STAR WARS LEGO DEATH STAR
Advantages: Impressive to look at ... it has the "wow" factor ! Lots of possibilities & packed with features.
Disadvantages: The price ... maybe this is something for serious collectors rather than kids ???
... THAT'S NO MOON !!!
The Lego Star Wars Collector Series Death Star is an amazing set ... not only does it look fantastic but it provides endless opportunities for recreating your favourite scenes from the Original Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes 4 to 6). You can rescue Princess Leia, disable the Death Star's Tractor Beam, escape from the Trash Compactor and explore the Control Room. You can even recreate the final duel between Luke and Darth Vader in the Emperor's Throne Room.
The set is massive ... and sits on an impressive rotating base. The Death Star itself is packed with rooms, zones and hidden features ... including it's very own hangar bay with mini Tie Fighter !!!
This set also contains an impressive 24 Lego mini figures INCLUDING Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Obi-Wan Kenobi, C-3PO, R2-D2, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Luke...

Lego Deconstruct the Star Wars Saga
Advantages: A great take on Star Wars. Easy to pick up and play. The price!
Disadvantages: Mini-games can get a bit repetitive. Not much else worth complaining about at the price.
...INTRODUCTION
I was searching for stocking fillers on Amazon a few weeks ago when I stumbled across Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga for what seemed like an astonishing bargain at £9.99. I am usually quite circumspect in buying games, often checking a fair few professional and consumer reviews before investing my hard-earned, but given the price and my very positive experience with the original Lego Indiana Jones equivalent for the Wii, I decided to forego the usual due diligence and bought it as a present - for myself.
BASIC PREMISE
For those not familiar with the burgeoning Lego games franchise (Batman, Indiana Jones, Star Wars are soon to be joined by Harry Potter), the basics of the game are quite simple. You usually play through the story-line from each of these films as one of any number and variety of Lego...

Star Wars 3 and a Half
Advantages: Story. All the force powers
Disadvantages: It's too easy
...Currently I only have a Wii, I'm not a big video-game playing person but being a bit of a Star Wars fan I thought the idea of swinging your Wii remote about like a light sabre and throwing people about with the force was too good to resist.
The Game Story
When this film starts off if you're a Star Wars fan it's sheer bliss. At first you get the usual crawl of text summing up what's going on in the galaxy. You then step off a ship as Darth Vader! Your imperial troops are having problems. "Leave it to me" says Vader as he's about to embark on some ass-kicking. The best way to enjoy this mission is to just walk very slowly around as if nothing is really bothering you and casually slice and knock the wookies about. Being the first level it doubles up as a tutorial of sorts and you're constantly getting messages on your screen...

Star Wars Minis
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
..., the characters will never be in the same place and the objects tey want to trade will be different. The problem is that a little bit more snow square, as opposed to rock square on your map and the shuffling of characters doesn't really make for a different game. The items are the same, the puzzles do not change much, the conversations are the same..all that changes is the map which you end up navigating around...
...the poorly drawn map, which your poorly drawn character navigates around poorly. The graphics are all very retro looking. I suppose you could call them cutesy, but they just look...'old' to me which might be ok for a shareware game but not really for something coming from a company like Lucas Arts. Sound effects too are criminally bad. Where is the theme tune to Star Wars and what the hell are all these bleeps and bloops? Better no...

Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds - Utterly Charming Take On RTS
Advantages: Its Star Wars, Faster Paced Than Age Of Empires
Disadvantages: The Online Side Of The Game Is Dead, Not As Much Star Wars As I Hoped
...Around the time of its release, Lucasarts had quite a bad track record with regards to Star Wars based games, none of them really offered something never seen before. The bad news? Nor does Galactic Battlegrounds. Don't get me wrong, I loved the game, it really was an excellent game, but as far as a Star Wars fan was concerned it was mediocre at best.
The goal of the game was to basically collect resources, build and army and destroy the enemy. The basic outline of any RTS game. There was an element of story to the game through the campaign mode. You could play through the game as each of the available civilisations, Wookies, Gungans, Trade Federation, The Empire, Rebel Alliance & Naboo. Each had their own story which was unlinked to any of the films (except the Trade Federation story which had you take over Naboo). While the stories...

Build me a Death Star!!
Advantages: Fun, fun, fun! :-D Especially in 2-player mode.
Disadvantages: Not many...
...attain order in the galaxy, etc etc, evil baddies, and annoying characters.
Put the two together and you get miniaturised and satirised versions of the films where the actors are replaced by LEGO characters. Put that into a computer game and you have? a lot of fun!
LEGO Star Wars features the basic plot of the first three films chronologically speaking ("The Phantom Menace", "Attack of the Clones", and "Revenge of the Sith"). Each part is split into 6 chapters, featuring a major sequence relating to that in the film (though not in every detail). As you progress through the game, you take control of different characters. All in all there are 30 different characters within the game that you can control, though it has to be admitted that some of them are very similar to others, while a few (like the Gonk droid) don't actually seem to be...

Empire at War
Advantages: Good depth
Disadvantages: Camera angles
...a pretty good selection of units to play with many that have already been seen in the Star Wars films before and some new additions.
There is a lot of locations and worlds that need to be explored and conquered in this game, as well as a lot of battles from the films you can reconstruct and fight out yourself.
As in most strategy games you have to develop technology, which there is quite a lot to do, to increase the size of your army and get to the better more powerfully units, you can also call main characters to help depending on your side and the mission.
Controls/Graphics
The game itself is pretty hard to control to begin with, but you soon get used to them and the camera angles can sometimes be annoying but the graphics are very good with some good cut scenes and good detail.
Multiplayer
The multiplayer adds a lot...

A mediocre Star Wars game at best
Advantages: Good representation of the tv series, kids will find some enjoyment in it
Disadvantages: Repetitive gameplay, loose controls, generally very rough around the edges
...There is no possible way that anybody reading this review has not at least heard of Star Wars. If you haven?t seen any of the six movies, then fair enough. I can comprehend that. But if you try to claim that you don?t even recognise the name, then I simply don?t believe you. Because Star Wars is one of, if not the, biggest movie franchise of all time. It is global phenomenon really, spawning not only the aforementioned six movies, but also swaths of memorabilia, books, toys, computer games and so on. The Star Wars war machine spans decades, and has millions of (sometimes worryingly devoted) fans. In short, the Star Wars name carries great power in the consumer world, allowing even the most mediocre products to sell in droves just because they have some relevance to lightsabers or the Force.
For those who aren?t aware, one of the latest...

Star Wars: The Waggle Unleashed
Advantages: Great story, controls may appeal to some
Disadvantages: Dated graphics, repetitive, cheats which can't be turned off, not much replay value
...around the story of Darth Vader's secret apprentice. You're tasked with destroying surviving Jedi for the first part of the game and the second part, well, I won't ruin it for you. It has been said that the story of this game is better than the Star Wars prequels and it shows. The story is the best part of the game, despite the whole new array of unfamiliar characters.
The gameplay is average, put bluntly. As you waggle the wiimote to swing your saber you can push forward the nunchuck to force push and..... in terms of motion control that's it. You press c to strike lightining, press another button to jump and hold down Z to grab objects. There is some motion control in terms of throwing objects but because you're always under fire, you won't be using this aspect often. The gameplay is fun, for about an hour. In fact I got bored with it by...
