A ROCK STEADY VIBE

Advantages: Fun, lightweight, a number of catchy songs
Disadvantages: Too many cooks spoiling the No Doubt broth?

...I was teased for buying this album a few years ago by my friends, who laughed at how tragically unhip No Doubt were. Indeed, I had always considered No Doubt to be a bit of what I call a 'nothing' band, a band who are pretty meaningless and who, if they were suddenly removed from existence (in some bizarre twist of fate), the music scene would not be affected a single iota. Look around and those kind of bands are everywhere - Turin Breaks, Placebo and Maroon 5 being two prominent examples. No Doubt were desperately uncool and credibility-free, troubling the charts with their soft rock anthem 'Don't Speak', while previously they had been at the forefront of one of the most repugnant genres in the entire history of modern music, in the form of American ska-punk. ...This is one of the better cooking programmes. At one stage there were so many cooking programmes that it became annoying. Well I really like this cooking programme, its presented by the ever entertaining and somewhat flamboyant Ainsley Harriot. Basically, two contestants have to go out and buy some ingredients up to £5, the two chiefs then have to cook something up for their allocated contestant in twenty minutes. Ainsley says ‘Ready, steady cook’ and they start cooking. It’s a very useful programme because the recipes are cheap and you can buy the ingredients at your local supermarket and it only takes twenty minutes to prepare. I, normally check teletext for the recipe if the dish they served up was good. They always manage to cook up something that looks very appetising, they really do a very good...

...Why is it that people always tell you how crap something is, WHEN YOU HAVE ALREADY BOUGHT IT ???!!.The Junior Ready Steady Cook Slush Maker is no exception. It was my daughter's 4th birthday in September and she had been begging for a 'slushy maker' for ages. I decided that as Ready Steady Cook was a well known brand in the cooking industry then anything from the toy range would be also very good. How dilusional I was ! I bought the offending toy from the Blackburn branch of Woolworth's for £14.99. The picture on the box shows a little boy wearing an apron clearly making a refreshing slush. Yup, you heard right, me and my gorgeous daughter were the first contestants of the new season. Let me tell you first hand about the show. It was a blast! ...The Ready Steady Cook Milkshake Maker is priced around £7.00 and can be bought from most department stores and supermarkets (ours came from Woolworths). It comes with an instruction leaflet and recipe booklet. The recipe leaflet includes basic milkshake recipes plus more interesting ones like hot chocolate froth. The unit comes ready to use and takes two AA batteries. It comprises of a sealed base unit which houses the motor, the jug for the milk and a lid. The base unit has a whisk attached which fits through a hole in the jug and twists to secure the two together. You do have to ensure that they are fixed together properly by twisting the jug on to the base unit until it stops. It is not fiddly and is easy to assemble in a few seconds. The Hold Steady - Boys and Girls in America

...The Band of the moment. A classic american bar band that exude a sense of loving what they do. With twinges of Springsteen when he was good and influences coming from the nineties grunge scene this is an album that fuses good time pop with some excellent guitar riffs. This coupled with the inciteful lyrics about the struggles of America's youth makes this album fun and thought provoking at the same time. Songs such as Party Pit and Massive Night tell stories of Drugs and Parties while songs such as First Night and Chips Ahoy show that not all vices are purely fun. Chips Ahoy shows that Gambling can ruin friendships and First Night tells the story that all things should be done in moderation. Tuneful and rocking at the same time is a rarity these days and on this album The Hold Steady pull it off. I would give some bad points...

...This dvd is a fantastic buy! It shows a real insight into the personality of the band. The dvd is such great entertainment, fun to watch and has an amazing tracklist not only from rock steady, but the best hits of all their previous albums. On top of this it includes brilliant bonus tracks, from no doubt when they first started making music, in a funny scene where Gwen Stefani is shaving all of the boy's heads. Also you can find hidden bonus tracks of their trip to Jamaica where they found their inspiration for the rock steady album. ...I must say I am not a person who really enjoys cokkery programs, I enjoy the naked chef but not many others apart from ready steady cook, I think it has got much better since Ainsley Harriet has taken over, not that I disliked Fern Britton at all, but Ainsley is so full of life and I think it has given the show a bit of a boost. The object of this show is 2 contestents bring in a bag of food, brought for under a fiver, then the 2 celebrity chefs have to make a meal out of it in 20 minutes, they are in teams called Green Peppers and Red Tomatoes I think the chef are extremley clever to come up with some of the things they do, they really use their imaginations and come up with some wonderfull reciepes.
