My decks are better than yours.
Review of Numark TTX USB Turntable by
scrabblite
Advantages: Loads of Features, very versatile, robust, reliable.
Disadvantages: BPM lacks accuracy. spindle too short
...Ok I'm mot the greatest DJ but I can hold my own at mixing and my scratching isn't offensive to the ears. But one thing different about me is I have never owned a pair of 1210s of 1200s. I have used them at friend's houses but have not grown to love them unquestioningly like so many DJ's. This is why when I could no longer put up with the low torque of my old Stantons, I took a leap into the unknown and coughed up a small fortune for a pair of the new Numark TTX1's. At the time I new it was a risk but after almost two years of use I have never been more pleased with my decision.
I will not bore you with the details of all the features you can find these in any other review you read. All I need to say is that they are robust, reliable simple to use and adaptable (the ability to swap the pitch slider with the buttons is pretty cool...

USB Turntable - simple, effective and cool!
Review of ION ITT USB-05 by
tech-review
Advantages: Uncluttered, easy-to-use, good-sound
Disadvantages: Lack of information in instruction manual, fairly large space required
...I was given this as a gift after expressing an interest in collecting vinyl. I needed a turntable on which I could play records without the additional expense of an amplifier and speaker system, and this device looked like the best choice (it has a pre-amp, meaning it gives out sound at an already usable level so it can be plugged straight into speakers).
Mine was purchased from Firebox for £79.99 - it's not hugely cheap, but it does contain everything needed and so the price is really quite fair.
First impressions of the turntable were impressive. Size-wize, it is pretty large and you'll need a decent sized area (approx 42cm x 34cm x 10cm) on which to place it. If you need something a little smaller, the comparable TTUSB10 looks like it has a slightly more discrete footprint for a slightly higher price. Obviously though, the size...

ION ITT USB TURNTABLE
Review of ION ITT USB by
marshland
Advantages: The easy way to transfer vinyl to cd or mp3
Disadvantages: expensive
...If you have a stack of old vinyl records at home and are frequently quoted saying ' they don't make records like they used to' then the ION ITT USB turntable is the product that you need. Whilst a lot of the classic vinyl albums have been released on CD there are still many that are not available.
The turntable is made from sturdy plastic with clear easy to use controls.
The only assembly required is to put the head together and attach it to the turntable mount. Getting the balance correct is fundamental to record reproduction but the instructions are clear and the task is comparatively easy.
Software is included to load onto your computer and then connection is merely by means of a USB lead.
The turntable is capable of playing vinyl singles, EP's or LP's at sppeds of 33 or 45 prm.
Recording is simple. Play the vinyl...

Basic but works perfectly
Review of Stanton - 500AL by
QuinnTheEskimo
Advantages: Cheap, nice sound quality and durable
Disadvantages: Basic and unattractive
...Every DJ relies most on his styli. It's not the most obvious thing sat on the desk half way through a set, but with bad styli the end result can be dreadful. The stylus is also the interface between the sound and the record, and with a knackered stylus your records can suffer. I have found the Stanton 500AL to be a very good choice. It's an entry-level stylus, pretty ugly and bulky, but they are very durable. I have also experience with the Shure range of styli but at entry-level I much prefer Stanton 500's because they sound nicer and are less bulky. If you are on a budget, go for Stanton.
(My experience is with Technics 1210MK2's)...

Not quite Technics, but C-L-O-S-E ! ! !
Review of Numark - Pro TT-1 Turntable by
digginit
Advantages: Gorgeous looks, LCD information, reverse play, 78 rpm, tonearm height adjust, Best Alternative to Technics for the money
Disadvantages: pitch control feels a bit cheap, nothing else really at this price
...For a long time, the only turntables which DJs would even consider using were the Technics SL-1200/1210's. Then came Vestax, who were technically (that is to say, on paper) better than Technics. Numark have never released a Technics contender, until they released the Pro-TT-1. Of course, it all depends on what setup you have and your mixing style et al.
You look at the Pro TT-1 and you realise that it was designed for the higher market of DJ turntables. Its silver finish
Basically, the features are the same as Technics (e.g. tonearm height adjustment), but you get the added noticible features of 78RPM play (for people who own such records!), reverse play and an LCD display which shows all the information about the operation of the turntable in real time. There's also a button which snaps to Quartz play or Pitch play.
You can...

King of the turntables. The DJ Super
Review of Ortofon OM 10 Super by
andycharger
Advantages: sound quality, ease of cueing, looks
Disadvantages: Durability and price
...Im sitting here at my desk wondering why I have just blown £67.50 on a new Cartridge and needle for one of my decks at home.
For those of you that think that last statement is a load of jibberish, perhaps I should enlighten you.
I hate to admit it but I am a bedroom dj. Yes, thats right. Im one of those who owns a set of turntables and plays banging Vinyl tunes until the neighbours complain.
So now you know what I do, maybe I should tell you what this opinion is about...
OK, so you have a record player or turntable as we call them in front of you. Now the Arm bit that goes on the record has 2 pieces to it that you might not know about. This pack contains both the Cartridge and the Needle. Firstly, at the end of the arm is what we call a cartridge.
CARTRIDGE

This holds a stylus on one end and plugs...

The CD Player is Dead Long Live the Turntable
Review of Technics SL1210MK2Y by
jason.rowe
Advantages: Well Built
Disadvantages: None
...), but they are essentially the same. Both units are direct drive, with pitch controls set at +-8%. This uses a sliding scale, so the speed of the record can be alterted very acurately and easily. The tone arm is of the curved variety, to be honest I don't know what difference this makes to the overall sound quality. Some of the newer decks are starting to use a straight tone arm. However one important factor is that the styli have to purchased seperately, there are many on offer of vary degrees of quality. I went with the industry standard Stanton 500AL and these with cartridges work out at about £25-£30 each, these normally last at least 2-3 years depending on wear and tear and how much scratching you do. Alternatively if you wish to learn scratching the choice of styli it is better to choose different styli. Another extra that must be purchased if you...

As Good As Technics. Nearly.
Review of Gemini XL-1800 Turntable by
samredmore
Advantages: Ahem. They're record decks.
Disadvantages: Where shall I start?
...certainly not recommend for you to buy these if you were looking for a pair of cheap direct drive decks. They handle as if they are belt drive, and there really are better value ones available, which is why I am currently saving up for what have generally been regarded as the best quality and most reliable decks for the past 25 years, Technics SL-1210s.
Basically, there are two types of deck, belt drive and direct drive. I won't go into the details of what makes them work differently, but the main difference between the two is the amount of torque (power with which the deck is turned).
On a belt drive deck, it is very low torque. If you were to touch the record on a belt drive deck, with the intention of slowing it down, the turntable will slow down and take a while to get up to the speed it was previously at. This makes it very difficult...

Technics 1200 / 1210 Mk2
Review of Technics SL1200Mk2 Turntable by
giles-y
Advantages: same turntable at home as in the clubs
Disadvantages: heavy
...Technics 1200 / 1210 what more can you say its the number one DJ turntable on the planet.
For years and years when i was younger just geting in to Djing all i wanted was a pair of technics.
after a few years with other direct drive decks i finally saved enough money to buy a pair i of technics, i bought the SL1200Mk2 because they were silver i did not like the brown of the 1210 much.
i have read around and talked to people and aparently the only difference between the 1200 and the 1210 is the colour.
I set up my new 1200s and got the tunes out. Wow what a turntable, after years of trying out all other types of direct drive turntables i could instantly see and feel the difference in build quality. the technics weight alot compared to any other turntable, this is because the bottom black base you see is not made of cheap moulded...
