Great repair kit for scratches
Review of Mer Scratch & Stone Chip Removal Kit by
ucjtckc
Advantages: Quick, Easy to use. Good results can be achived. Doesn't require expert knowledge/ability
Disadvantages: Instructional video could be better, poor packaging
...I have to admit that I have a bit of a thing for keeping my car clean - were it not for the fact that I don't have a drive and that I live on the 5th floor of a block of flats I would probably be out every Sunday washing and waxing my car.
A couple of weeks ago I took the opportunity to give the car a 'quick wash' before taking some friends out for a drive. Happily washing all that grime off the car (it had after-all collected a few particles of dust whilst parked!) my grip on the sponge suddenly slipped and I brought my other hand (with bucket) to catch it before it fell to the ground. Unfortunately in an effort to save the 99p sponge from hitting the ground, the bucket managed to make contact with the door and created a rather pretty collection of scratches about 4 inches long. I was mortified!
Of course, these weren't your...

You scratch my back...
Review of Pork Scratchings by
Mojoly
Advantages: Readily available
Disadvantages: Not the real thing
...Whoever came up with the name scratchings??
Or does this originate from somewhere south of the Watford Gap?
(Profuse apologies to anyone who may, or may not, take offence at this little jab, it’s obligatory to have a go whenever one can)
When I were a lad, it were known as Crackling!
Not that I was ever a lad, a bit of a tomboy maybe, but never a lad ;)
So, what are scratchings then?
According to the packet I have here the ingredients are:
Pork Rinds, salt, flour, flavourings,
Rusk (?!), Monosodium Glutamate E621, Onion Pd, Citric Acid (?!), E330 and Natural Colour Paprika E160c
Okay – what is crackling then?
Pork skin and salt.
And I know which I prefer.
The ingredients list for Scratchings gives me pause for thought; and I’m going to share my thoughts with you.
Why on earth would one need to add flavouring...

Up to Scratch
Review of Pork Scratchings by
bluefrog199
Advantages: tasty
Disadvantages: look absolutely repulsive
...Now this is not necessarily a bad thing, but let's get it out in the open straight away: pork scratchings are dirty. There's no denying it. Even the name conjures up unpleasant images of fat, sweating men grubbing around on the abattoir floor, filthy fingernails scrabbling through the offal in search of scraps of pigskin to put in their scum-soiled, bubbling vats of oil. Never has anyone, before or since, had the sheer nerve to put something so visually unappealing into a plastic bag and try to make people pay money for it. Dirty. Dirty piggy lumps. So dirty, in fact, that maybe I'm getting a little bit turned on. No, it's okay, I'm not. Aroused by a pork scratching? What kind of weirdo do you think I am? But anyway, the question must still be asked: Why on Earth do otherwise sane people eat them?
Here's why: they actually taste...

The scratchings of a pig...
Review of Pork Scratchings by
jamessmyth199
Advantages: taste alright
Disadvantages: the whole concept is a bit foul
...To adapt slightly a popular folk saying: there's nowt so queer as pork scratchings. Allow me to illuminate.
Imagine sitting around a big oak table with your family. Mother brings out the roast pork, along with steaming bowls of vegetables, roast potatoes, perhaps bacon rolls and sausages if you're very lucky. Father produces a carving knife and slices the meat. "Now, who's for crackling?" Many cries of assent ensue, and the lovely, juicy, crispy delicacy is dished out to the assembled. Mmmm-mmm.
Contrast this with sitting in some dingy public house, scrabbling to open a cheaply-printed plastic bag, and then delving eagerly inside to grab hairy little nuggets of pig-skin, which you then cram into your mouth, as if they were simply normal crisps, made of nature's pure potatoes, rather than the last scrapings of porcine hide, whittled...

What exactly is a pork scratching
Review of Pork Scratchings by
Little_Raven
Advantages: Taste delicious
Disadvantages: Very high in fat
...Pork scratchings are essentially small fried pieces of pig skin, sometimes hairy (well the odd one or two), sometimes chewy and fatty but if you find the right brand they can be mighty fine.
They are commonly found on sale behind a bar in a pub because basically have you ever heard of anyone sitting down with a cup of tea and a nice bag of pork scratchings? or served for lunch with a nice salad? no?... well thats because not only is the best accompaniment a good pint but they're not very...'posh'
They are alleged to have originated in the West Midlands or Black Country and were very much a food of the working classes right back in the 1800's where families would keep their own pigs for slaughter.
The basic recipe for pork scratchings is just pork rind and salt although various different brands add extra ingredients.
The most...

Basic but works perfectly
Review of Stanton - 500AL by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: Cheap, nice sound quality and durable
Disadvantages: Basic and unattractive
...Every DJ relies most on his styli. It's not the most obvious thing sat on the desk half way through a set, but with bad styli the end result can be dreadful. The stylus is also the interface between the sound and the record, and with a knackered stylus your records can suffer. I have found the Stanton 500AL to be a very good choice. It's an entry-level stylus, pretty ugly and bulky, but they are very durable. I have also experience with the Shure range of styli but at entry-level I much prefer Stanton 500's because they sound nicer and are less bulky. If you are on a budget, go for Stanton.
(My experience is with Technics 1210MK2's)...

Dr Atkins' answer to the crisp
Review of Pork Scratchings by
budmeister
Advantages: Crisps made with meat, not potato!
Disadvantages: Bad for teeth, full of things that can be bad for you
...I first discovered Pork Scratchings in my old local pub about 12 years ago. They used to hang on the wall in plain plastic bags waiting for the time that someone would be drunk enough to hand over the 50p - invariably that person was me! Since then the humble pork scratching seems to be gaining in popularity and is not only available in dodgy drinking establishments.
A long time went by when I managed to dodge the Pork Scratching but I find myself following Dr Atkins special diet regime, which means very few Carbohydrates. Being a crisp addict makes following the diet a bit tricky, but as Pork Scratchings contain very few carbs and are crunchy and salty they make an ideal substitute.
Your basic Pork Scratching, is much like the crackling (and it is sometimes known as this) that you get from roast pork for Sunday lunch. The skin...

Food of the Gods
Review of Pork Scratchings by
robofish
Advantages: Gorgeous!!
Disadvantages: Stray Hairs!!!
...Pork scratchings, if ever there was an unflattering yet functional name for a foodstuff that's it!!!
Before going any further I had better explain to the uninitiated that there are two types of snack bearing the name "pork scratchings" one is merely expanded corn snacks (fake pork scratchings!!)the other is real pig cooked up and put in a bag (that's the one I'm referring to "real pork scratchings")!
Now I'm not 100% sure of how pork scratchings are made but I believe it involves roasting a live pig over an open fire until the skin blisters and starts to drip fat at this point the pig is released and runs to the nearest wall or tree where it vigourously rubs it's back against said stationary object thus causes the curly "chips" you may all be familiar with.
Before the pig is trussed up it is given a quick shave but rogue hairs do...
