...I wasn't too sure where to stick this op, as there are two categories on Ciao about StarCity as a shopping centre and Star City as a Cinema, and I wanted to write about both! So, being the mercenary that I am, this is the first in a two part series - two lots of 10p's!! - and deals with one of the most impressive multiplexes I've ever been to. Star City was opened in July 2000 and was touted as the largest cinema in Europe - the Warner Bros website (www.warnervillage.co.uk) now says it's the largest in the UK so some dratted Europeans must have beaten us - but it is still huge. Star City

Advantages: Everything all in one place
Disadvantages: Not in city centre

...After a lot of hype the complex known as Star City opened it?s doors to the public not so long ago. With it?s 30-screen cinema it holds the title of largest cinema in the United Kingdom. (Six of these screens being dedicated to Bollywood movies) It is also home to a number of shops, restaurants and bars. On getting there I was very pleased with what I found, there has obviously been a lot of money spent in order to create one of the best entertainment complexes in Birmingham. The premiere of the film The Perfect Storm was held here with the presence of both George Clooney and Mark Warlhberg making it one of the few cinemas outside London to premiere a Hollywood movie. It is well worth a visit....

4 stars for Star City

Advantages: Lots of choice, films, prices; shops, bars, eateries etc
Disadvantages: only one cash till machine, difficult to reach/find, expensive for families

...After a two year wait and many millions of pounds later, Birmingham can be very proud of its latest jewel in its entertainment crown. Star City pays host to over 30 screens, one of which is the biggest in Britain and 2nd biggest in Europe. not only does it have big screens but the sound quality is absolutely top class and wipes the floor with other multiplexes in the city. In addition the chairs are very comfy with plenty of leg room, which makes a change from the usual cramped conditions found these days. Okay so it can be a bit pricey for a family of four, but it is worth it. Plus the fact Star City isn't just a mini Hollywood, it also boasts a host of shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, coffee shops and other little useful nic-nacks, although a few more cash till machines wouldn't go a miss. the only other quibble is its...

This city of stars sure lights the sky up

Advantages: Big, bright, attractive, lots to do

...Star City is an entertainment complex located in Englands second city, Birmingham. It features cinemas, restaurants, shopping, bowling, a recent casino, and other odds and ends at different times of year, eg fair rides. Opened: July 2000 Location: Birmingham, north. Best Hotel in Birmingham City

...The Thistle Birmingham City Hotel is situated a few miles away from Birmingham International Airport, easily accessible from the major motorway network and close to New Street Station. I stayed at the hotel for 8weeks on a business trip and really enjoyed my stay there. The rooms are very clean, its well maintained. Staff very friendly and helpful. During Christmas time there are loads of parties and the in house guests have no flexibility in the food timings which was a major draw back. Food was very good and so is the bar always well stocked! You can have a short walk for your shopping to the City centre, Bull Ring and the Convention Centre. I would definitely recommend this hotel to my friends and would return again....

...This review for Ciao describes my stay (during August 2008) at the glittering Star City Casino Hotel, located in Pyrmont, an inner city suburb of Sydney Australia. Previous reviews of this hotel have only really described the casino area, but you can have a great time staying here even if you aren't into gambling, because there's lots of places to eat and things to see and do. Also I took a few photos at the hotel, and readers may be interested in these. Good points were as follows. Excellent proximity to the downtown area. It was easy to get to most of Sydney's attractions from here. For example there is a monorail which runs very near to the hotel, and this got me in no time to shopping areas downtown. STAR CITY PT 2 - A Shopping Centre with 3 Shops

Advantages: The Cinema and lots of Good food Shops
Disadvantages: The Lack Of Any Other Shops

...small, so you have to keep your eyes peeled! However, when you get up close, Star City is pretty hard to miss as aside from being huge it's also lit up with a number of neon signs in variuous garish colours! Point number 2 - big car park! It has 2,979 places apparently so the chances are that you'll have no problem parking at all. However, the car park also has speed humps the size of small mountains so be prepared for a VERY bumpy ride arround the car park - it amazed me quite how big they were! The Star City complex does seem to be on a bus route but as I'm not a native of Birmingham I can't tell you which one. The whole thing does seem to be aimed at car users though, as most out-of-town shopping centres/cinemas are... So SHOPPING (welcome back to those who left us!)! As you walk into Star City along one of the small paved streets...

Don't Be A Chicken - Go Peri-Peri Mad

...I’d been wanting to go to Nandos for ages. In a bit of Ciao searching I discovered that Nandos was the top rated fast food restaurant and I’d never heard of it in my entire life. What was this place, why was it so good, were there any that weren’t situated in London? I decided my best bet was Birmingham and to be precise, Star City in Birmingham. So for my Birthday treat off we trekked to Star City to see Moulin Rouge followed by a slap up meal at Nandos. Nandos is a chain of restaurants which sell fantastically spicy chicken complete with their infamous Peri-Peri sauce which is hot enough to take the skin off the inside of your mouth! ...I think I spend far too much time in hotels, and can be quite demanding. That said, it is with pleasure I report that the City Inn in Birmingham is a hidden gem. Location The hotel is located in the trendy Brindley Place development just off Broad Street in Birmingham, and as such is ideally situated for pubbing, clubbing and general merriment and yet being secluded (for a city) enough for a bit of peace and quiet. Brindley Place itself is home to a variety of trendy bars and restaurants including the (in)famous Bank and various luxury apartments. It's a mainly pedestrianised area, and is easily accessible by foot bus or train from New Street station. ...When i looked at the previous reviews for this I was astonished not only to find one review, but the fact it wasn't even about this casino! I felt compiled to write a review and give Star City Casino of Australia the proper review that it deserves. During my travels around Australia i spent a month in Sydney (please see my other reviews about Sydney) and was amazed by the diversity of the attractions available.
