Bettacare-Auto Close Stair Gates
Review of Bettacare Auto Close Stair Gate Safety Gate by
A1973
Advantages: 3 sizes, auto-closing
Disadvantages: none
...For those of you who already have little children in the house, you will agree that safety in the home is paramount. Even if you have eyes in the back of your head, in your arms and legs and in every single room in the house, your child will still manage to wonder off undetected. It's great when they start to move, at first they progress slowly but it's only a matter of days before then can go from 0 -100 in the blink of an eye.
So when our little one began to move we needed to start looking at stair gates, before he dive bombed down the stairs. At this point to me a stair gate was a stair gate, a gate that you fix across your stairs or to the entrance of a room to prevent children having accidents, or escaping from rooms. So how long would it take to purchase two gates! How wrong was I? There are millions (well not literally...

Before buying a stair gate, read this op
Review of Mamas & Papas Super Pressure Fit Safety Gate by
GraingerN
Advantages: no. 1 safety, difficult operating mechanism for children to use
Disadvantages: none that I can think of
...When I moved into my new home the only thing I was unsure of was the fact it had split level bedrooms, the master being downstairs and the smaller upstairs. Considering there was just no way I could fit a double bed in the upstairs room after weighing up all options and what ifs to do with my daughter being upstairs with a gate fixed or downstairs and near to the front door and easy walk through access to the rest of the house including kitchen! I decided I had no option but to hunt around for a top of the range safety gate that wouldn't let me down so that I could rest at night knowing she was safe upstairs.
I did at first buy an extending gate as the opening to the top of my stairs is wider than average as it has a large step at the top which you have to turn right off of to step onto the landing but I didn't feel at all...

You Can Forget The Stairs Now Baby !
Review of Lindam Easy Fit Plus Gate by
jo68
Advantages: Easy to fit, good price, and very safe.
Disadvantages: Only fits openings between 750 mm and 820 mm.
...Imagine the scene. I'm washing up and my 20-month old little girl is playing happily with her toys. I suddenly realise that it has gone very quiet and go to check on her. She's gone ! I see that the hall door is open and think that she must be in there. She's not in the hall. She's halfway up the stairs and beams down at me and says " Hiya ! " to me. " Hiya ! " I say back, at the same time wondering how on earth she has suddenly become able to open the door and climb up the stairs.
Needless to say, my thoughts turned immediately to ways of preventing this happening again, especially since when her sister comes home from school, she will now be following her upstairs at every opportunity !
Solution ? Obviously, it has to be a safety gate. I got out my trusty Argos catalogue and looked at what they had to offer. There were 6...

screw less gate
Review of Lindam Easy Fit Plus Gate by
mamamia411
Advantages: no screwing involved
Disadvantages: none
...I'm live in a strange property and the door frames are smaller than average, so I found myself in quite a dilemma when I needed to choose a security gate to keep babs out of the kitchen and falling down stairs. I needed a gate that was extra special as I knew that I would have to fit it between two walls. Thus, I needed a gate that was extend able.
Then the second and even third problem hit me. I'm hopeless at DIY, and the walls are that solid, nothing will go through.
I was flicking through an Argos book, and then I saw the answer to my problem. A gate that needs no screws. I'd been saved.
So, for an extremely reasonable £19.99 I bought a gate, and within about 5 minutes of arriving home, it was fitted. For those who like things permanently fixed there was even the walls cups and screws to attach on the wall.
So I had my...

Great gate - does the job!
Review of Lindam Alarmed Two Way Safety Gate by
Fanta7
Advantages: Nice, sturdy, gate, no drilling required
Disadvantages: None
...I bought two Lindam Alarmed Safety gates from Boots online at £24.99. Check their site regularly as they often have offers for free delivery or extra Advantage card points on baby items.
The gates arrived well packaged and with easy to follow instructions.
FIXING IT TO THE WALL
These gates can be fixed to the wall by adjusting the four pressure "bars" they come with. Lindam's advice - for extra safety - is to secure the two top pressure points to the wall by using screws (included in the package). Personally I have only used these screws for the gate at the top of the stairs for extra safety as, once fitted, the gate is pretty sturdy. I pushed it with all my strength and the gate didn't move an inch!
UNLOCKING IT/TWO WAY GATE
The gate is white and comes with a blue handle. To open it, you need to press a button...

Don't look under the stairs!
Review of The People Under The Stairs DVD by
kepler3001
Advantages: Good standard of acting, fast pace, plenty of action
Disadvantages: Some dodgy special effects, poor use of lighting
...finds a young girl called Alice, the daughter of the household who has never been outside of the house. She is a sad, abused child who knows no reality beyond the four walls of what she calls home. Then there’s the reality that’s going on behind the walls and under the stairs. Fool finds himself caught up in a game of cat and mouse with the deranged landlords. At every turn his attempts at escape are thwarted by the wicked duo. With the landlords getting closer and closer to catching him Fool desperately tries to escape because if he’s caught there’s no knowing what might happen.
‘The people under the stairs’ is at its heart an urban style fairy tale. Our brave hero, Fool must stand up to the heinous landlords (who are oppressing the ‘villagers’ in the ghetto), save the tormented princess Alice (who’s being tortured by the evil step...

Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs
Review of Narrow Stairs - Death Cab For Cutie by
technosplat
Advantages: Confidence pushing a fantastic band even further
Disadvantages: Post-it notes required to remind you to do anything else but listen to it
...Like all great pieces of art, on first listening Narrow Stairs makes you stop and take notice. Thirty seconds in and I'm relieved to hear that Death Cab have not resorted to pop riffs or drum patterns to push their way into the chart, rather continuing to create the brilliant alternative music that we love them for.
The stand-out track has to be the rhythmic and rather brave "I Will Possess Your Heart". An inspired yet simple bassline drives the track through over 8 minutes of sheer sonic joy, including the first four and a half minutes which have no more than bass, drums and piano. It works beautifully.
There are a couple of tracks (No Sunlight, Long Division) which definitely get you moving and seem perfect for alternative par-tays. My favourite track of the moment has to be "Your New Twin Sized Bed" - an addictive piece...

The people under the stairs
Review of The People Under The Stairs DVD by
blissman70
Advantages: great comedy and a bit of horror
Disadvantages: none
...ugly head and forming what can only be described as a fantastic plot for a movie….and this movie emphasises the fact brilliantly and almost tastefully.
Brandon Adams does a fantastic job as 'Fool', the young lovable character who turns to robbery to help his family. This frightened little boy has to handle every evil thing thrown at him, and what a job he does. His scenes with the Robeson's mad are brilliant but may be upsetting for dog lovers (although no animals were hurt during this filming)
The Robeson's are brilliant characters, coming across as a god loving couple who wouldn't harm a fly. Everett McGill, who plays 'dad' Robeson, acts the part to perfection as the gun toting, sadistic god loving weirdo.
The Robeson's really bring the saying 'see no evil.. hear no evil.. Speak no evil' to life as The people under the stairs...

no more bouncing babies!!!!!!!
Review of Lindam Easy Fit Plus Gate by
chezzal1
Advantages: keeps little ones safe with stairs about
Disadvantages: none
...As all parents know that when your little one can start to crawl, they can go from snail speed to racing speed in no time at all, so it then comes to the time of thinking about fixing those stair gates to the stairs because the last thing you want is your precious little one hurting themselves on the stairs. (Take it from me, my little one followed my cats down the stairs, top to bottom!!! thankfully he was ok, just abit tearfull)
So that was it, my husband, child and myself into the car, and to mothercare we went..... we looked at a number of gates, and although safety was the utmost importance I was still not really prepared to spend £60.00 on a gate, as some of the gates were priced at. We couldn't find any we were completely happy with so then headed of to Toysrus, and eventually we chose the Lindam easy fit plus gate. This came...

Bare Esentuals BareMinerals Golden Gate Blush
Review of Bare Escentuals Blush Golden Gate by
lilyellowfish
Advantages: Smooth, even and easy application, lasts, gentle to skin
Disadvantages: Expensive
....
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Golden Gate Blush
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Golden Gate is one of BareMinerals most popular blushes, it creates a radiant rose colour on your cheeks with a hint of sunkissed glow. It is made from 100% pure minerals and looks and feels natural on your skin. Golden Gate has complexion boosters that infuse colour into your skin making it look like it's coming from within.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Use & Effects
~~~~~~~~~~~
It is recommended that you use Bare Escentuals Full Coverage Kabuki Brush or Bare Escentuals Taper Blush Brush when applying Golden Gate to your skin. I personally use the Taper Blush Brush. I would actually agree with the recommendation, as I do find it makes a real difference and maximises the effect on your skin. After you have applied your foundation, and I would really recommend using BareMinerals SPF Foundation, it is the same...
