KK Opera Hotel Budapest
Review of K + K Hotel Opera, Budapest by  webfoot

Advantages: Good city centre location, great froiendly staff
Disadvantages: small rooms, poor showers.

...The last of a Hungary trilogy - I promise!! The KK Opera Hotel wasn't my choice and I have mixed views about it. I'll be brief and to the point - no point in padding this one out Location: Well being by the river is great, but this is in the centre of the old city , and is within spitting distance of the magnificent Opera House and right by the Opera Metro station; you can walk comfortably to the river in under 15 mins. As a four star hotel costing Ł80-90 a night I would call this a 3 star 4 star hotel. It had some good feature and it had some bad features. Let's start with the bad features. 1.The room was by my own experience of 4star hotels, a bit on the small side. 2.The bathroom/toilet door was spring loaded. Metal to metal door latches at even a moderate speed makes a resounding and irritating crash. Not good... Read review

Budapest Marriott
Review of Budapest Marriott Hotel, Budapest by  bluejules

Advantages: Beautiful hotel with friendly staff
Disadvantages: none

...In February, I went to Budapest with my parents for a few days. My dad booked the break over the internet (flights and accommodation) so he chose the hotel that we stayed in. Having stayed in a Marriott hotel on a previous holiday, I was not disappointed when he told us that we would be staying in a Marriott in Budapest. What I didn't know until we got there was that we would be staying in a junior suite! (The room was discounted when we stayed so we got a better room for our money! :) The Budapest Marriott is located on the riverside of Pest and had a fantastic view of the river Danube. We were lucky enough to have a water facing room. The hotel was within walking distance of the main attractions in the city centre. The hotel was about 20 minutes form the airport and cost approximately 35 Euros (about Ł24) to get there. Upon... Read review

Budding Budapest
Review of Budapest (Hungary) by  BizzyBek

Advantages: Superb architecture, easy to find your way around
Disadvantages: Somewhat dour air around it

...-day tickets etc make it a simple way to explore. Being a large city it can be tough on the feet - take some comfortable shoes, it may sound like common sense but this is one city that really got to my feet! There is also the metro system. Oh, this brings tears of laughter to the eyes. With three lines it is hardly the London Underground and is very simple to use, with ticket machines in the stations and people were very helpful when I first tried to figure it out. The first part of underground was opened in 1896, other lines opening in 1973 and 1979. It is rather rickety and small but is worth the journey to see some wonderful tiling in the underground stations. HOTELS Budapest has a wide range of hotels from 5 to 1 star as well as guest houses and a youth hostel. The price of the larger chain hotels is comparable with that in other... Read review

A Place to Rest your Weary Head in Budapest
Review of Mercure Budapest Metropol, Budapest by  Essexgirl2006

Advantages: Clean, modern, good breakfast, mainly helpful staff and reasonable location
Disadvantages: One member of staff rude.

...Hotel: Mercure Budapest Metropol Address: 58 Rakoczi, Budapest,1074, Hungary Telephone: 00 36 (0) 1 462 8100 Travelling with a group at a popular time such as New Year can often make finding hotels difficult. This year I was single so needed a single room, and this was proving to be difficult as many places did not offer single rooms and if they did they were more of the two star variety (and not good 2 stars according to some reviews) so had to bite the bullet and get a room that was only a fraction less than the price of my friends' doubles. Apart from that the only criteria was that the hotel be centrally located and clean. The hotel Budapest Metropol certainly fitted the above criteria and we booked the rooms through www.superbreak.com as they were offering four nights for the price of three on a bed & breakfast basis... 4* this isn't but it is a lovely hotel!
Review of Hotel Budapest, Budapest by  Bex727

Advantages: Location, views
Disadvantages: Not a 4*, unvaried breakfast

...Well, four star this isn\'t (going by other four star hotels) but it is a good hotel! The hotel is located on the Buda side of the city at the foot of castle hill and if all you want from a hotel is somewhere pleasant to crash after a busy day shopping and sightseeing then this is definately the hotel for you! It is a great location - far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the main town but close enough to walk to it or catch a tram and it just so happens that there is a tram stop right outside the hotel. This hotel does offer one fantastic thing. The view! It\'s a soaring tower of a hotel that is completely circular so from whatever room you are in you get a panoramic view of the beautiful city of budapest. The biggest thing that let the hotel down was the decor. Everything needs mordernising and just generally... Read review

A mini break to Budapest (2006)
Review of Budapest (Hungary) by  bekiboo13

Advantages: a cheap and quick getaway from the U.K
Disadvantages: A language i challenge any one to try and pick up

...Hotel for tea and cake to warm us up. Unfortunately i didn't have time for any spa treatments but definately next time. I would definately recommend Budapest, we stayed at a central 4 star hotel, costing about Ł50 per couple per night, however i only spent Ł35 in the time i was away, not including airport taxi fares and i ate well. However this was one of the more expensive hotels in the city and there are some fantastic rates available if you would prefer to spend less on accommodation. I booked my hotel from the hotel website. A Budapest city card is available where you can save money on sightseeing tours, museums, restaurants and baths. Available for 48 or 72 hours. However there is not quite as much going on in the winter months. Hope you enjoy this city!... Read review

Luxury in Budapest
Review of Hotel Andrassy, Budapest by  danielalong

Advantages: Clean, quiet, luxurious
Disadvantages: None

..."Member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the Year" As a surprise (good behaviour??), hubby booked a 3 night short break to Budapest, it being a place I had shown an interest in visiting. We arrived in Budapest in the evening and because it was snowing heavily and we had no idea where we were going, we jumped into a taxi and gave the address of the hotel. After a relatively short and very picturesque drive, we arrived at the hotel which is situated on a wide tree lined avenue, Andrassy Ut. We later found out that this is the principal thoroughfare in Budapest and is known as the Champs Elysees of Hungary, situated as it is in the Embassy district, and close to major attractions. **First Impressions** These are always important, and as the taxi pulled up into the front area which was rather like a modern cobbled courtyard... Best in Pest?
Review of Erzsebet Hotel, Budapest by  Collingwood21

Advantages: Central location, Clean and comfortable room, Multi-lingual staff
Disadvantages: Breakfast room too small, Stiff lock on bedroom door

...As with any capital city, Budapest has a vast array of hotels to choose from; the selection has improved dramatically over recent years, but a great deal of this development has been at the more profitable luxury end of the accommodation market (such as the hulking great Hilton that currently clutters up the otherwise pretty Castle Hill). However, as I was travelling on a Thomas Cook "Signature" trip, this reduced the overwhelming choice down to just the eight listed in their brochure. So why did I plump for the Hotel Erzsébet (Elizabeth Hotel)? Well, it was partly through a process of elimination (the Hilton is a wee bit out of my league…strangely enough, student grants don't stretch to five star accommodation), partly because it was listed as "top marks for its location right in the city centre" (as I wanted convenience to see as much... Buda Pest you (as in Buda Bless you)
Review of Gold Hotel Buda, Budapest by  Chimkuyu

Advantages: Value for money, great service.
Disadvantages: Not perfect location.

...filled with UK bachelor party groups and groups of middle-aged German women (connection?) but the noise levels were quite OK. Overall the Gold Hotel Buda was a good hotel, and probably at the bottom of the spectrum of it's 4 star rating. The rate we paid was part of a March special and was only 75 Euros per night plus Expedia's cut but the price for a double room from 24 March (Season) is 99 Euros per night. I would still say the hotel is a safe bet for somewhere to stay in Budapest although not ideally located. This hotel is hereby approved and recommended. In a note unrelated to the hotel, we found Budapest beautiful and romantic and a lovely place to visit although I'm afraid it is soundly beaten by a number of other European cities (Rome, Edinburgh, Prague …) We found the people unfriendly, the food EXCELLENT and loads to see. Make... Read review

Budapest - I'll Be Back
Review of Budapest (Hungary) by  BNibbles

Advantages: Easy to get around. Plenty to see. Luckily, most people in tourism speak English
Disadvantages: Unfathomable language

..., the return time being dependent on how many times you have to circle Epping Forest before CAA reckon that you're dizzy enough and lets you land! STAYING THERE There really is no shortage of hotel choice here. In amongst the 'silly money' prices like €480/night at Le Méridien, or The Four Seasons Gresham, you'll find little gems like the Hotel Victoria on the river bank in leafy Buda. This was set at a more likely price of €118 per night per double room, including as large a breakfast (hot or cold) that you could handle. It only has 27 rooms spread over 9 floors, giving the building, albeit modern, a rather Amsterdam-like skinniness. All rooms had massive picture windows overlooking the Danube, with the Parliament building in one direction, and that icon of Budapest itself, the famous Danube Chain Bridge in the other. One thing I would say... Read review
