...The Evening Standard is London's Newspaper. The title is now owned by Associated Media who also own the Daily Mail and the Metro. Previously edited by Max Hastings who managed to keep the paper reasonly londoncentric and made an attempt at balance, the paper is now edited by Veronica Wadley, an erstwile crony of Paul Dacre. This means that not only is the Evening Standard reader now barraged with endless "celebrity" tittle tattle and diet plans, but that any attempt at reflecting the views of Londoners is out of the window. For example, Max Hastings was always an opponent of Ken Livingstone, but granted him fair coverage as Mayor. I personally had not heard of trading standards and was so afraid of it being complicated and worried that I would have hassles with solicitors, that I would always try my own methods of solving a purchase problem that is not at all satisfactory. So when I disappeared for a while, this is what I would be doing. For all you English, Welsh, Irish and unknowing Scot's of the Scottish education system, this is for you. What Is A Standard Grade? The Scottish education system is quite bit different to others in the UK. It is basically the GCSE of Scotland. It is studied by 3rd and 4th years at High School with the ages from 14-16. They are usually 2 year course but I have seen them being condensed into one year course, then allowing an extra year for Higher (AS Level.) I grew them for show as well as pleasure and you could find a fuschia in every nook and cranny of my garden and greenhouse. Since my wife became housebound i just grow a few for pleasure because i have not enough time to justify their beauty. Growing a standard fuschia is an easy task for any gardener with a greenhouse or conservatory. For your first time attempt i would suggest `snowcap`. This is a semi double size flower with red petals and white sepals, or, perhaps `display` which is a single flower almost entirely pink. You can grow a quarter standard in one season but really they are better grown during the first season to flower the second. ...Ok, been playing lead guitar very on and off for many years. To be honest, I have always been more of an acoustic player, but decided last year to take the plunge and get myself an electric. Now what a minefield this can be. Prices vary dramatically, and as much as I would appreciate a new Gibson Les Paul Special edition, it was somewhat out of my price range. Decided on the tele for a variety of reasons, looks, sound, history. The decision was then whether to get the cheap Squier tele (about 200 quid), the mexican standard tele (I bought this for 350), or one of the many standard USA teles (anywhere from 500 quid up). Not being a regular player or a pro, I discounted the USA tele. Played the squier tele in a shop, but to be honest it didnt feel quite right. ...that they don`t break if a horse gets caught, the link is more likely to break, or the horse to sustain an injury. I have only seen one injury when the horse was left in the stable (not mine) for a very short length of time. The horse managed to catch the headcollar on something on the stable door resulting in a visit from the vet and stitches in the face of the horse. So, whilst it is unlikely for the horse to sustain an injury from the headcollar, it does happen, so for this reason I tend to remove it unless I am leading or tying up. ...Everyone is offering cheap this and that on mortgages. Not saying this is necessarily the best deal for everyone but its way way from the worst, especially if you want to transfer from an existing mortgage as I did. What's on offer: a) All transfer fees paid - legal, valuation etc. None of those booking fees either for the standard rate product. b) interest charged daily c) discount of 1.76% for the first six months. And standard rate of interest very competitive (currently 6.75%) d) cash reserve so you can draw down more if you don't take the full whack at the outset - at no cost e) switch between interst only and repayment at no cost f) payment holidays possible - you will of course pay for these through extra interest but hey, can you find a lender who doesn't!
