Affordable HD LCD TV
Review of Wharfedale LCD26HD by
Hayley9825
Advantages: cheap, good quality picture,
Disadvantages: non as of yet
...no need to get out of bed to turn it off if you decide to have one of these in your bedroom.
For all you people that have no knowledge on the new technology these are some questions you may ask.
~~~Will I need a new Aerial?~~~
Well I can pick up the quality of picture pretty good from my anaglog aerial, some people may need to upgrade on a digital aerial if this a poor signal strength. If you have the intergrated freeview you will have to upgrade to pick up the digital signal, you may be able to pick up some channels from your analog but not all.
~~~So what is LCD and what does it stand for?~~~
LCD stand for liquid crystal display, A digital display that uses liquid crystal cells that change reflectivity in an applied electric field.
~~~What is HD and what does it stand for?~~~
HD is the new standard of television viewing. HD...
Save some space with this stylish 15" LCD TV!!
Review of Mikomi 15 LCD 250 by
yours_ilze
Advantages: Stylish, Light, Cheap, Good Size, Quality Sound & Vision
Disadvantages: Not suitable for use as a PC monitor
...the cheapest LCD Tv, but got some money to spend in store in return :)
The box with TV was quite light - about 7kg and it had a plastic handle that made it quite easy to carry it.
As I came home, I have opened the box and placed my TV onto my study table! It fit there quite well as it is so slim and small in comparison to standard size tvs. The actual size of it including stand is: (H)39, (W)37.8 and (D)17cm with 15" or 38cm visible screen size. In terms of width - it is as wide as my laptop so I placed it just behind my laptop and when I need to watch it, I just close the lid of my lap top :) so simple.
In terms of installation... its kind of easy - all I had to do - plug in power cable at the back of TV, plug in the SCART socket from my Homechoice Box and Its all set! :)
I did not use an instruction book yet as I do not have a TV cable...
BUSH 27" WIDESCREEN LCD TV
Review of Bush LCD27TV005 by
kismet
Advantages: nice flat screen, sharp clear picture
Disadvantages: can the cat knock it over? not hd ready?
...this end of line 27" widescreen lcd flat television and just had to buy it. The only trouble was, that being end of line meant that you could not order it for delivery, so I did a search of all my local stores until I found one and we reserved it for collection the next day.
My husband came home with the tv, we unpacked it and installed it so easily, it was a dream.
The Techinical description of this television in the Argos catalogue is Bush LCD27TV005 27in Widescreen LCD TV.
The Argos order number is: 529/2150 and we paid £399.99. From what I have read online, this television was retailing at around £600 originially, but at the moment, all of the LCD televisions seem to be 26 or 30/32 inches, so it looks like they are phasing out the 27" ones.
The television is silver in colour and the speakers are each end of the television...
Venturing into the world of budget LCD televisions
Review of Bush LCD 26 TV 016 HD by
Mainflava
Advantages: Easy to tune; clear, high quality picture, good sound
Disadvantages: None that I can see so far
....
Screen size......
Having looked at a number of flat panel TVs with screen sizes ranging from 15 to 32 inches, I decided to upgrade my normal screen size from 15 inches to 26 inches in order to provide that home cinema feel in a relatively small room. While large screens were also appealing, a combination of a tight budget (see above) and a small room with which the set would be located, forced my hand into the sub 32 inch category.
Bush LCD 26 inch TV
Eventually, after much searching, I stumbled across the above televison on offer for a shade over £300 including delivery - well inside my projected budget. On receipt of the television, I was suprised at just how light it was; weighing in at less than 17 kg meant that should I need to wall mount the unit, I could get away with much cheaper brackets and, I could even contemplate the tilt...
Philips 30" LCD Television
Review of Philips 170B2M LCD Televisions by
lona
Advantages: Brilliant picture and outstanding appearance
Disadvantages: No assurance on how long it will last
...asked how long an LCD screen could be expected to last, the customer service person said it was unknown as they are just newly out on the market.
As Philips themselves do not know the expectancy of this model I have decided not to accept a replacement and have gone for a convential widescreen telelvision until the LCD models are more fully tested.
This is only my personal view on this particular model and although I could have been just unlucky I would advise anyone who might be thinking of buying this Philips 30" LCD to ask as many questions regarding their durability as I don't think anyone knows and time will tell as to how they will stand up to regular use.
I will be sorry to see it go as I was so impressed with the quality of the picture but at the end of the day, I did not want to have a television that had...
A cool 32 inch Samsung LCD TV
Review of Samsung LE32R74BDX 32" HD Ready LCD TV by
ciaoauthor
Advantages: Fantastic picture quality, nice sound, ease of use and a good looking TV
Disadvantages: One HDMI
...If quality and style is what you are looking for then the Samsung LE32R74BDX 32" HD is the TV for you. This screen is one of the better looking on the market and looks great both on the side with the supplied stand or mounted on the wall (wall mount not supplied). The picture quality is phenomenal. The TV has DNIe (Digital Natural Image engine) which helps to 'step up' the inputted source. This means a great quality pictures even from my DVD player connected through one of the two scart sockets and from the built in freeview receiver. This negates the need to update a DVD player for one with a HDMI connection. The screen produces up to 12.8 billion colours and has a contrast ratio of 5000:1 giving great definition between light and dark. In fact the two main disadvantages with LCD TV's have been solved with this screen...
LaCie LCD120 is in good company
Review of LaCie LCD120 by
i0lamina
Advantages: Brilliant color, and sharpness suitable for DTP and graphics use.
Disadvantages: It takes time to set the color temperature correctly, does not feature professional color profiles.
...I recently purchased this monitor, basing my decision only on the recomendation from a colleague. This screen now stands confidently right alongside a Sony P-234 professional grade widescreen monitor which is regarded as a high end screen and which cost me almost twice as much as the LaCie LCD120.
Both the Sony and the LaCie share the same response times although the Sony has a higher native resolution at 1920 x 1200 which manages to accomodate 1080 HDTV without a problem, this is not the case with the LaCie monitor.
This said however, in terms of the contrast, the accuracy and realism of the Color, which is a close match to the hues displayed by the Sony (which displays industry standard color profiles such as sRGB), and the sharpness (a dot pitch of 0.255mm) , this monitor is very satisfying indeed and and is suitablle for DTP...
Let's sing the praises of Samsung LCD TV
Review of Samsung LE32R51BD 32" LCD TV by
mikefnw75
Advantages: Saves space, good picture, built in freeview
Disadvantages: HD broadcasts not out yet, need a HD ready DVD player too
...parent and they'll be in the know! It's CBeebies which provides children's television from 6 a.m till 7 p.m. Now I know it's not the same as watching that freaky doll image that used to keep us entertained as a child ( I'm sure she used to change expression) but it is a life saver for parents. I try to restrict my childs intake but when you are making dinner and you have 2 under 3 year olds getting up to mischieve, CBeebies is a winner. Apart from that Freeview has Sky Sports News which I have on when I'm given a moment of peace. It's a good added bonus freeview and as it is inbuilt you don't need to have any extra boxes.
*** Keeping up Appearances ***
This tv comes with its own stand and it fits snugly on our mantelpiece at home. However you can purchase a wall mount for about an extra £100. It is surprisingly heavy despite its...
Jenoptik JD C 2.1 Lcd
Review of JENOPTIK JENDIGITAL JD C 2.1 LCD by
callancool
Advantages: good clear photos easy to use reasonable battery life
Disadvantages: No video out steady hand needed
.... For example, the JD 1.3 bosts a tft screen and seels for about £70, whilst it's almtost identical twin the JD2.1 comes in at around £90-£100. It's the 2.1 which we'll be reviewing here, and as you can guess the 2.1 stands for the image sensor size, of 2.1 megapixels. However as a name this is a little misleading, as the camera will actually take pictures at 3.0 megapixels, although this setting is interpolated and as a result quality suffers.
So how does the camera rate. Well first impressions as you take it out of the wrap are of a lightweight plastic cased camera. However, insert the batteries and it feels quite solid, unlike some cheaper cameras. The box tells us it has a Cmos sensor which usually realates to poorer image quality than those with Ccd's. However Cmos's are lighter on battery load, and thankfully this camera seems to last well...
