...Over the last couple of years on Ciao, I have been studying my Standard Grades. So when randomly searching for catergories I was so glad Ciao added this. So when I disappeared for a while, this is what I would be doing. For all you English, Welsh, Irish and unknowing Scot's of the Scottish education system, this is for you. What Is A Standard Grade? The Scottish education system is quite bit different to others in the UK. It is basically the GCSE of Scotland. It is studied by 3rd and 4th years at High School with the ages from 14-16. They are usually 2 year course but I have seen them being condensed into one year course, then allowing an extra year for Higher (AS Level.) ...As a student in Scotland at High School, and I study different courses and gain different qualifications to the UK. In Scotland you can get Standard Grades, Intermediates, Highers and Advanced Highers. I'm not very a customed to other education systems in the UK, but I do know that a SG is equivelent to a GCSE and a Higher to a AS-Level. Last year I studied my Standard Grades, and found that DooYoo or any other site had a review about any of the materials outside of the classroom, used to revise for exams and tests. Standard Grade English is just one of the many courses you or your child could take at third or fourth year if you are in Scotland. ...A must have for any flautist approaching their grade 8 examinations! I have been playing the flute for four years, and every time that it has come around to choosing exam pieces, I found it increasingly difficult to be able to select pieces that I liked, without having to buy several books. My first problem was that I had a newly qualified teacher, who was young and hadn't heard of many of the pieces that were offered on the ABRSM list, never mind played them. Therefore, she had no idea what to expect from them, and nor did I. Each time it came to selecting exam pieces, off I would go to my local music store. There I would sit for hours, looking through all of the books, desperately trying to find something that looked quite simple! This means that not only is the Evening Standard reader now barraged with endless "celebrity" tittle tattle and diet plans, but that any attempt at reflecting the views of Londoners is out of the window. For example, Max Hastings was always an opponent of Ken Livingstone, but granted him fair coverage as Mayor. I personally had not heard of trading standards and was so afraid of it being complicated and worried that I would have hassles with solicitors, that I would always try my own methods of solving a purchase problem that is not at all satisfactory. However I assumed they might have an online service, which I found through google, which made the issue a little less daunting to deal with. The first time Courts had ripped me off. I grew them for show as well as pleasure and you could find a fuschia in every nook and cranny of my garden and greenhouse. Since my wife became housebound i just grow a few for pleasure because i have not enough time to justify their beauty. Growing a standard fuschia is an easy task for any gardener with a greenhouse or conservatory. For your first time attempt i would suggest `snowcap`. This is a semi double size flower with red petals and white sepals, or, perhaps `display` which is a single flower almost entirely pink. You can grow a quarter standard in one season but really they are better grown during the first season to flower the second. ...Ok, been playing lead guitar very on and off for many years. To be honest, I have always been more of an acoustic player, but decided last year to take the plunge and get myself an electric. Now what a minefield this can be. Prices vary dramatically, and as much as I would appreciate a new Gibson Les Paul Special edition, it was somewhat out of my price range. Decided on the tele for a variety of reasons, looks, sound, history. The decision was then whether to get the cheap Squier tele (about 200 quid), the mexican standard tele (I bought this for 350), or one of the many standard USA teles (anywhere from 500 quid up).
