Life Through A Lens
Advantages: Friendly Atmosphere
Disadvantages: Not A Tourist Destination
...I am sure very few people will have heard of this place let alone have been to it. Those amongst us who are fans of the game of football may have come across the name from previous encounters with Arsenal and from the Fifa 2002 World Cup. However, not only is it famed for its football club but it provides the region with numerous activities for those passionate Frenchmen who have grown up here. To me Lens is a town from which my background is held in part. My mother was born in its vicinity and it remains the home of my grandparents; thus it holds a magic which is close to my heart. I have no doubt left you dear reader wondering where this review is heading, well... it is about time that we got on with the show...
Location and Transport Links (the boring stuff)
Lens is located in the North of France, the Pas-de-Calais region...

Stops the scratches
Advantages: Protects your lens
Disadvantages: easy to lose
...A lens cap is important piece equipment if you want to keep your lens in good repair with no scratches or dirt or grime encrusted on it.
The Cannon E77MM lens cap fits my husband's cannon 17-55 ultrasonic zoom lens on his cannon digi camera. .
This lens cap came as standard on my husbands zoom lens when he bought it but can be bought separately. This 77mm lens cap cover will cost £5.99p from http://www.askdirect.co.uk/uview?call=ask.productBrowse&id=469&topcatid=19& make=Canon. If you go into a good camera shop they will probably have them in stock or be able to order one for you.
You do not have to have a cannon camera lens for this lens cap this lens cap cover will fit other makes of lens too, as long as they are 77mm diameter. They do not need to be ultrasonic lens either.
This lens cap came as standard on my husbands zoom...

Compact 'standard' lens - a step up from 18-55mm
Advantages: compact; lightweight; sharp
Disadvantages: small zoom range; designed for 35mm film; no image stabilisation
...This lens is widely available from many sources, both new and secondhand. It is compact and light in weight and offers a significantly wider zoom range than the 28-55mm lens supplied as 'standard' on many Canon digital SLR cameras.
Used on most Canon digital cameras, the effective focal lengths become 1.6x bigger (as the sensor is APS- sized, not 35mm sized), making it a 45 - 170mm zoom.
Hardly wide-angle, but, at the lower end, it is roughly the same as the 50mm lens that all 35mm cameras used to be fitted with as standard. With digital cameras, the argument goes, you can 'stitch' several shots together to create a panorama and so overcome the lack of a wider angle lens. That's only true to a limited extent - but TRUE wide-angle lenses need a second mortgage at present!
With focal lengths between 80 to 120mm being regarded as...

Scottish Qualifications Authorities Scotland
---------------------------------------------------------------
I have been planning on writing a reveiw on the Scottish Qualifications Authorities Scotland course for a while now and is really something I believe that may be important for parents or the younger generations on this site because if you ever decided to pack away your things and have it away to Scotland with the family to stay and live there, then your child's education is the most important thing...
Some of you may already know about the Standard Grade course, but for those of you who may not which will include DooYooer's from England, Ireland and Wales, then hopefully this reveiw will give you the confidence that you can send your child to a high school...

Canon Lens
Advantages: Lightweight
Disadvantages: None
...This is a good quality lens that offers good value for money. It's a great lens for any canon enthusiast and incorporates plenty of features that I would highly recommend. This really is a wonderful piece of kit that should go well with many accessories because it really looks good. After using this product for a few months I have not so far come up against any reliability issues but only time will tell. I therefore would recommend the product. However, always think carefully as to whether you actually really need something before you buy it. We buy so many things nowadays that we don't really need.

The Students Standard Grade Story
Advantages: Excellent for future, Great information, Good step up
Disadvantages: Compulsory for 14-16 year olds
...Over the last couple of years on Ciao, I have been studying my Standard Grades. So when randomly searching for catergories I was so glad Ciao added this. So when I disappeared for a while, this is what I would be doing. For all you English, Welsh, Irish and unknowing Scot's of the Scottish education system, this is for you.
What Is A Standard Grade?
The Scottish education system is quite bit different to others in the UK. It is basically the GCSE of Scotland. It is studied by 3rd and 4th years at High School with the ages from 14-16. They are usually 2 year course but I have seen them being condensed into one year course, then allowing an extra year for Higher (AS Level.) Now my best friend is from Yorkshire, so she was able to inform me about GSCE's and AS Levels which is handy. So it is the first certificated level of entry...

Fuschia standards
Advantages: Develops good feeling of self achievment
Disadvantages: Soon becomes a habit
...FUSCHIA STANDARDS
Up until 2 years ago every minute of my life was taken up by fuschias. I grew them for
show as well as pleasure and you could find a fuschia in every nook and cranny of my
garden and greenhouse. Since my wife became housebound i just grow a few for
pleasure because i have not enough time to justify their beauty.
Growing a standard fuschia is an easy task for any gardener with a greenhouse or
conservatory. For your first time attempt i would suggest `snowcap`. This is a semi
double size flower with red petals and white sepals, or, perhaps `display` which is a
single flower almost entirely pink.
You can grow a quarter standard in one season but really they are better grown during
the first season to flower the second.
Just for interest a quarter standard is between 10 and 18" inches high not counting...

A lens for sport and wildlife
Advantages: Excellent over all range
Disadvantages: Weight and possibly cost
...of the lens is changed.
Also useful is the full manual focus ring that is
located at the rear of the lens. There is the ultra
quiet hypersonic motor for Auto focus.
Both these rings are coated with non slip rubber.
The clarity of image over the whole range of the
lens has to be seen. I have found no trace of
distortion or aberration at any zoom. This I
understand is because of the glass used and the special coating of same.
Tripod mount is magnesium to keep weight down.
Comes with its own carry case, hand straps and
manual.
The lens is made of black non reflective metal
and has a black plastic lens hood with bayonet
fastening.
Recently I moved to digital photography from
standard film. I found that I was reaching
the limits of what I could do with my standard
cameras. I like to photograph nature, Birds...

Cheap lens = cheap photos!
Advantages: Worst lens for a professional but good to start out with; cheap; easy to learn with;
Disadvantages: Worst lens for a pro, frontal element rotates,
...Must make this clear that it is the older version of 18-55mm before they upgraded it to fit the 450D and above. So 400D and below.
When starting out in photography; most people get entry level camera body like 400D Canon EOS, this lens comes with the body to form the basic kit lens. As far as I know, you cannot purchase this lens officially with its boxes and such, you can buy one off Ebay for a reduced price of £50 or so without its boxes.
Before purchasing the entire kit, you will have to realise that the lens will have to be replaced very soon as it does not perform as well as its counterparts such as Canon 24-105mm for example. So do not expect high quality photographs from this lens.
The build quality is quite plastic-y and rather light, which made me uncomfortable with its seemingly fragility. The entire lens...

Review of Canon EF-S zoom lens - 18 mm - 55 mm F/3.5-5.6

Nearly one 'L' of a lens
Advantages: Useful range. Fast f/2.8 aperture. Great IS. Superb image quality.
Disadvantages: Lens hood costs extra!
...Having owned and used a Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM zoom lens for around 15 months, I feel that I have some well balanced experience with it.
Being an EF-S lens (the 'S' standing for 'Short' back-focus), it is designed for use ONLY with cameras having APS-C size sensors. Do not attempt to use one on a full-frame DSLR or 35mm SLR camera. Firstly, such lenses have a reduced image circle which will produce severe vignetting on large sensor cameras and secondly, the mount of the rear lens element could be struck by the camera's mirror, causing serious damage.
On a Canon APS-C size DSLR, this 3.2x zoom provides a useful range of focal lengths from 27.2mm to 88mm with a maximum aperture of f/2.8 which is consistent throughout the zoom range. This fast aperture makes the lens eminently suitable for low-light work, particularly as it...
