St Helens Goats Milk

Advantages: Tastes just like dairy milk
Disadvantages: a little more expensive than dairy milk

...ears. Goats milk is essentially the same as cows milk in terms of nutritional value but goats milk has about 20% less cholestrol than cows milk. It also containts less folic acid therefore expectant mums would require folic acid supplements to make up the difference if they made the switch. Other than that they are the same. There is no difference in taste or smell at all and when used as an ingredient in receipies e.g cakes, custard etc it behaves the same as cows milk. St Helens Goats milk comes in both whole and semi-skimmed forms in either 750ml or 1L cartons. I buy the Whole Milk 1L carton from Sainsburys. Unfortunately I can't remember how much it costs. £1.89 rings a bell but it seems rather expensive now that I see it written down :). Next time I'm there I'll take a closer look and update the review if necessary. Anyway...

St Helens and Mount Rainier

Advantages: Stunning and shocking
Disadvantages: Bad weather may result in disappointment.....

...disappointment somewhat. The park contains all the usual features that come with National parks in general: camping and picnic-ing facilities, toilets and the odd restaurant/visitors centre. There are excellent opportunities for a whole host of outdoor pursuits such as hiking, mountain climbing, boating, cycling, fishing and swimming and it would be easy to spend a few days here. As far as I remember you have to pay a small fee to enter the parks which is per car taken in but once there all of this natural beauty is completely free! I've included some pictures of Mount Rainier itself and of the National park in general below. ****Mount St Helens**** Mount St Helens National Park, which is 96 miles from Seattle, now stands in stark and bleak contrast to the lush and fertile grounds that surround Mount Ranier, even though the mountain is...

Raising Helen

Advantages: Certificate PG so it's suitable for nearly everyone
Disadvantages: The cinema is expensive and this film is very average

...This film is due on general release in the UK shortly but I thought I'd write about it as I had a sneak preview. This PG film directed by Garry Marshall stars Kate Hudson as Helen Harris, a woman who "inherits" guardianship of her nieces and nephew when her sister and brother-in-law die in an accident. Joan Cusack and John Corbett co-star. The children are played rather well by Hayden Panettiere (Audrey), Spencer Breslin (Henry) and Abigail Breslin (Sarah). Helen's glamourous New York modelling world is turned upside down as she tries to be a parent. Her sister Jenny already has children and can't resist interfering. Gradually the two women come to an understanding, as they also come to terms with the loss of their other sister. Jenny doesn't work and she's rather self-righteous but she's actually quite jealous of her sister...

Helen of Troy

Advantages: Gives a Slightly Different Version of Events
Disadvantages: Is A Bit Long

...Alexandros takes pity on him and saves him bringing him up as his own son and renaming him Paris. A few years later the now grown up Paris played by Matthew Marsden, chases a stray goat into a cave. Overheated from the run he takes a sip of water and starts to feel dizzy and a vision appears before him of the three goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite. The goddesses are having a debate about who is the fairest among them and they have decided that Paris is to choose the winner. In order to sway his judgement they each offer a prize for picking them. Athena offers great wisdom, Hera offers great Kingdoms and wealth and Aphrodite offers the most beautiful woman in the world and shows Paris a vision of Helen. At the same time that Paris is looking at this vision of Helen, she is also seeing his face through a vision in a pool. When we...

Helen Fielding and the Underactive Imagination

Advantages: It can pass the time
Disadvantages: Nothing really original

...As popular as the first two were, there could never have been a third Bridget Jones book. After all, what else was there for her to do? She's caught her man, so perhaps marriage and kids, but it would have been difficult to make that funny. Think about it: "7.02 a.m. Changed baby's nappy. 7.05 a.m. Changed nappy again. How can something so small create so much waste?" It's amusing, but a year of that would have got very boring very quickly. It was time for Helen Fielding and her readers to move on. More accurately, in fact, it was time for her to go full circle. Fielding's debut novel, "Cause Celeb" was written in the standard style, without the diary format, although told largely in the first person by a female lead character. So the same style is used for "Olivia Joules and the Overactive Imagination". Olivia Joules is...

ST Tropez Autobronzant

Advantages: Nice even colour, can see where it has been applied already
Disadvantages: Messy and expensive

...*Introduction* The St Tropez autobronzant is a thick lotion which you apply on your face and body, and then leave to absorb for 4 hours before washing off to reveal your tan. It promises to be 'non-greasy' and 'quick drying' with a 'relaxing aromatic scent'. It comes in one shade only, but you can reapply two nights in a row to deepen the tan. I have really pale skin that doesn't tan at all naturally, so I have to be careful what fake tan I use as I can be left with orange coloured skin! *Packaging and Price* The packaging is quite simple and whereas most fake tanning products come in a brown or orange bottle, it is distinctive as it comes in a white bottle with black writing. When buying, look carefully at the bottle to check you have the right product though as the St Tropez body polish comes in a very similar bottle...

When the saints go marching on

Advantages: great result for GB rugby
Disadvantages: not shown on terrestrial tv

...St Helens gave the whole of British Rugby League a boost with there fantastic win over Brisbane Broncos at Bolton proving the we Brits can at least beat the Aussies at something! No one including me gave Saints a chance and although I'm a Yorkshire lad and not a big fan of them neccessarily I think it was a great result. The Aussie champions Brisbane just thought they could turn up and roll the Saints over like Melbourne did with forty odd points in last years corresponding world club challenge final. This time however St Helens under coasch Millward were made of much sterner stuff and they matched there glamourous rivals in every department. It begs the question of course now that St Helens are the world club champs after this 22 -18 win whether they can go on and win the super league title again in England this year...

Meet me in St Louis

Advantages: Magnificent skyline. Lots to do and see. Wonderful music heritage.
Disadvantages: A number of attractions not wheelchair accessible

...We first approached St Louis at twilight and were immediately charmed by the unusual skylight dominated by The Gateway Arch which was bathed in a warm amber glow. We had driven down from Chicago along Route 66 and were pretty tired so we has little time or energy to explore ? St Louis would have to wait until daylight. ~~What?s in a name~~ First faux-pas of our trip! My pronunciation of St Louis was as in the title of the Judy Garland film and song. Wrong! A local born and bred in St Louis soon corrected me. The English pronunciation is lu-is. Lu-ee is the French pronunciation little used within the city. St Louis is named after King Louis IX of France ? the only French king that was made into a saint. The city was founded by French explorers, Louis Joliet and Jacques Marquette in 1673. Saint Louis is often known as the Gateway City...
