Stay at St. Giles in style
Review of St Giles Hotel, London by  jonathanw3

Advantages: The cost of booking over the internet.
Disadvantages: The delays of staff response

...Hi all i have made a mistake with this review this is for the St. Giles hotel in bedford avenue London not the one that i have written the review for sorry for any inconvenience. Silly me The address is Bedford Avenue, Bloomsbury, Camden, London, WC1B 3AS My girlfriend and me stayed at the St. Giles hotel while visiting London as we were going to see the Backstreet boys, well I was dragged along. We looked everywhere over the Internet and the St. Giles was the nicest one we could find at a good price, well for London anyway. The hotel is just off Oxford Street and near Tottenham court road tube station. Therefore it is ideal for shopping and great for getting on the tube to other destinations. There is also a theatre where you can watch musicals just up the road about 100 meters away so you do not have to worry about taxi... Read review

You Can't Polish A Turd.
Review of St. Giles Hotel,, London by  TheWizardsSleeve

Advantages: location
Disadvantages: jaded, numbers of guests

...***Why The St Giles?*** Back in September 2007 my wife and I had decided we would like to go to London for the weekend and at the same time take in a show. After further investigation, we also realised that The Terracotta Army was on show at The British Museum and a Tutankhamun exhibition at the 02 Arena so we wanted a hotel that was adjacent to most things on our to do list, close access to Euston as well as having easy access to the tube. We chose the St Giles simply because it appeared on almost every google search we did, had some decent reviews, offered an all in one price for the hotel and a show and was in a fabulous location. ***Location*** They say the three most important things for a hotel is location, location, location but I feel that location is relative. After all, an establishment cannot be located... Read review

Named After A French Saint
Review of St Giles Cathedral, Edinburgh by  the_mad_cabbie

Advantages: See opinion
Disadvantages: See opinion

...~ ~ Saint Giles Cathedral, which stands on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh at the junction of the George IV Bridge and The Mound, is the main church in the Scottish capital. It is renowned as having been the mother church of the Presbyterian religion, the famous Scottish religious reformer John Knox being consecrated as its first minister shortly after the Reformation. ~ ~ It is quite literally steeped in history, and a visit here will tell the visitor much about the religious and political background of not just Edinburgh, but indeed the whole of Scotland. The Bishop of St. Andrews officially consecrated it in 1243, but its four central pillars predate this by over 100 years, and date back to around 1120. Its name relates to the “Auld Alliance” of Scotland and France against their common historical enemy, the English, St... Read review

Show Me The Booby
Review of Fresh Milk: The Secret Life of Breasts - Fiona Giles by  zoe_page

Advantages: Fascinating subject
Disadvantages: Jilted style at times

..., but it would make a lovely gift for one of those 21st Century men, if any indeed do actually exist. And finally, for women without children, it’s not as off-putting as you might expect. It’s interesting and thought-provoking but perhaps not the most practical book to buy for a pregnant colleague whose breastfeeding days are fast approaching. *-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-* Fresh Milk: The Secret Life of Breasts by Fiona Giles £8.99 rrp, £7.19 from Amazon.co.uk at the moment (though this is the American import and is a very flimsy covered version) ISBN: 0743211472... In search of haunted St. Augustine
Review of St. Augustine by  ajfoster

Advantages: Lots of ghosts, steeped with history, lizards, has more character than Orlando
Disadvantages: Why is it there is never enough time to see everything?

...Living on the American West Coast most of my life, St. Augustine was a well-kept secret from me. It never came to my attention before I received an alert for ghost books from Amazon, announcing the newly released book, OLDEST GHOSTS, by Karen Harvey. It was ghost folklore and reasonably priced, so I ordered a copy. I must have missed this detail in an American history lesson, but this was the first I recall hearing about the Oldest City. Although I've read ghost folklore books I've enjoyed more, I was positively intrigued by St. Augustine and put it on my mental list as a place to visit. Of course, as soon as my boyfriend, Russell, mentioned wanting to go to Florida for our spring vacation this year, the first thing that flashed through my mind was St. Augustine. He had been thinking of Orlando, but I wasn't going to be so close... Read review

A SUITABLE RESTING PLACE FOR St ALBAN
Review of St Albans Cathedral, England by  RICHADA

Advantages: Antiquity, Architecture, Free Entry, Guides, History.
Disadvantages: None Found

...It was one of those rare days that we "happened upon" St Albans and it's Cathedral. Having half a day to kill whilst the car was being serviced in Chiswick, West London, although our loan car, being electrically assisted, was, for now at least, exempt from the Central London Congestion Charge, we made the positive decision to leave "The Smoke" and search out somewhere a touch less claustrophobic. THE ROMAN "CITY" OF ST ALBANS Around twenty miles to the north of London is the delightful old town of St Albans, many years ago I had enjoyed a day out here, Mrs R in her seven years in England had never had the pleasure - but was not, for whatever reason over-excited at the prospect! Asking me 'what was there to see', my first and only real answer was the Cathedral. However, having had a very early start that morning, my thoughts... Read review

St Anton
Review of St Anton am Arlberg by  Dawson

Advantages: Lifts, Snow, Cartouche, Friendly, Hotel Rendlhof
Disadvantages: Piste grooming, wet lower down at Easter, weather on St Anotn, prices.

...No no, not a Saint at all. Its a ski resort in Austria, one of the most famous there. St Anton is in the Alps, about 90 minutes by road from Innsbruck, or 150 minutes from Zurich. It offers 260 kilometres of piste, 34 easy runs, 70 intermediate, and 30 advanced. These runs are spread across 4 main areas : St. Anton, The Rendl, Zurs and Lech, and are serviced by 81 lifts. St Anton and the Rendl are right next to the main town of St Anton Am Arlberg, on opposite sides of the valley, and a short, relatively cheap bus ride away over the Arlberg Pass are Lech and Zurs, which are connected by lifts as well as the bus. St Anton (4,278 - 8,649 feet) The St Anton ski area is the most easily accessible from the town, from one end by the Nassareinbahn onto the Gampen area, and by the Galzigbahn to the Galzig area. Gampen and Galzig togther... Read review

St. Paul's: "The Little Chapel That Stood"
Review of St Paul´s Chapel, New York by  BawBaw

Advantages: Inspiration for humanitarian conduct
Disadvantages: The ongoing pain of loss

...•••Introduction••• The manmade landscape of Lower Manhattan consists of a wondrously eclectic assemblage of intriguing structures. In the midst of this landscape, a carefully roving eye will detect an unnatural hole--unnatural, in that it is devoid of a skyline. That hole, of course, is the space where the World Trade Center once stood and where a kind of frenzied, reverent construction process is now the order of the day. Just a few hundred yards away--indeed, right across the street--is another Manhattan anomaly, St. Paul's Chapel. As one of the few remaining colonial structures in Lower Manhattan, it is the area's oldest continuously used public building, not to mention its only remaining colonial church, St. Paul's is an exceedingly rare reminder that this corner of Manhattan Island was once...
