STANSTED AIRPORT - AKA RYAN AIRPORT

Advantages: Modern, clean and organised
Disadvantages: Distance from London. Getting there by road

...I have only used Stansted airport once, having previously used other airports including Heathrow airport and Bristol airport. STANSTED AIRPORT QUICK LOCATION Stansted airport is one of the four main airports which is associated with London (the other three being Heathrow, Gatwick and Luton). Out of the four, Stansted is the one that is furthest away from London. It is approximately 38 miles away from London, to the North of the city, just off the M11 motorway at junction 8a if coming from London or Junction 8 from the Cambridge side. WHY DO THE AIRLINES USE STANSTED? The main advantage of Stansted airport is that is has the advantage that out of the four airports, it has the lowest airport taxes which we all have to pay when travelling, and which all the airlines charge on top of the tickets that we pay to...

LONDON STANSTED TRANSPORT

Advantages: BIG
Disadvantages: NONE

...Thank you for a really detailed explanation on one think that I am really concerned. Namely, I have a plan to come to London (only for the second time) in September to stay there for a few days. And I have these two problems. First: On the arrival day I want together with my friend visit a football match at Wembley starting at 3 pm. But my flight arrive only at 1:20 pm (which I realized only after I booked the ticket). So I know that Stansted Express is the most expensive way to get to the center of London from where I can use tube, but I believe it is at the same the fastest and my only option to get there on time (maybe???). Maybe taxi which by estimation is around 60Ł could be fastest or not. Anyway, since there is no possibility to enter Wembley with the baggage nor they have a special storage to leave it there, I need...

Free Parking

Advantages: Strangely compelling
Disadvantages: A pretty dark subject

...Buy one get one free offers are quite possibly the greatest invention shops have given us. For all of us, it?s a chance to get something for nothing. But for the brave, it?s a world of opportunity. After all, if you already have one thing you?d really like in your hand, something you?d willingly pay the full price for anyway and they?re offering you something else, you?re getting it for nothing. So you have nothing to lose. It was this latter attitude that put Stuart Browne?s ?Dangerous Parking? in my hand recently. This particular buy one get one free offer was in my local Oxfam. Having chosen a book I knew I?d like, I could afford to take a chance on my other purchase. At worst, my total outlay would be about £1.50 and I already had something worth £6.00 in my hand, and something I knew I was going to enjoy. If I was going...

Car Parking for the Confused

Advantages: easier than a taxi/bus
Disadvantages: could work out expensive, handing over your car keys to strangers

...So as previously mentioned I recently flew to Scotland from Gatwick airport, living where I do I didn't want to be trying to get a train as getting to a train station is tricky and I don't want to be using taxis given how much it can cost to travel 80 miles even when one is prebooked. So knowing I was flying from Gatwick I used the Gatwick airport website to compare the prices of the nearby carparks, it came up with Park Plus as the cheapest by quite a considerable amount for the time period I was looking at. With a 4am drop off on Friday morning and 4pm latest pick up time on Sunday it cost me £18.60. Arriving at Gatwick airport you need to follow the directions to the South Terminal and the Long Term Parking, from here you enter the car parks, there are several but Park Plus was one of the first on the left and is clearly...

Stansted Hilton Gym

Advantages: good instruction, not too busy, fun atmosphere
Disadvantages: could be too pricey for some

...On being diagnosed with 'Ankylosing Spondylitis' (I think I've spelt it right!)I knew I needed to begin to get fit, I had visited my physio and got excercises from her that stretched my spine but wanted more. Basically with this disease the less you move the more you lose the ability to move (in a nutshell) so I decided to look for a gym. In the Stansted area you aren't really spoilt for choice, but undeterred I went along to the Living Well Gym at the airport's Hilton Hotel. I found them on the internet using Ask Jeeves - it looked good but the web site was quite vague in what exactly was on offer in each Living Well Centre. I popped in on my way home from work on 25th February and saw Glen, who was very helpful. He told me what they had there, and how much it all was, he also informed me that if I joined in February there...

The airport and parking

Advantages: cheap flights
Disadvantages: nothing to do at the airport

...Stansted is the easiest airport for me to reach, and the airport that I choose to fly from ,that said I can't help but feel that they have neglected to begin your holiday from the airport. Parking with the pink elephant is easy and fairy reasonable £18.00 for 3 days .You park the car in an off site car park and regular busses collect you from the bus stop nearest the car .You must remember where you left the car..The bus will collect you from near enough the same spot to take you back..but be ware that they will cram every passenger possible on the bus back ..which means that you end up waiting until the bus is bursting..and the driver gets a little ratty when he can't cram anyone else on.You can pay for the parking at the machines in the baggage claim hall..so keep the ticket handy .This will save time leaving the car park.We paid...

APH Parking at Manchester

Advantages: Inexpensive, courteous, polite service
Disadvantages: Not so easy to find, waiting around for buses to pick you up can be a pain

...of trains and coaches. Although the instructions were a little shady from the M60 anti-clockwise, everything else was pretty straightforward and I'd definitely recommend using APH if you are looking for a cheap parking option when you're off to the airport next. APH operate 30 car parks in total from the following 16 UK airports: Belfast Birmingham Bristol Cardiff East Midlands Edinburgh Gatwick Glasgow Heathrow Leeds Liverpool Luton Manchester Newcastle Prestwick Stansted They also offer Hotel booking and parking, travel insurance, "escape the crowds" lounges for a small premium, and car hire. My experience with them was of excellent service, and I'd thoroughly recommend them if you're flying from any of the above airports, although it would be wise...

Review of Manchester Airport Parking

Nightmare parking

Advantages: none
Disadvantages: extortionate fines

...I understand that parking restrictions and fines need to be in place, especially in city centres, as it would cause chaos on the roads. However, I do feel that I must vent some of my anger on the way my Local Authority in Bristol works in terms of parking. The charges for parking are astronomically expensive if you wish to park in the centre of Bristol. I often see traffic wardens hunting around in 'packs', prowling by cars on parking meters so they can instantly give them a ticket as soon as they go one minute past the ticket expiry time. Traffic wardens are now paid commission on how many tickets they manage to give out, they also work until midnight now as the majority of the parking meters charge up until midnight. I hate them, they are the dregs of society. They purposely print tickets that you must display on your car...

Review of Parking Fines and Clamping

BCP Manchester Airport Parking

Advantages: situation of car park adjacent to terminals
Disadvantages: think I have said enough in my review.

...moved, the low fuel light was flashing, this only happens when the initial static low fuel level light has been on for quite some miles. This was a bit of a shock to me because when I handed the car over there was around a quarter tank of fuel in the tank, around 12 and a half litres, I get around 35 miles to the gallon, and knowing that we had a fair journey back to where we live I did not want the hassle of having to get to a petrol station after a long flight, so I knew that I had enough fuel for any distance they had to cover in parking the car and returning it to me and also our journey home. I pointed this out to the driver when he handed me the carpark ticket, to be fair he was quite sympathetic, but said that all the car would have done was around 22 miles, 11 miles to carrington and 11 miles back. He said that he could only...

London Stansted Airport update

Advantages: Good Transport/modern
Disadvantages: can be full in summer(currently being expanded to eliviate this)

...I actually work at Stansted airport and so feel I am in a position to give an up to date apprasial of the current situation. First of all Travelling to the Airport. There are currently roadworks on the M11 just south of the Stansted Airport turn off(Junction 8)so allow yourself an extra half hour to an hour travellling time if travelling from the M11 London or from the M25. Parking at the Airport is slightly cheaper than at Gatwick or Heathrow. There is a long stay car park which is situated about 3/4 mile from junction 8(some 3 miles from the terminal. If you park there a free bus service brings you to the airport every 10 minutes. The short stay car park is situated at the front of the terminal with easy access to the building. Once inside the terminal the check in desks are directly in front of you.The information desk is situated...
