One Hel(ier) of a drink!

Advantages: Tastes crisp and refreshing
Disadvantages: none

...One of my favourite alcoholic beverages of recent times is the mighty fine pear cider. I have become rather attached to the stuff and though used to love my red wine that seems to have taken a back seat. I have tried a few different pear ciders since discovering how tasty and refreshing it is and along with Kopperberg (see seperate review) this is one of my favourites. So all pear ciders taste the same, right? Erm, no. And here's my opinion on this wonderful tipple.. Price and packaging~ St. Helier Pear Cider comes in 3 different sized bottles (to my knowledge): *275 ml *500ml *1 litre The prices all vary depending on where you shop, but at my local supermarket they are 49p (275ml); £1.63 (500ml) and £2 (1 litre) respectively. The design of the bottle is nothing overly fancy (and differs in colour from the one above) but is enough...

Review of St Heliers Pear Cider

Saint Helier - patron saint of pears?

Advantages: Fantastic taste - ideal for summer, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Too easy to drink!

...?) I have only seen this in a few pubs, mostly independents, and have seen no advertising. Which is a shame really as I am sure the current trend for pear cider would boost their sales quite a bit as more people become aware of it. Overall, if you have a sweet tooth when it comes to booze, St Helier will soon be top of your shopping list! (I am sure that Jersey's favourite son, Sergeant Jim Bergerac would be a fan, er, if he wasn't a recovering alcoholic that is)....

A House by the Sea.

Advantages: Good, friendly and comfortable hotel.
Disadvantages: Lack of lift and noisy air-con.

...far outway the bad ones though. My niggles include the placement of the tv, the extremely noisy air-con unit next door and the lack of info about where to leave our key when checking out. The good points are numerous, as you would have read earlier. I particularly enjoyed sitting outside the hotel after breakfast watching the sea come in and the people walk by. The Maison Chaussey is an ideal location for a coffee and to people watch. So...a good, friendly and comfortable guest house in a top location by the sea front! That will be a highly recommended from me then..... ~~~HOTEL DETAILS. Maison Chaussey Havre Des Pas, St Helier Jersey, JE2 4UL Telephone: 01534 723836 http://www.a1tourism.com/uk/maison1.html...

The Doll's House Restaurant, St Andrews

Advantages: great selection of food, good cheaper options, nice ambience
Disadvantages: feeling rushed, rubbish veg selection

...The Doll' House Restaurant in St Andrews is a very popular restaurant among tourists, locals, students, and St Andrews very cosmopolitan transient community. It is owned by Simon Littlejohn (of Littlejohn's restaurants) and Alex Knight, who I think have owned it for about 13 years together. The Doll's House Restaurant is the flagship restaurant of the group 'House Restaurants' - which also include - The Grill House (St Andrews), The Glasshouse (St Andrews) and The Riverhouse (Stirling). All of these restaurants have their own style, ambience, and each focuses on a particular genre of food. The Doll's House is a bistro style restaurant which claims it focuses on Scottish cuisine with a French twist - which I think in the majority is true - but their Hungarian Goulash, and the Cantonese monkfish stirfry which I saw on the menu...

Comfy and clean, did the job well!

Advantages: Comfy and clean hotel, good staff
Disadvantages: A little tricky to find due to 1 way road system

...We got this hotel as part of a "package" with Condor Ferries (called CondorBreaks). We chose The Savoy as it had gym and pool facilities, it was located in St Helier, and therefore central to the rest of the island (the islands roads were constructed to run from St Helier, so that the army, based in Elizabeth Castle there, could easy protect the rest of the island), and it was reasonably priced. ~~~LOCATION~~~ The hotel was located barely 5 minutes drive from St Helier ferry terminals (and also the car hire places, etc), although it was a little tricky to find with the whole town being a seemingly unending series of one way streets! Luckily, we were given a map by the ferry company which showed which way the roads went! It's location on Rouge Bouillon does not sound appealing at first: Rouge Bouillon is apparently the "ring...

The Golden Apple

Advantages: 4 star hotel with choice of excellent dining
Disadvantages: No pool, no parking, no garden

...In need of a short break we decided to visit Jersey and chose the Pomme D'or, a 4 star hotel in St Helier. It overlooks Liberation Square and a yacht marina, that way we had the coast, museums, shops and plenty of places to eat without having to travel far, as we had been told driving in Jersey could be challenging due to the very narrow roads. All in all we were very pleased with our choice, and the great thing was the weather was brilliant even in October! Arrival ******* A taxi was booked and waiting for us at the airport, and treated us to the scenic route as there had been a major accident blocking the main road. We pulled up at the hotel about 30 minutes later, and before we could get out, our cases were being taken into the hotel, and we were lead to the reception, where, very efficiently the check in took place, our credit...

Great hotel, great value for money!

Advantages: Great staff, quick and efficient service, beautiful gardens, relaxing pool area
Disadvantages: Hotel owns a couple dogs (for people that are not dog-lovers)

... Summary The Westhill Hotel in St Helier, Jersey is a very nice three-star hotel. The hotel itself is a little dated in some parts (in no way that would detract from your holiday though) but the beauty and convenience of the outdoor area and the friendly and very helpful staff more than make up for it. Detail It's very hard to find someone dissatisfied with their stay at the Westhill. Many people say that you get what you pay for, but in the case of the Westhill, that is untrue. You get more than what you pay for. The hotel itself is located in the rural outskirts of St Helier (about half an hours walk away from the centre). I would recommend walking to and from the hotel but as the walk to St Helier is downhill, the walk back to the hotel is uphill. Although, that said, if you do not own a car or you have not...

* The Bunny House *

Advantages: Funny , Plot
Disadvantages: May Send Out Wrong Message To Young Girls!

...Recently I have been swapping DVDs with my friend ; I've been borrowing her 'up-to-date' movies and she's been watching my 'rom-coms'. One of the DVDs which I borrowed from my friend was a film called ' The House Bunny'. The House Bunny is an American romantic comedy film released in the United Kingdom on 10th October 2008. This film stars Anna Faris , (who's previous films include , Just Friends and My Super Ex Girlfriend). Running time of the movie is ninety seven minutes (seven minutes over one hour and a half). Shelley (Faris) is a playboy playmate living a luxury life in the playboy mansion. Soon after her twenty seventh birthday , she is told that she is now too old to be a playboy bunny and so it 'thrown out' of the playboy house. Feeling upset and lonely , she tries hard to fit in with other girl groups , although soon...

ST Tropez Autobronzant

Advantages: Nice even colour, can see where it has been applied already
Disadvantages: Messy and expensive

...*Introduction* The St Tropez autobronzant is a thick lotion which you apply on your face and body, and then leave to absorb for 4 hours before washing off to reveal your tan. It promises to be 'non-greasy' and 'quick drying' with a 'relaxing aromatic scent'. It comes in one shade only, but you can reapply two nights in a row to deepen the tan. I have really pale skin that doesn't tan at all naturally, so I have to be careful what fake tan I use as I can be left with orange coloured skin! *Packaging and Price* The packaging is quite simple and whereas most fake tanning products come in a brown or orange bottle, it is distinctive as it comes in a white bottle with black writing. When buying, look carefully at the bottle to check you have the right product though as the St Tropez body polish comes in a very similar bottle...

Meet me in St Louis

Advantages: Magnificent skyline. Lots to do and see. Wonderful music heritage.
Disadvantages: A number of attractions not wheelchair accessible

...or The Gateway to the West as it is seen as the dividing mark of East and West America. The Gateway Arch, St Louis? most known landmark, commemorates that very idea. ~~Music~~ Anyone who has read any of my previous reviews of the USA will know that our trip was music based. St Louis has a long-standing music heritage. The seven month long 1904 St Louis World Fair brought ragtime into the forefront of world music. Classic such as ?Meet me in St Louis, Louis? and Joplin?s ?The Entertainer? were composed especially for the fair. Scott Joplin lived and composed in a house in Delmar Boulevard, St Louis from 1901 ? 6. The house is now open as a museum to Joplin - more of this in a separate review. Well worth a visit ? plan for about 1 hour. Today, St Louis is renowned for its Blues Music with live music played daily in various restaurants and clubs...
