Tesco Value Steam Iron

Advantages: cheap
Disadvantages: not so good for heavy creases

...Tesco Value Steam Iron I tend to try and never do any ironing whatsoever and it is mainly my partner who uses the iron for his work shirts. Most of my clothes contain enough stretch that once I put the clothes on the creases will stretch out and I am very cautious when the washing machine has finished and I get the clothes out and onto the line as quickly as possible so that as little creases as possible are put into the clothes. Also I find giving the clothes all a good shake before putting them on the line reduces any creases therefore reducing ironing to nil!! But the iron that we previously had was a very old one and after my accidentally knocking it off of the shelf it lives and smashing the plug to within an inch of its life it was my responsibility to buy the new one. I was pretty slack in rushing out to get one...

The best iron I have had

...We bought this after years of just having a little travel one it was when my partner changed jobs and had to wear a shirt and tie that we went and bought a better iron and picked up this one I think was on sale at the time which made us go for it. Go steaming through the ironing in half the time

Advantages: great finish, speed.
Disadvantages: easy to burn yourself, awkward for anything not straight up and down

...I discovered the power of the steam press while watching the infomercials on TV. I watched as impossibly beautiful slim American women folded jeans, curtains etc into multiple layers laid them on the system and then ironed them to perfection by using one finger to bring down the lid which would hit the item with 100lbs of steam, leaving it perfect. As usual I watched, I wanted, I wished but the prices on the infomercials were just so expensive usually around £300\£400 each. Even if the hype was true and this was to cut my ironing time in half it still seemed a little expensive to take a chance on when I had never seen a live demonstration. Thane direct steam mop - doesn't do what it says !

Advantages: Heats to steam quickly - probably heat of kills germs as steam is hot
Disadvantages: Leaves floors very, wet. End up double cleaning everything - covers poor - waste of space!

...Not impressed with the H20 steam mop product, which falls far short of the detailed TV advert performance. On hard floors it leaves them sopping wet, not so much of a problem on a matt finish amtico type floor but with laminate, there's no way you could leave it . Ended up with twice the work, having to use my superwonder mop to wipe all excess water to leave floor with decent finish when dry. Even on clean carpet which is just being freshened to kill any germs that might be in the carpet, it seems to roll any dirt in almost fluff balls which then have to be vacuumed again when it dries. It seems to double the work involved whatever the surface. The covers provided are also pretty poor in fit and quality with a tendency to come off - difficult to put back on with heat. Frustration Problems Ironed Out.

Advantages: Quick,takes a 1/4 of the time now. Simple.

Advantages: More steam then you can wish for

Double sided water level indicator so whether left or right handed you can easily see how much water you have left in the iron. It has a 40g/min variable steam which is a very high amount of steam and this makes ironing so much easier, there are 3 settings for steam on the iron, none if you want to dry iron or 1 if you want a medium amount or 2 if you want the maximum with constant steam and with this iron you do get a lot. 95g/min shot of steam is also is very powerful, this function is used if you have very stubborn...

The steam function works by pressing down a button on the right hand side of teh handle, and teh one of the left is the spray. The steam function is actually quite amusing, as it gives a sort of 'farting' sound - sorry, there's no other polite way of saying it. It's like a little belch! But quite effective, nonetheless. The other characteristic is that the edge and point of the soleplate are quite rounded. Some irons have quite a sharp shaped nose, so that you can really get into corners of a seam, but this one is quite blunt-shaped. I think it would be good for an elderly person, as it is easily maneourerable, and in a nice bright colour. It irons really well, but does not do the really sharp edges...
