Shropshire Star
Review of Shropshire Star by
Martinscholes
Advantages: Published daily
Disadvantages: It is not quite sure what it is
...The Shropshire Star is an evening tabloid paper published of Shropshire. It now costs 35 pence.
The problem is that the Shropshire Star is not quite sure what it is. Is it a local paper, filled with local news? Or is it, as the slogan it used at one time: "The only daily paper you will ever need?"
Well, you see, that IS the problem. The Shropshire star cannot decide if it is a local paper with local news, or if it is a national and international paper, filled with news from places you have no knowledge of?
Obviously, there is a place for national and international news, but is a local evening paper the place it should be in?
It might be best if the Shropshire Star left international news to the daily press and concentrated its efforts on local news, of which their is enough to fill the paper.
Sports coverage seems to be a bit ropy...

Review of VTech Press n' Play Lights Ball by
mumsymary
Advantages: Good toy
Disadvantages: American sounding voice
...Vetch press and play light ball.
Yes another toy I spoilt my grandson with. I bought this for Adrian when he was about 3 months old it costs about £13- £ 15 .
All babies love balls and babies like sound it attracts their attention.
This ball has a switch on it the volume of the sounds it makes can be switched to loud or quiet or can be switched off. There is a talk setting or a music setting.
This is a colourful ball, which has six star shaped buttons on its side. These are activated when it rolls on them or they are pressed down. The buttons have pictures on them a cat, and a dog, a teddy bear people-waving hello and goodbye in the centre of the ball there is a star with a face on it.
When this ball is played with and rolled around it presses a button when on the music setting it plays a nursery rhyme there are six tunes...

Press n' Play
Review of VTech Press n' Play Lights Ball by
Toady
Advantages: Teachs a child to talk and learn animal sounds
Disadvantages: None
...I brought this toy for my son last Christmas and he loves playing with it, it makes a great toy for babies of 6 months and up. It costs in between £12.99 - £15.99.
It has a switch with three settings talking, music and a turn off setting, it also has a volume control which can be turned to low or high.
In the talking setting if it’s rolled around it says phrases or you can press each button and it will say a phrase. When rolling around or the buttons are press little shaped stars light up. Here are all it’s phrases Bunny, Teddy Bear, Kitten, Puppy, Bye Bye, Hello Baby and after each animal phrase is said it is then followed by the sounds of the animals.
On the music setting if each button is pressed it plays a nursery rhyme so that’s 6 nursery rhymes altogether as it has 6 buttons. Some of these nursery rhymes are...

Vtech Baby Alfie Bear
Review of VTech Alfie Bear by
charkai
Advantages: interactive, fun
Disadvantages: pronunciation of some words
...This was given to my son for Christmas when he was a year old. He is now nearly 3 and he still likes to play with it. The recomended ages are 3 - 36 months, but i think my son will be playing with it for a while yet as he enjoys it so much.
Alfie Bear is a light brown colour, he is wearing red dungarees and there is a big yellow star on his belly. Each point on the star has a face on (Mummy/Daddy/Baby/Grandma/Grandad) and when you press the picture, then they will say who they are. If you press the same picture for a second time, they will laugh and giggle, and if you press the same picture for a third time, then a little tune will be played. In the middle of the star (ie the teddies belly) the words "i love you" will be said.
On one of Baby Alfies paws is a button which you press and music will be played. On the other paw...

Night, Night... Baby... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Review of Tomy Fantasy Dream Show by
sweet_baby
Advantages: Smoothes and entertains baby to fall asleep.
Disadvantages: Only on for 5 or 10 minutes.
...favourite.
It requires 4 x AA batteries which are not included.
It comes with a plastic band to be attached on the cot or you can live it near the baby inside it as free standing- that is what I do and never got any problem with it.
You have a button you press so can change the music. And above it you have another one you can press to turn on or off.
You have another one to "scroll" so you can decide if you want the night light to be on for 5 or 10 minutes or if you want the star completely off so even pressing the other button on/off it won't turn on.
Personally I must say that my baby needs two times 10 minutes and that's it, but he is a really energetic baby and even so, it works with him, which is great.

At Argos, Boots: £12.99

Take this one with you everywhere
Review of VTech Little Smart Tiny Touch Telephone by
cherryfalls
Advantages: Very good value for money
Disadvantages: n/a
...twice and a voice says hello. There are four buttons shaped as a triangle, a star, a circle and a square which flash when the toy is switched onto either setting. These buttons also have the numbers 1 to 4 printed on them so when you press the buttons the light activates and the voice says the number that corresponds to each button. There is also a chunky telephone shapes button, which rings when, pressed and two musical notes, one with a cat printed on it and the other with a dog printed on it. When these are pressed a meowing or barking noise is activated.
If you switch the toy on to music mode then the ringing noise plays once more. When you press any of the shape buttons the voice tells you what the shape is followed by a nursery rhyme. The chunky phone button just rings when pressed but if you press either of the musical notes you...

Billy Crystal one-liner fest
Review of America's Sweethearts (Wide Screen) by
nanoblade
Advantages: Amazing casting, great acting, original story line
Disadvantages: not romantic, and hardly ever funny
...written by and for Billie Crystal’s character. So if you are looking for any side-splitting humour it really isn’t there. And it really is hard to see which parts of the film are romantic after Eddie is caught franticly “spanking the monkey” outside his ex-wife’s apartment.
The main part of the film is based around the press junket or “hoonket” as Gwen’s Spanish lover would put it. As the film showing approaches and it has still not arrived at the studio, Crystal (the publicist) attempts to take the press’s minds off the film. By setting the stars up in awkward situations, one ending in a comic punch up between Eddie and the Spaniard.
The jokes are genuinley amusing but nothing memorable. I wouldn’t mind watching it again but, wouldn’t rush out to buy it on DVD.
It wont...

Boring
Review of Notting Hill by
sailormn
Advantages: Romantic
Disadvantages: Simple and weak plot
...Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts may be big stars but this movie does not move me at all. The plot seems very predictable and boring, though both put in effort in the movie. Julia Roberts, portrays herself, a big famous actress in the movie and met Hugh Grant, a book seller, in a small book store in Nottinghill. After an incident, Julia ended up in Hugh's apartment and fell in love with him. Stressed by the press, she fell out with Hugh but later ended up together. The only humour in the movie is provided by Hugh's house mate.
Well, a very ordinary and simple plot....

Pop-Up Surprise Ball
Review of VTech Press n' Play Lights Ball by
tickle_me_black
Advantages: Great for baby to play with
Disadvantages: Batteries
...We got this toy from Jessica's Nanny 'Burke' when she was just 3months. It cost around £8 from Tesco and at first she didnt really seem interested, she wasnt quite grasping things then and just tended to kick it on the floor. It took a while and many hours of us holding it for her, before she got used to it and learned to hold it for herself. She is now 8months and still gets loads of pleasure out of it. As it's only a small ball shape it's easy to slip into the travel bag and it's a great toy for her to play with in the car.
It has a yellow star button on the top of the ball and when baby presses it a blue puppy pops up and barks. There are also three other animals situated around the ball that introduce numbers, sing-a-long songs and animals sounds.
The ball has a switch located just below the yellow star at the top which...
