FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

The Tao of the Tao of Steve
Advantages: realistic likeable characters
Disadvantages: predictable plot, and the box design
...I saw this film pretty much as soon as it came out on dvd (it had a different cover then) and it's such a hidden treasure that when I saw no-one had reviewed it I decided I had to.
********The story
This film is essentially about a thirty-something ambitionless nursery teacher (Dex) who coasts through life and has created his fusion philosophy of Buddhism lite, pop-philosophy and trying to be like all the cool 'Steves' in movies (Steve McQueen being the ultimate role model) which seems to bring him luck with the ladies despite his somewhat average looks: 'The Tao of Steve'. He spends many an afternoon playing frisbie golf and passing on his words of wisdom to his mates. I didn't quite keep his exact words in mind while watching, so I call upon the official film website for his essential philosophical statement drawn from Heidegger...

Steve Davies rules the Eighties
Advantages: Pulled snooker from pub sport to top television
Disadvantages: Cannot compete with the influx of new talent any more
...Steve Davies - 6 times world champion and absolute snooker king of the 80s! He can't play anymore, but boy can he commentate!
I used to enjoy watching Davies in the 80s when I was a young lad, my father being a keen watcher of snooker. There is no doubt that Davies was the king of modern snooker then, when the sport was just becoming accepted as a television sport. Lots of women apparently used to find him extremely attractive - with his tall thin demeanour, and the way he used to slide his cue back and forth between the dimple in his chin. Whatever turns them on!
The attraction of Davies was clearly that he was the young kid on the block in the 80s, and he took on what was largely a group of older established men who played slowly and drank lots of beer. That wasn't for Steve, he wanted to stay sober, sipping water...

Dog House Boogie - Seasick Steve
Advantages: Very different
Disadvantages: Too different?
...This is one of the latest CDs that i have bought, to add to my very small, but very diverse, collection of music. (One of the other recent additions being the "Back to the Old Skool" Garage CD.
The sound of seasick steve could not be further away from this if he tried. With most of his songs being played on a 3 string guitar. There is a lot of deep south country music influencing the sound. However it is also extremely unique. I have never head anything like it, and probably never will hear anything like it either.
I must admit though it definitely would not be for everyones tastes. I would advise looking on youtube at a couple of live performances. I first saw him on Later with Jools Holland, a few weeks ago. I thought he was amazing straight away, and very talented. I do think you have to see him perform to gain the full...

Steve is a Marvellous Big Time Performer
Advantages: Seasoned Campaigner.Inspirational
Disadvantages: Very Few
...British Javelin thrower,Steve Backley,at 33 years of age is very much a veteran, but continues to astound the athletics world with his performances. This seasoned performer usually manages somehow to rise to the big occasion and come up with a huge medal winning throw,
Steve who won medals at successive Olympic Games has regained his Commonwealth Games javelin crown at Manchester. He now has a superb hatrick of Commonwealth Games golds, having won in 1990,1994 and now 2002. He finished second in the javelin in the 1998 Commonwealth Games held in Kuala Lumpur.
In the Manchester stadium, Steve, was back to his very best. He won the competition with a first-round throw of 86.81 metres. Would you believe the second placed thrower, Scott Russell, the Canadian, was almost 8 metres back with a throw of 78.97 metres, while Nick...

Disadvantages: none!
...Steve Vai, Those of you who are familiar with this name, my respects! and for those who arent please let me have this opportunity to introduce you to the most amazing guitarist on the face of mother earth =).
ARTIST INTRODUCTION
Steve Vai, A Grammy Award winning guitarist, composer, vocalist, and record producer, was born in June 6, 1960 in Carle Place, New York.
At the age of 10, he started playing with some local bands and his passion for guitars kept growing more and more and in 1974 he took guitar lessons from another living legend also known as the guitar god by most, Joe Satriani.
Having done all that and at a very early age stil, Steve Vai mailed Frank Zappa a transcription of Zappa's " The Black Page", an instrumental song, along with a tape with some of Steve Vai's own guitar playing solos and parts. Zappa was so...

The best wrestler - Steve Austin
Advantages: The toughest wrestler without doubt
Disadvantages: Can be out of control with a lack of regard for authority
...Stone Cold Steve Austin. The mere mention of his name will bring any sold-out crowd to its feet in a crazed frenzy. Never before has the world of sports-entertainment seen a phenomenon like the one that Stone Cold Steve Austin has created. At any live event you attend, all you see is a sea of Austin 3:16. Why? 'Cause Stone Cold said so!
When the Texas Rattlesnake entered the Mecca Arena in Milwaukee, for the 1996 King Of The Ring, he never could have imagined that before the evening was through, he would change the entire face of the wrestling world. After beating the Bible-referencing Jake "The Snake" Roberts to become King Of The Ring, Austin accepted his crown, and upon doing so informed Roberts that "Austin 3:16 says I just whooped your ass!" With that simple phrase, Austin became the most popular superstar to ever compete in this...

Last Documentary of Steve Irwin
Advantages: title
Disadvantages: none
...The Oceans Deadliest is a documentary staring the late Steve Irwin (Crocodile Hunter) and Philipe Cousteau, grandson of Jaque Cousteau. In which both of them travel through the worlds oceans looking for the most dangerous of all.
It Shows all the different deadly creatures that live in the ocean, from the Blue ringed octupuse, which has the most potent venom of any octupuse, to cone shells, whos neurotoxins are used for medical purposes.
While mainly entertaining, this documentary cause you to sit there and go WOW. Steve catches a 7 foot long sea snake, the biggest ive ever heard or seen of, and i dive. He also gets close with some stone fish taking off his fin and putting his bare foot over one to show the spike reflex of the fish. While Steve was doing this, Philipe was in Africa in a shark cage swimming face to face with the a...

The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou
Advantages: Offbeat, performances, visuals.
Disadvantages: Just doesn't work at times, odd balance of drama and comedy.
...pretty much lost on me. While they are all interesting oddities, they are never engaging enough for me to want to return to them. From the trailer and the cast I was hoping that The Life Aquatic would be different, but alas not.
The hero of the adventure is Steve Zissou (Bill Murray), an oceanographer who sets out to kill a shark that killed his best friend. Along for the ride are his wacky crew (including a hilarious Willem Dafoe), his estranged wife (Angelica Huston), a journalist (Cate Blanchett), and a pilot who may or may not be Zissou's son (Owen Wilson). What follows is a series of vignettes following their adventure as they encounter pirates, participate in daring rescues and have run-ins with Zissou's "nemesis", fellow oceanographer Alistair Hennessey (Jeff Goldblum).
It's all whimsical enough, although perhaps a little too...
