Steve McQueen or Clive Owen

Advantages: Great twists and turns
Disadvantages: Watch it twice ?

...?Goodnight Steve McQueen? has to be ranked quite highly, I often rate books on how long it takes me to read them - I?m a slow reader but quite often I?ll have more than one book on the go at the same time, this one took me about 8 and a half hours last Monday - basically the length of a daytime midweek Train Journey between Southampton and Grimsby. Advantages: good characters, interesting plot with lots happening
Disadvantages: men aren't going to want to read it, but they should give it a try

...If you?re about my age, you?ll probably remember a band called Sleeper. They had a bit of success in the early 1990s, their biggest hit being ?Inbetweener?. I personally liked their first album, and not much else, and will freely admit to finding their singer, Louise Wener, an annoying, skinny tart. Fast forward a few years later, and I spot a review of a book called ?Goodnight, Steve McQueen? by the erstwhile Ms Wener. BULLITT STEVE MCQUEEN DVD (1968)

Advantages: THE VERY BEST CAR CHASE SEEN ON EARTH
Disadvantages: THE GREEN BEETLE

...Bullitt is the film, the Mustang for me is the show, when you talk about Car Chase's theres only one that really stands out for me yes I Know about Ronin, The Italian Job, French Connection, Taxi ect, all had great in car moments but Steve Mcqueen in a Mustang 68'gt on the streets of San Francisco in the 60's chasing the baddies is for me complete and utter octane. Steve Mcqueen plays Frank Bullitt who is a detective protecting a witness for a seedy trial which keeps things on edge and with the like's of some good performance's from Robert Vaughn, jaqueline Bissett ,Robert Duvall everything looks right. Bullitt did win an Oscar but sadly not for the Car chase action but for best Film Editing which brings me back to the Great Chase, if you have watched it i.e the chase scene as much as me (probably over 500 times and wearing out...

The Concept of Steve McQueen

Advantages: Good tunes
Disadvantages: Looses the atmosphere of the original

The CD sleeve has two lives, one as a bunch of (Admittedly verging on the art student at times) text about Lalo, the Film, Steve etc. and another as a poster of Robert Vaughn and Steve McQueen looking moody in a scene from the film. Nice idea having the poster but it would really annoy me not having the sleeve for the CD. As there are eighteen tracks and quite a few ‘version’ (The guitar solo crops up FIVE times for example) tracks I will avoid doing a track by track but just talk about the album in general. The first thing that struck me as I wilfully jammed the CD into my HiFi is that the re-recording seems to have lost a lot...

...I saw this film pretty much as soon as it came out on dvd (it had a different cover then) and it's such a hidden treasure that when I saw no-one had reviewed it I decided I had to. ********The story This film is essentially about a thirty-something ambitionless nursery teacher (Dex) who coasts through life and has created his fusion philosophy of Buddhism lite, pop-philosophy and trying to be like all the cool 'Steves' in movies (Steve McQueen being the ultimate role model) which seems to bring him luck with the ladies despite his somewhat average looks: 'The Tao of Steve'. Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. Steve Davies rules the Eighties

Advantages: Pulled snooker from pub sport to top television
Disadvantages: Cannot compete with the influx of new talent any more

...Steve Davies - 6 times world champion and absolute snooker king of the 80s! He can't play anymore, but boy can he commentate! I used to enjoy watching Davies in the 80s when I was a young lad, my father being a keen watcher of snooker. There is no doubt that Davies was the king of modern snooker then, when the sport was just becoming accepted as a television sport. Lots of women apparently used to find him extremely attractive - with his tall thin demeanour, and the way he used to slide his cue back and forth between the dimple in his chin. Whatever turns them on! The attraction of Davies was clearly that he was the young kid on the block in the 80s, and he took on what was largely a group of older established men who played slowly and drank lots of beer.
