The Roger Williams Hotel
Review of The Roger Williams, New York City by
NcNyc
Advantages: comfortable room, friendly staff, mezzanine
Disadvantages: none
...ROGER WILLIAMS HOTEL – 31st St. & Madison Ave. – NYC
Imagine this ---
Your car pulls up to an unpretentious building on a NYC street corner. You step out and experience a feeling akin to safety. (Yes, in NY). It is clean. It is busy, but it is quiet.
You pull open a heavy glass door (feeling of security) and step inside. Immediately, your eyes widen to capture vastness, a grand piano and breathtaking pillars that seem to rise to the sky. Glistening sun and earth tones cause a feeling of warmth to seep to your very core. Instantly, a bellhop approaches and offers to take your bags. Your feet follow him, but your head keeps turning back to marvel.
At the front desk, a very friendly clerk greets you in a very friendly manner. The check-in process is quick and handled with courtesy and respect --- no confusion...

The Place to See Painted Enamels
Review of Wolverhampton in General by
ashford
Advantages: Wonderful enamels collection. Central location.
Disadvantages: Industrialised.
...and the Birmingham Art Museum. Both are located in the West Midlands, about 1 ½ hour train ride from London. The Bantock has an absolutely outstanding collection.
Enamel ware has retained its popularity to this day. Not only is it beautiful, but it also can be a good form of investment. Quality pieces can bring hundreds of pounds at auction. If you're interested in buying some pieces, the best places to find them are probably the auction houses. Try Christies at 8 King St. St James, London or Sothebys ,which is located at 34/35 New Bond St,London. Remember though these beautiful pieces were produced in places like Bilston and Wednesbury and if you are just interested in viewing them,go to Wolverhampton !...

'Do you know the way to St Tropez?'
Review of St Tropez Body Polish by
elvyelvy
Advantages: Leaves skin silky and ready for self-tanning products
Disadvantages: Expensive
...For all of you who have read my explorations into the world of sunless tanning you will know that thorough exfoliation BEFORE applying any product is essential for a good result. This means that no matter how much you fork out for a fake tan, the result will almost always be dodgy and somewhat streaky.
To help me get the elusive natural tan, without the streaks, I reached for a bottle of St Tropez Body Polish (which is Step 1 in the ST sequence; Step 2 is moisturising, 3 the actual application of the fakie) about 2 years ago when I first tried the ST (St Tropez) range. I got this a part of a set but individually the 240ml bottle retails at about £10 which may seem quite expensive (and certainly more than most high street brands) but this product does last for an extremely long time.

Broken Holiday When September Ended
Review of American Idiot (Special Edition - Behind The Scenes/Parental Advisory/+DVD) [PA] - Green Day by
galaxynicole
Advantages: Fantastic songs and moving lyrics
Disadvantages: extras aren't worth the extra money
...song and musically it's lovely but combined with the lyrics and Billie's voice, it sounds a bit too much like an Oasis/The Verve song.
"Are We The Waiting" is a slow song. In the intro, you can just hear the drums in the foreground and then just a slight bit of guitar in but after 1.30 minutes of this song, it gets a boring and repetitive. It's like a very long intro for the next song "St. Jimmy"
"St. Jimmy" is for all the old fans out there. This song is pure punk and it's got some brilliant guitar. It makes you want to jump up and down.
"Wake Me Up When September Ends" is a beautiful acoustic power ballad. I'd say this is the song where you can see if Green Day have grown up from their previous album.
"Extraordinary Girl" This song reminds me quite a lot of "Good Riddance (Times of Your Life) It has the same...

Queen of the May
Review of Everything that starts with Q ... by
hiker
Advantages: ~
Disadvantages: ~
...again.
Strangely.
Strangely familiar.
It was just like a holiday. Camping. In the country. But then not going home afterwards. Most of the children had asked after a while, when they'd be going home. So a school was built, and they learnt that 'home' was a transferable concept. Or that maybe it didn't exist at all. It was a sad time among the very young…for they remembered the friends left behind. Jamie three floors down….and Alice from school….and the ginger tom on the corner of High St & St Leonards, and the piebald pony at the top of Church Lane… The grown-ups didn't seem to miss anyone. Liossa watched their haunted worried expressions: she saw the lines of long days and exhausted nights; she saw the fear when the droughts came and food was short; but she never saw amongst them the searching for a familiar face that each child...

10. Long Hair or Short Hair?
I have long, I’d like to have short but have not got the guts to have it cut off. I’m a wimp when it comes to my hair.
11. Ray (Big Brother) or Scott (Big Brother)?
Hmmmm sorry I’m lost, I don’t know, I can’t stand big brother. The 1st one was ok but now it has been dragged out for too long. Plus I got a big kiss for Craig the winner of the 1st in St James Palace.
12. Star Trek or Star Wars?
Ah sorry did I fall asleep there? Not for me thank you. Not my taste.
13. Teletubbies or Tweenies?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm????????????????
14. Horse or Donkey?
Erm… another tough one. It will have to be horse I think and my reason, well I don’t really have a reason. They look cuter.
15. Shark or Dolphin?
Sharks are beautiful but so...

Surviving the reality
Review of A Child Called It - Dave Pelzer by
Emma1973
Advantages: Opens your eyes to what really goes on behind closed doors
Disadvantages: Very graphic, may be too upsetting for some
...them as they are separate books, but needless to say I was shocked by what happens in the first chapter of The Lost Boy and its definitely on my list of must have's for Christmas.
I encountered lots of emotions during this book, hate, sympathy, sorrow, despair and downright anger and that was the way I was feeling! We all know that it exists but this book makes us face up to it, in a stark way that may make us feel uncomfortable, child abuse is still something we are still sweeping under the carpet, My God, donkey sanctuaries get more charity money than any child charities do. We know we should all do something about it, but have we got the guts to do so? Please go to www.nspcc.org.uk and do what you can.
This book touched me in ways that I never knew existed, a must read for everybody.

London Dim Sum at its best
Review of Royal China, London by
Wing
Advantages: great food, good atmosphere
Disadvantages: can be a bit of a pain to get seated
...When I first arrived in this country, I despaired of ever being able to find a decent Chinese restuarant to go to. If you've ever met anyone from Hong Kong, you'll know that eating well is as much a part of the culture as going to the pub is innately English. For the most part of my first year, whenever I felt homesick, I went to Chinatown to try and cheer myself up. Needless to say, it didn't really work.
Four years down the line and a lot more experienced when it comes to eating Chinese in this city, I can safely say there a few places I go to that serve up fare that could even be called pretty good if you compared it to places back home ( albeit at twice the price! ) One of these places is Royal China, in particular, the one on Bayswater. To put it into context, Royal China has, if I'm not mistaken, 3 branches : Baker St., St...
