngs beers, and the sum of the parts don;t make the whole, it's also exclusive to Sainsbury's, which means a 14 mile drive for me!
...St George ? patron saint of England. Symbol of English spirit, bravery in the face of adversity, stiff upper lip. What better personification of this great land to choose for a thoroughly English ale? And so we have Young?s St George?s. Never heard of it? No, well neither have I!
Having seen this ale mentioned in the hallowed lists of ciao, I felt pangs of guilt that I hadn?t even heard of this ale. Even worse was that it was brewed by the fair hands of Young?s, whose Double Chocolate Stout, London Ale, Waggle Dance and Old Nick all feature regularly in my beer cupboard restocking (yes, I do have a cupboard just for beer!) The shame of it. Would people point and whisper behind my back if they knew I hadn?t heard of this ale? Would ciao members in their hundreds turn their backs on my ops, even those loyal few who know of my addictions...

worst hotel complex in malta,St Georges Hotel
Advantages: ?????
Disadvantages: food, noise, rooms, swimming pools, position in fact everything
...Our last minute "allocated on arrival" holiday was cheap. The courier told us that the St Georges Park Hotel was in a lively part of town, with easy access to the whole of the island.
The entrance to the hotel was impressive but not grand, and the tired 1960s foyer suggested to us what the rest of the hotel was like. We slowly, as the lift only had two speeds (extremely slow and stop), rose to the eighth floor and trundled our luggage along the dark and dismal corridor to our apartment. I use the term advisedly because the room was fairly grim. Its cold tiled floor housed two single beds that would not have been out of place in a local homeless centre's dormitory. They were covered with bedding that I think must have been purchased when the hotel was built. It was clean but extremely thin and in need of replacement. There was a TV...

Slaying St George
Advantages: Sadistic - great viewing
Disadvantages: Can't smell the money
...TV - Dragons Den
Reality TV Show - BBC TWO - 9- 10 pm Monday nights
BBC TWO repeats it at 7:00 pm on the following Tuesday
URL link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dragonsden/
Current Dragons:
Duncan Bannatyne, James Caan, Peter Jones, Deborah Meaden, Theo Paphitis
Titled: Slaying St George
---------++++++++++++------
St George certainly wouldn't understand this TV concept in fact he would of thought we had gone completely mad. For a start he wouldn't be able to get up the stairs with his horse and the only weapon required is the word as the sword. A killer sales pitch that would mesmerize the dragons into handing over their business know-how and wads of cash; one of the hidden agendas in this program is the steep see through stairs and squash-ball hitting sound effects that greet the entrepreneurs if you can call them...

A Little London Luxury
Advantages: The room, The location, The reception service
Disadvantages: The breakfast
...are usually too restrictive to be useful, but I investigated further and found that there was a room available for the weekend we wanted it, on the spring break rate and in a good, central London location - at the Crowne Plaza St James. The offer rate was valid for standard rooms only (rather than superior rooms or suites) and began at £60 per night including breakfast for up to two adults, varying up to around £100 per night for those hotels that had higher non-offer rates; we paid £95 a night for our room. To me, this still seems like quite a lot of money, but a quick search on google showed that staying in the nearest Holiday Inn (incidentally, part of the same chain as Crowne Plaza and usually much more budget-friendly) for the same weekend would have actually cost more! More to the point, the normal room rate for a standard room...

Starbucks in St Katharine's Dock London
Advantages: Great views, great atmosphere, great coffee
Disadvantages: A bit expensive
...Everybody knows Starbucks, the largest coffee house in the world. I am going to review the one in St Katharine's Dock in London as this is my nearest and dearest.
I think Starbucks is rather like marmite, you either love it or you hate it. Some people hate the fact that they have to pay £3 for a cup of coffee, other people can't get enough. I am definitely in the second camp, I am a Starbucks fan. I think what has captured the world is their relationship with coffee, they like to think of their stores as a "third place", ie the third place you go in this world after home and work and I think it is this attitude that produces the friendly asmosphere and sense of belonging that their houses promote.
The store in St Katharine's dock is a beautiful building, it is a round, almost mill looking type building with a dome on top and has...

LA TASCA AT ST MARTINS LANE LONDON
Advantages: SERVE QUICKLY AND DELICIOUS FOOD
Disadvantages: NONE
...My family and I were on holiday in London recently and on the Saturday evening we were booked to see a show that started at 7.30pm so we needed to find somewhere to eat in the West End where we could be in and out fairly quickly.
We stumbled upon La Tasca in St Martins Lane in The West End and having previously visited our local La Tasca in Plymouth a couple of times decided to eat there. It did look small from the outside so peeped in first to see how big it was and if it was really busy.
Appearances are deceptive and inside it really stretched back a very long way and it was busy but not heaving. The tables were laid out really well and nobody seemed to encroaching on anybody elses space. The atmosphere was calm, relaxed and candlelit and bearing in mind it was about 6pm and still light outside, we felt away from the hustle...

LUXURY IN LONDON!
Advantages: Brilliant rooms, service, food, internet etc
Disadvantages: expensive!!!
...In the middle of February, I was lucky enough to be whisked away for a long weekend in London with my grandma. I?m a huge fan of west end shows and musicals, and so our trip was booked- we would go and see various different shows. I couldn?t wait to go.
One thing I hadn?t thought of before going however was which hotel we were staying in. I reckoned that we wouldn?t be spending too much time in the hotel itself, as we were going to be very busy, so as long as it had two beds, a bathroom and some sort of wardrobe I?d have been happy. I knew the name of the hotel was The Grosvenor, however I didn?t have a clue what its reviews were like, or in fact how many stars it had.
Getting to the hotel
We had absolutely no problem finding the hotel. We took the train from our hometown, to King?s Cross in London. We only had to wait...
