IBIS Stevenage
Advantages: Food, Price
Disadvantages: Service, Room quality,
...I was starting a new job in the Stevenage region about a month ago and needed somewhere to stay so it seemed logical for me to select somewhere of reasonable price. Ibis seemed to fit that bill - It was £47 a night with continental breakfast being £5.50. I booked in for a 3 night stay.
From the outside it just seems to be a standard chain hotel, nothing spectacular. Expectation was that it would be fairly minimalist but clean and friendly.
The guy at check in was very friendly and helped me register my details - he was consciencious and helpful. A credit to the company.
However this is where the pleasantries stopped. The lift up to the rooms was rickety and felt like it was going to stop working at any moment - it was ancient.
After the little lift scare I found my room. I entered the room and all seemed fine until I looked...

Stevenage - hmmm not really that great
Advantages: Great womens shopping
Disadvantages: theres plenty
...I havent written a review in a while as I?ve been busy with school and other stuff but im back and certain this will be the best yet. Well maybe!
I have lived in Stevenage all of my life so I think I know a fair bit about the place. there are plenty of pros but I have to say there are also plenty of cons. On a website I visited recently Stevenage was named a chav town and I think I?d have to agree.
Basic info:
Stevenage is a medium sized town in the county of Hertforshire just north of London. it was the first new town to be designated under the New Towns Act of 1946, and now has a population of over 74,000. we have our own football team Stevenage Borough FC and a stadium for their matches.
Shopping:
Being a young 16 year old girl I think the shopping is pretty good. However i'm sure if I was in a different age group or was...

Thistle hotel stevenage
Advantages: Clean, nice food
Disadvantages: No lesiure activities
...I stayed at this hotel for a period of 6 weeks last summer as I was on a course with work down south.
The hotel is situated in a small village setback from the road in a secluded position. It is about a five minute drive into Stevenage which makes it a convienient place to commute from.
Reception
On entering the hotel the reception desk is straight ahead of you and is manned continually 24 hours a day with very friendly polite staff. Numerous leaflets are available for local tourist attractions and time tables for the local buses/trains. The hotel also offers a free mini bus service so if you fancy going to a local bar or restaurant you can do at no expense.
Room
The bedroom was quite small but you did have enough room to walk about without banging your legs on everything! The room contained a trouser press, table and chairs...

Castaway Kids, Stevenage Herts
Advantages: Very safe, fun
Disadvantages: Gets very packed and very hot
...Castaway Kids is a huge indoor activity centre for kids aged 0 to 11. It is on the Roaring Meg Retail Park, in Stevenage Herts. It's quite a walk from the town centre, so it's best to get there by car. It's about 5 mins from the A1 (M) exit for Knebworth. Stevenage is about 30 miles north of London.
~Opening Times~
It is open 7 days a week. Opening hours are 9.30 am to 6.30 pm, with the last admittance at 5pm. You are supposed to get an hr and half play time, but it's pretty flexible - you can leave earlier if you wish, or stay a little longer if they are not too busy.
~Price~
Under 2's = £3.20
Under 5's= £4.60
Over 5's = approx £5 (I can't remeber exactly,sorry!)
When you pay at reception, your child has to take off their shoes, and the member of staff will store them for you and give you a key for them. You also...

...PREMIER TRAVEL INN - STEVENAGE CENTRAL
------------------------------------------------------------------
Located just outside of the centre of Stevenage and within a five minute walk of the Leisure Park, you could say that this Premier Travel Inn has an ideal location. This only holds true if you actually like Stevenage!
Friendly check-in staff are available on the reception throughout the night and when you do check in you will be given an electronic room card which is standard at all major uk hotel chains now for security purposes.
My stay at this hotel was for two nights and the cost of this was £65 per night. My arrival was quite late (9pm-ish) on a Sunday night ahead of a training course on the Monday morning. The decision to stay in a hotel was rushed onto me by the fact that I couldn't seem to find a decent B and B...

Broadhall Way An Away Fans Perspective
Advantages: See above
Disadvantages: See above
...As an away supporter my view will be different to a 'Boro regular, but will be more useful to your average away fan.
Stevenage's recent rise to fame prompted a revamp of what was a small ground, but is now ready for the Football League, should it get there. One of the more 'fussy' clubs, it sticks to the rules. I feel like I have to wipe my feet when I go in, and not be criticle of their players . It doesn't stop me, mind.
This is an easy one to get to. Just off the A1 and signposted! A large car park opposite the ground is a relief, as no wasting time looking for a place to park is required. Crossing the busy dual carriageway is about as difficult as it gets.
It is always segregated. To get to the away section you turn right out of the car park, cross the road and turn left to around the back of the main stand. The away...

Cheap price, poor service
Advantages: Cheap, good location
Disadvantages: No free parking, poor service
...My husband and I stayed in the IBIS hotel in Stevenage town centre for one night in June.
***Getting to the hotel
The location was in a convenient location for us as we wanted to stay in that area as we were visiting relatives, and we thought £35 for both of us for one night was a pretty good deal.
The map and directions to the hotel provided on IBIS Stevenage's own website (http://www.ibishotel.com/ibis/fichehotel/gb/ibi/2794/fichehotel.shtml) were not the most clear, and, not knowing Stevenage town centre's layout, we did get a little bit lost on the way there, but it only added about 5 minutes to our journey.
There is no parking provided by the hotel itself but it is located very close to a multi-storey car park, and the prices there were cheap (I think we paid £1.20 for one night). Not ideal however if you have a lot...

How bad can Kwik Fit get?
Advantages: There's plenty of branches (if that's a positive !!)
Disadvantages: Rude, arrogant and unhelpful staff. certainly not 'Kwik'
...I had the mis-fortune of having to visit 3 Kwik-Fit branches this week - and the service (or lack of it) was equally poor at all of them.
Initially I visited the Stevenage branch to get my front brake pads changed. After about 20 minutes of waiting I was finally informed, by the under stress manager, that he was too busy to do it there as he only had 1 brake technician and suggested I drive across to the Hitchin branch.
20 minutes later (at 4:10pm) I was in the Hitchin branch only to be told, by the very unhelpful manager, that it was too late to get the parts so I would have to come back tomorrow. It was only 20 minutes after my Stevenage experience - surely the manager there could have told me not to bother wasting my time driving over at that time of day?
I gave up on the brakes and got them done at the main dealer. Imagine...

Mat as well try it
Advantages: reasonable prices
Disadvantages: limited range
...brands such as: Wranglers, Wonderbra, Calvin Klein, and many more.
We recently joined at a store in Stevenage, and did manage to get a few bargains. This included: A lady denim jacket for £9.00, and a pack of 6 socks for £2.99. The range wasn’t that great to be honest, and probably wouldn’t appeal to the younger generation, as the fashion is not that great.
While Matalan does offer some goods at very reasonable prices, some goods do not meet up to this criterion. That said, these things aren’t any dearer than normal high street retailers, so it is worthwhile visiting the store anyway....

Nando's - Cheap quality & expensive. It used to be so different!
Advantages: Peri Peri sauce, bottomless drinks
Disadvantages: Cheap, factory farmed chicken, expensive, poor customer service
...Me and my girlfreind have always been great fans of Nandos, but recently the restaurant in Stevenage has gone really down hill. During the last three times we have been, we noticed that as well as putting their prices up, the chicken was gristley, fatty & generally of very poor quality - the last time we couldn't even finish our meals as it tasted like Sh*t & haven't been back since.
I have been in touch with Nando's customer service to complain but they have thusfar ignored all my emails.
Clearly they have switched to more intensively farmed chicken, which as well as being unethical, makes the chicken taste awful as the chickens have no room to move.
With that in mind, we have to give Nando's two thumb's down as they are now little better than KFC. We are voting with our feet until they hopefully improve.
It will be a real shame if...
