Time, we realised, to buy a new one. We decided to make our purchase of a new steamer at the BBC Good Food Show. After circling round and round the stands and displays several times ("too small, too big, doesn't look quite good enough, no WAY" are we paying that much!") we discovered the Tefal stand. We both fell in love with the Tefal Steam Cuisine Steamer. My comment was: "My god, it looks like something out of Star Trek voyager!" I wasn't steaming - I was quite chillied

Thane direct steam mop - doesn't do what it says !

Advantages: Heats to steam quickly - probably heat of kills germs as steam is hot
Disadvantages: Leaves floors very, wet. End up double cleaning everything - covers poor - waste of space!

...Not impressed with the H20 steam mop product, which falls far short of the detailed TV advert performance. On hard floors it leaves them sopping wet, not so much of a problem on a matt finish amtico type floor but with laminate, there's no way you could leave it . Ended up with twice the work, having to use my superwonder mop to wipe all excess water to leave floor with decent finish when dry. Even on clean carpet which is just being freshened to kill any germs that might be in the carpet, it seems to roll any dirt in almost fluff balls which then have to be vacuumed again when it dries. It seems to double the work involved whatever the surface. The covers provided are also pretty poor in fit and quality with a tendency to come off - difficult to put back on with heat. This steam cleaner is very compact the size of a very small cylinder vacuum cleaner and very light, I could lift it one handed no problem. We bought ours from Argos for £59.95. It came well packed but was hard to locate all of 15 accessory pieces as some were stuck to others. In the end I managed to locate everything. It has a 1.6L water tank that you fill with a jug and a small funnel. The water tank has a "child proof" cap that prevents you unscrewing when the tank is hot preventing burns but does make it a little tricky to open. Once you have filled the tank with water you plug the machine in and wait.
