...I was very annoyed when I built my new pc and installed xp to find Easy CD creator would no longer work, so annoyed I wrote a damning opinion on ciao, slating Roxio. Eventually, after three months of calming down and desperately trying to get around the fact that Easy cd creator 3, 4 or Direct cd 2.5 will never work on XP and being fed up with microsofts limited and slow cdwriting package(no re-writing) I decided it was time to buy the Platinum 5 software. I searched the net.....how much? still 50 quid? Tried everything even bidding on an illegal copy on ebay to get this packet writing software at a sensible price. So out I went into sunny Bournemouth....PC World, nill stock £50....Staples, nill stock £45, Commet, nil stock, Dixons????? "what is that?" and "does it work on Playstaion2?" ...There never was anything really wrong with Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe, so why am I now writing about version 5.0 Platinum? Because bl**** Windows XP Pro won’t work with the older version, that’s why! However, it would only be a matter of time before I upgraded my CD-Writer to a newer faster model, and then support for 32-speed models probably wouldn’t exist on version 4 anyway, so the enforced necessity of the upgrade isn’t a COMPLETE waste of money. In the mean time, the software is now owned by Roxio, which sounds more like a Spanish cinema chain than a software house, but that’s by the by. It was on the support page their web site, www.roxio.com that I ascertained the need for the upgrade. Windows XP only informed me that the old version might not work. But why buy CD-Burning software when the CD-Writer itself... Read review

Thats right, you have been out and bought a set of blank CD's to record your music, software or files on and have lost a few in the process. That box of 10 Blanks that cost only £5 worked out at only 50p a CD. CREATING CDS Creating CDs couldn't be simpler. You insert a blank CD and select your project type. You can create audio, data, mixed, video cd, bootable and more. Once you've done this you can drag and drop items into your CD layout. Version 5 now allows you to add mp3s to CD automatically, and it rips them itself. It will also imoport previous sessions on the CD if they exist. This is useful as once you write a new session onto a CD using this feature, you will be able to see both sessions without having to change between them. Writing the actual CD is simple. Advantages: Very fast drive. Good software and updates. Looks gorgeous.

...It is easy to get skeptical as the onslaught of technology goes from 1GHz to 2GHz to 3GHz. Is it really 3 times faster? Does a 52X CD-ROM drive really read 6 times faster than an old 8X drive? Is Double Data Rate memory twice as fast as normal SDRAM? For the most part, the answer is a stonking "NO". There are overheads in all of the above, but they ARE faster, just not in a straight line from zero. So when I had to buy a CD-RW drive for my PC, I was loathe to go faster than 16X or 24X writing. After all, a 700MB data CD is 80 minutes, so 16X writing should mean it takes (quick calculation) 5 minutes to write a full CD. I usually used my old CD-RW drive about once a day, so it wasn't like I had queue of disks to write, just the odd file transfer or backup. As it happened, my supplier was out of stock on the lower speed drives... Read review

Fortuitously it was about this time that the makers created the compact disc. They were a big hit with the people and soon became more popular than the audio tape. Everyone bought their audio tape collection again on compact disc and lo, were even more impressed. The makers were happy because they were selling their entire back-catalogues on the new format. The people were happy because there were no more chewed tapes and no more waiting to rewind or fast forward to their favourite songs. Could the people want for anything more? Of course they could. ...A floppy disk has been standard on a PC for years. It was a fast, easy and efficient way of transferring and storing data. The 1.44mb capacity meant you could save those important MS Word documents to disk, so that you couldn’t lose them. Now what happened to the floppy disk? Maybe it was reliability? The life span of a disk? The size? Well consider this, as PC’s have moved on so far, a floppy disk basically cannot cope. They only store 1 and a half MB, which to the average PC user, is about 0.0075 percent of their entire computer’s Hard Drive. What I am trying to say there is literally not enough room for all your work. Imagine bringing home those holiday snapshots, to show your family on a disk, well the chances are that only about 7 or 8 of them will fit on the disk. But obviously there is the technology of CD... Well I thought it was about time I actually wrote about the site, instead of just giving them the odd mention. So here we go a little bit about one of the best places to buy CD’s from. I’m sure your already aware that I buy a lot of CD’s, well one of my mates was aware of this too and a few years ago he found a site that had about 200 CD’s for sale at about £8.99 a piece and a further 100 or so at £6.99.
