The weird standing stones at Callanish

Advantages: Free to visit, very unusual
Disadvantages: Remote location

...From an archaeological and historical point of view the standing stones at Callanish are of equal importance to Stonehenge. Yet whilst the latter recently received over 36,000 visitors in a single day for the summer solstice (21st June 2009) Callanish receives only a few thousand visitors every year. This is due entirely to Callanish's location on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides, which is just about as remote as you can get within the British Isles. I have always known about the existence of the standing stones at Callanish but only took a real interest in them earlier this year when I was planning my visit. I have seen Stonehenge hundreds of times, my brother used to live in the next village, and even now it never fails to turn my head, but they have become far too commercial for my liking in recent years. The sheer remoteness...

Meet the stone family

Advantages: Easy to watch and an array of well known actors
Disadvantages: It isn't the most interesting film you'll ever watch

...I bought the family stone for one reason only and that was because the cast was a mix of well known faces! I know I should look for more than this but, being a Sex and the City fan I am always keen to watch anything with Sarah Jessica Parker in! Along with a variety of others who I have seen in other films and enjoyed then it was surely to be a winner wasn't it? Released in 2005 the film was written and directed by Thomas Bezucha. The story: The stone family are very close knit and celebrate Christmas together every year. When the favourite son, Everett, decides to bring his girlfriend Meredith with him to meet his family it doesn't quite go to plan! He has plans to ask his mother for his grandmother's ring to propose to Meredith but, his family pretty much take an instant dislike to her and find Meredith to be too uptight...

Howling Stones.

Advantages: GREAT READ
Disadvantages: NOTHING !!!

...Howling Stones. I am a huge Alan dean Foster fan and here is one of his books from his Commonwealth series. You are transported to the lush tropical world of Senisran ( a bit like the Maldives but over the whole planet ) where the islands are all paradises and the seas are vivid greens and blues. The two main characters to this story are Pulickel and Fawn who have been tasked with the job of getting the natives of this world to sign a treaty with the commonwealth. The natives however are unconcerned with the treaty and seem naively unaware of the protection a treaty with the commonwealth could provide from other more malevolent and untrustworthy species who also live in and around the universes. chief among these are the Ann, an insectoid species equal and on par with the commonwealth but a very agressive species...

Rebellion Brewery - No need to revolt though!

Advantages: It's like a wee-up in a brewery but better!
Disadvantages: Short Tour that doesn't move!

...that prefer motorway driving could take the M40 leaving at junction 4 and follow the A404 to come into Marlow from the other direction. In my ever-constant quest to enlarge my collection of trade marked beer glasses (see http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/beerglasscollector/ for proof! (Don't forget to sign the guest book!)) I had found out about the brewery from a good friend and the fact that as part of the brewery tour you received a free etched glass. Needing to investigate further I arranged to make my way down to Marlow for the next available open evening. Every first Tuesday of the month, the Rebellion Beer Company opens the gates of the brewery to the public for what their website calls "Evening Brewery Tours". Officially the opening time is ½ past 7 (19:30) but we arrived at just gone 7 in order to avoid the potential queues and ensure...

Stone Me!

Advantages: Pop music with a soul edge, which makes a nice change
Disadvantages: Too many ballads

...It's an oft repeated story. An attractive blonde teenager with a great voice is discovered singing on a talent show. She is handed a record deal and releases an album full of songs she hasn't had a hand in writing. We've heard this one so many times before. Yawn, yawn, and yawn. But as she herself sings on "Super Duper Love", "wait a minute, wait a minute". This is not the story of some bubblegum pop act, discovered by Simon Cowell or Stock, Aitken and Waterman, performing the same tired style of music for the same audiences and destined to vanish before they've reached their twenties. The only comparison that can be drawn between Joss Stone and the likes of Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Billie Piper is that they all have blonde hair. You may, at first glance, think that Joss Stone is going to be like one of those acts...

Reclaiming The Stone Of Destiny

Advantages: Gentle comedy
Disadvantages: A bit twee in parts

...The Stone Of Destiny is the film account of the story of the rescue of the Stone Of Destiny. The stone, also known as the Stone of Scone, is symbolic as it was used to crown Scottish monarchs. It was stolen from Scone by Edward the first in 1296 and has been used in the coronation of British monarchs ever since. Many saw its location as a symbol of Scottish oppression and appealed for the stone to be brought home again but powers that be insisted that it stay put. In 1950 Ian Hamilton (Charlie Cox), a law student at Glasgow University and Scottish Nationalist decided to go to London to claim the stone back. Obviously this presented a few problems, firstly the stone was fixed to the Coronation Chair within Westminster Abbey and obviously it is a huge heavy stone so is not easy to transport or hide. He couldn't carry out this feat...

the rolling stones 2008 original soundtrack

Advantages: great
Disadvantages: their are some filler tracks, and some tracks good guitar and singing quality is not so good

...rolling stones shine a light this compact disc was performed by the rolling stones at the beacon theatre in new york. i believe that not all the songs contained on the compact disc were all taken from the film; i think that some of the songs were taken from different live events from the bands most recent american tour. the album has two discs and contains twenty two tracks, two of which are non musical as you will find out. 1 jumping jack flash 4:22 -being the first track on this compact disc is of much interest as it has always been one of my favourites. in the track the rolling stones are introduced to the stadium by the master of ceremonies, and later martin scorsese is heard saying "first song". the track begins by the introduction guitar notes from keith richards and seconds later some soft drum beats from charlie watts...

Get stoned

Advantages: Tiny, lightweight and easy to use.
Disadvantages: no screen and no mains adapter

...I had to buy a new mp3 player after having my old one stolen. So I read some reviews on here and discovered the Creative Labs Zen stone. My budget was only around £30- £50 and this came in at a very reasonable £30 a year ago. The first thing that caught my eye about it was the size. It is absolutely tiny! It measures up at only 5x2.5x1cm. Definitely the smallest MP3 player I have ever come across. The only problem with it being so small is that there is no screen. So unfortunately it is not possible to search through a list of your music collection. However there is a button that allows you to skip forward a folder at a time. So you just need to save music in folders by artist or genre and then easily search through them until you get to the one you want to listen to. The set up is really simple. Most of the buttons are arranged...
