AKA St Freezens....

Advantages: Modern, plenty to do.
Disadvantages: Detracts from other areas of town.

...Having been to the new St Stephens shopping centre just yesterday, and having ventured round a bit more of it, I figure the time has come to review it... The shopping centre opened in September 2007, as part of a regeneration project in Hull, which included the development of the city's transport interchange alongside, & the re-location of the Hull Truck Theatre. The centre is beautifully designed, with the glass roof representing a giant wave, but, whilst the design may LOOK good, it is fundamentally flawed in as much as the doors at either end are in a direct line, creating a 'wind tunnel' effect, giving rise to the local nickname 'St Freezens'. Yes folks, it's COLD in there. The ground floor houses many high street stores, including TK Maxx, Argos, Adams Kids, Pumpkin Patch, USC, Zara, H&M, Topshop/Topman, Next, River...

Review of St Stephen's Shopping and Leisure Complex

Shop till you drop

Advantages: Modern, streamlined, ample parking, stylish, great range of shops.
Disadvantages: Trade of local shops may suffer

..., as a child, I would go into these showrooms with my Mum they seemed oh so posh. The carpet was plush and there was a huge circular light covering the ceiling which would morph from blue to violet to green etc. Years late this building too was falling into disrepair. Even the train station had some special memories as I worked in some offices at the front ,above the station back in about 1975. THE DEVELOPMENT When plans were drawn up for the St Stephens Development it was hard to imagine what it would really be like. Ferensway in the heart of the City Centre of Hull used to be a thriving area. However, lately, it had started to look run down and had lost many of its shops. The St Stephens development looked set to put some life back in Ferensway. The bus station was temporarily moved to George Street. This took some getting used...

WEST FIELD SHOPPING CENTRE DERBY

Advantages: COSTLY
Disadvantages: OUT PRICING SMALLER OUTLETS

...Recent talks on cutting spending and new shopping centres are not well-matched with each other. Yes we love these new shopping centres and plush surroundings, tempting everyone to spend all their well earned money. But are we tempted? This is the multimillion dollar question. I love to shop like everybody else and buy new things like any other normal person would, also to have a good choice. So my idea of shopping is the traditional high street. Traditional high street shopping is where you will find the best choice and a variety of shops to suit everyone, Building huge shopping centres takes up space of any town or city and is becoming really outdated and boring. Today another shopping centre opens its doors and it is mammoth like those of Gates Head in...

Review of Shopping Centres - General

Inspiring Capital,Inspiring Shopping Centre?

Advantages: Very Clean, Easy to get around, Lots of Space
Disadvantages: Too few shops, not on two levels, not that easy to get to

...The Gyle Shopping Centre in Edinburgh which opened in October 1993 is one of 4 main shopping centres in Edinburgh. The others are Cameron Toll, St James Centre, Waverley Market(Princes Mall) and Ocean Terminal. There is also Westside Plaza but this isn't exactly what you call a main shopping centre and Straiton park,Craigleith(The Quarry) and Fort Kinnaird are all Retail parks. The Gyle is a approx a 10 minute drive from Edinburgh International Airport by car/taxi. It is approx a 30 minute drive from the City Centre depending on the time of day and the route you take to get there as it is often very congested nearby due to it being directly opposite Edinburgh Park(Home to the RBOS headquarters and a whole host of big companies) .The area round the Gyle is mostly businesses and there is are many houses nearby within walking distance...

Review of Gyle Shopping Centre

The Centre MK

Advantages: Vast range of stores
Disadvantages: Some duplicate stores

...This Review is for the Centre M.K which is a huge shopping centre in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The shopping centre is managed in two parts, the first being the Centre MK and the second a place named Midsummer Place. The actual opening date for the shopping centre was September 25th 1979 and has over 260 stores inside. This might have changed quite a lot since the current recession and stores shutting down. This will be an insight to what the centre has to offer and what you can find there. Opening Hours Monday - Wednesday 09:30am -- 06:00pm Thursday - Friday 09:30am -- 08:00pm Saturday 09:00am -- 06:00pm Sunday and Bank Holidays 11:00am -- 05:00pm Layout The centre is laid out extremely well. You walk in through a door which is numbered. This door is the way back to your car. Every so often you find...

De Bradlei Wharf Shopping Centre

Advantages: Discount goods, nicely laid out
Disadvantages: None

...Location The De Bradelei Wharf in Dover, is located in Cambridge Road which is just off the main A20 dual carriageway. It is only a ten inute walk from the train station and a fifteen minute walk from the main bus station. It is about a five minute walk from Dover Town Centre market square. De Bradelei Wharf This shopping outlet is built in the historic Wellington Dock area of the town which is just behind the sea front with ample pay and display parking. If you buy something in store, the cost of your parking will be refunded. The cost of the pay and display is £2.50. There are plenty of disabled parking bays too. The entrance is constructed on decking which runs the full length of the complex on one side. Here you can sit outside and enjoy the hanging baskets which are put out in the summer months. The De Bradelei Wharf...

---St Enoch centre (Glasgow) ---

Advantages: Main Stream shops, eating area.
Disadvantages: A tad grotty, confusing entrances and exits!

...BACKGROUND: ----------------------- The St Enoch centre in the middle of Glasgow is the largest shopping centre in Scotland...and impressively also the largest glass structure in Europe. The centre opened in 1989 and since then has become a popular complex for Glaswegians/visitors. STORES: ---------------------- St Enoch has the major stores you would expect to see in every town centre...TK Maxx, Boots, Bhs, Debenhams etc...you are spolit for choice! There is a mixture of shops for men, women and children so I epspecially like that the complex isn't aimed at any specific gender or age. There's a salon, newsagents, travel agents, bank, and even a chinese medicine shop! so you have everything under one roof...especially good for all those ladies who don't want to spoil their hairdo with all the bad scottish weather...

St John and his tower

Advantages: I know i can always rely on "the precinct"
Disadvantages: it can be quite dingy on a cold winters day

...Never in a million years would I have thought of doing an op on St John's precinct. But after coming across several somewhat negative reviews on the place i wouldn't be able to sleep without giving people the opportunity to read what St John's shopping centre is really all about. <<<<LOCATION>>>> St John's Shopping Centre is located in the heart of Liverpool, in a central location of the main shopping district in the city - familiarly referred to as "town" (even though Liverpool is a city. lol) Its official address is: 125 St George's Way Liverpool L1 1LY St John's really cannot be missed or avoided as once you are in town it can be seen from absolutely everywhere. The outside of the building is painted green (earlier episodes of brookside will show the centre in...

Review of St Johns Precinct Mall (Shopping Centre)

Shops gallore

Advantages: Big, central
Disadvantages: really busy

...St Steven's Green Shopping centre is right at the bottom of Grafton Street next to St. Steven's Green Park. Now you are all saying, very well, but where is Grafton Street? Ok coming from either the main bus station or the train station you walk round the corner to Lower Gardiner Street, with loads of youth hostels and bed and breakfasts. Cross the road and walk straight until u come to O'Connell Bridge. Now cross to the other sde of bridge and turn left and keep walking. You will pass a souvenir shop and then the good old statue of Molly Molone with her wheel barrow, cross that small road, with Trinity College to the left of you and walk straight and you will be lead into Grafton street. And at the very bottom on the right is the shopping centre. Ok now we have that clear... St. Steven's Green shopping centre has 4 floors including...

Review of St Stephen´s Green Centre

One of the first out of town shopping centres and still popular

Advantages: Indoors, warm, wide variety of shops
Disadvantages: A little dated after over 20 years

...The metro centre is a very large out of town shopping centre, and was one of the first out of town shopping centres in the UK. It is all indoors, with individual shops accessed from galleried walkways. It is quite complicated to navigate due to the size, but there are maps on every corner. Since then the site has expanded and there are now many separate shops such as IKEA, ILVA, ASDA, furniture shops, Pizza Hut, etc. These are all located outside the main metro centre complex, there is a shuttle bus between the different stores, as once outside the main metro centre you are faced with a fairly baffling car-led road system. Within the metro centre there is a cinema, lots of restaurants and bars, the shops (of course!) and a big indoor theme park to keep the kids amused while you do your shopping. There is a huge variety of shops, great...
