...I actually work at Stansted airport and so feel I am in a position to give an up to date apprasial of the current situation. First of all Travelling to the Airport. There are currently roadworks on the M11 just south of the Stansted Airport turn off(Junction 8)so allow yourself an extra half hour to an hour travellling time if travelling from the M11 London or from the M25. Parking at the Airport is slightly cheaper than at Gatwick or Heathrow.There is a long stay car park which is situated about 3/4 mile from junction 8(some 3 miles from the terminal.If you park there a free bus service brings you to the airport every 10 minutes.The short stay car park is situated at the front of the terminal with easy access to the building. ...Stansted has changed a lot over the years. It's now a very smart looking airport, rather futuristic in it's design - both modern and clean. It's not too big that you can't find your way round, but does exude a feeling of size and openness. It's well laid out inside, so that no matter how crowded it is, there is still that same sense of space and it's so easy to get about. The check in areas are clearly marked, making it easy to find the airline you want. After going through to the departure area, there are plenty of seats, good shops and restaurants. The shuttle train is excellent for getting to the gates which are further off in the other building - automated and fast! ...On being diagnosed with 'Ankylosing Spondylitis' (I think I've spelt it right!)I knew I needed to begin to get fit, I had visited my physio and got excercises from her that stretched my spine but wanted more. Basically with this disease the less you move the more you lose the ability to move (in a nutshell) so I decided to look for a gym. In the Stansted area you aren't really spoilt for choice, but undeterred I went along to the Living Well Gym at the airport's Hilton Hotel. I found them on the internet using Ask Jeeves - it looked good but the web site was quite vague in what exactly was on offer in each Living Well Centre. Many people only see Heathrow and Gatwick as the main players in the London area. However Stansted is a more modern, less congested viable alternative. Getting to Stansted is very easy indeed, being conveniently located and easily accessible from most places. It is situated next to Junction 8 of the M11, which makes accessing London, East Anglia and the north, very simple. For those who don’t drive (or perhaps don’t relish the thought of paying to park!) there is a railway station situated under the terminal. ...Stansted is on the Hearts/Essex border and although it is a bit out of the way to have the prefix "London" it is worth the extra miles. The low-cost airlines of Ryanair and EasyJet fly out from Stansted so it is much cheaper to fly than BA but also Stansted has much improved services than Heathrow and Gatwick for unstressful flying. ***Getting to Stansted*** ROAD: Stansted is off from J8a of the M11 and is about 20 minutes from the M25, but inevitably more in rush-hour traffic. Once you get into Stansted you have the choice of three different types of parking: Long-Stay, Mid-Stay and Short-Stay. Long-Stay is the cheapest than the others but futhest away from the terminal. Even though you may be only parking you car for only 3 days i is still the cheapest at £7.20 a day (more than 6 days at £6.80). The car park is very big... Read review

...Stansted airport is usually the cheapest London airport to fly from, as it is the airport that most of the budget airlines fly from. I use it regularly. I used to avoid the early and late arrivals, assuming that getting to and from the airport would be too difficult, however I've found that it's quite achievable. It's definitely worth trying out a few 1p 6.30am flights! I can offer the following tips for using Stansted efficiently: Getting to and from the airport: Virtually all my flights leave before 8am and arrive after 11pm, as these are the cheapest. This can make transport difficult, as I don't have a car. There are 3 options for early/late arrivals and departures. Terravision I personally use Terravision Coaches and heartily recommend them. ...Before the Stansted Express you could choose the car and drive to the airport from Central London. This is a nightmare in rush hour traffic and then you have to go through the perils of Long-Stay Parking. Or you could take a bus or coach but these too would become caught up in the traffic. Or you could take the local train but these are almost invitably delayed or cancelled meaning you would miss your flight. The Stansted Express is a train service but unlike the rest of the British network. It is fast, frequent and more importantly on-time though it does have the cost of the British Railways. Trains leave from Liverpool Street Station direct to Stansted Airport (apart from also stopping at Tottenham Hale - is you are travelling into the West End take the Stansted Express to Tottenham Hale and then you can take the Victoria Line...
