Castor oil as a skin cleanser (OCM)
Advantages: Cheap, great for your health, natural, can adjust quantities in skin care
Disadvantages: None really - some people may be sensitive to it, but it's rare
...Hello! This review is mainly of Castor Oil as a skin cleanser - I'll be explaining how its believed to work, how to use it, and what the results are like. This method has been spreading through alot of natural living communities as it's had such positive results!
What it is
---------------
OCM stands for Oil Cleansing Method - a method using oil (primarily Castor Oil and Extra Virgin Olive Oil but you can adjust the oil types to suit you {see below}) to cleanse and moisturise the skin. You make the mixture yourself, either in a bowl for single applications, or in a glass bottle if you use the method daily.
How it works
--------------------------
"When cleansing and moisturizing your skin, it is imperative that you keep in mind that oil disolves oil. Do not be afraid of applying oil to your face. Oil, alone, will not cause...

Ikea Step Stool: Step up to the mark
Advantages: Sturdy, fairly attractive, does its job and encourages imagination
Disadvantages: A choice of colours would be nice
...I took a trip to Ikea to buy a storage unit for my 1 year old son's bedroom and while I was there thought I'd get a couple of these steps to help him reach the taps etc when he's a little older. I would have thought you could get them everywhere but actually from my research online I couldn't find these small, cheap versions anywhere obvious hence the forward-thinking purchase whilst I was in IKEA.
They cost £1.99 each and are fairly attractive in a matt white colour with non-slip blue 'bobbles' on the top and strips round the bottom edge to stop the stool slipping. They are a cheap, in-offensive, sturdy product which will perform the function they are meant for, or so I thought ...
... when we got home it turned out that I was completely wrong, I would never have guessed that a £1.99 stool could bring such enjoyment to a young...

My granny recommended Castor Oil
Advantages: empty bowels, shiny hair
Disadvantages: yucky!
...Castor Oil, made from the pressed seeds of the plant ricinus communis, is a yellowish thick oil, available for little money from your chemist.
When I had my first split ends - my granny gave me a bottle of castor oil.
When I had constipation - granny just pointed to the castor oil.
Since over 30 years (when my first split end appeared) I always have a bottle of castor oil in the house. Just in case.
Does it work? Well... It definitely cured my constipation a few times. But it took ages until I was able to swallow this horrible stuff. And nowadays I'd rather eat spinach or a senacot pill than a tablespoon of the unpleasant castor oil. Only in very hard cases I'll go and fetch my hidden bottle.
Granny's sister used castor oil each week as a hair-cure. I must admit, she had beautiful shiny hair until she popped her cloggs...

KILLER PLANTS IN YOUR GARDEN
Advantages: Medicinal benefits from the oil
Disadvantages: The seed pods can kill
...Beware of the Castor oil Plant. Just one seed will kill a small child. It is best not to even keep the plant as a houseplant as the leaves are also slightly toxic. So if you have a castor oil plant in your house or garden and small children visit you are best to give it away. The plant is listed as poisonous with The Royal Horticultural Society
Children are naturally curious so don't expect them not to taste different leaves even if they have been told not to. It is part of a young childs curiosity to explore new textures and tastes so nibbling at plants in the garden is quite normal. My own son ended up in hospital due to eating a few deadly nightshade berries which were growing in our hedge so this will explain why I really think any dangerous plants are removed before it is TOO LATE.
If you do have this plant in your garden...

Everyone loves a stool!
Advantages: Christopher Guest film that might have passed you by
Disadvantages: Dreadful ditties stuck in your head!
...of the songs are insidiously catchy (not unlike those of Spinal Tap), and don't be surprised if you find yourself humming a ditty about stools (Blaine being "the stool capital of the world!" during its industrial heyday). The sheer audacity of Guest in subjecting his audience to this dreadful play in its complete glory, is why this film is to me truly great. It is cringe inducing, yet also funny and lighthearted.
Like subsequent Guest films, the delights of this one are all in tiny, hard to describe moments based on comedy improvisation. The sometimes gleefully juvenile humour is sold by the deadpan delivery, the characters all feel real. The subtle moments that might pass you by on first viewing (Corky's attentiveness to the young mechanic, Dr.Pearl's wife's "um's", Parker Posey's every line), really do make this a cult classic. Unlike his more...

Stool Samples at the Ready!
Advantages: Virtuous recipes for those with strong willpower.
Disadvantages: Life's too short for Buckwheat Groats and Alfalfa!
...watched it when there hasn't been anything else worth watching on the box. Anyway, I have watched the programme enough times to understand the format and therefore the raison d'etre for this book being produced. Each episode features an amiable, but less than svelte, member of the general public. They are met by the extremely skinny Dr Gillian McKeith who arrives at their house and lays out their entire food consumption for the past week on a table. She then chastises them on how unhealthy it all looks. Matters deteriorate from thereon as Dr McKeith requests the poor participant to provide a stool sample (thankfully not on camera) which is sent to the laboratory to be analysed. Next, Dr McKeith provides the participant with a meal planner consisting of lots of fresh fruit, vegetables, nuts etc. Miraculously the participant manages to...

Four Boys on Stools.
Advantages: Immaculate presentation of all their hits.
Disadvantages: A little short and underwhelming, without any real "Wow!"-factor.
..., and we all twiddled our thumbs until they popped up somewhere else.
The main problem for me was that because of the slow nature of their ballads, they were often quite static on the stage. The staging and lighting were top notch, but in a crowd of ten thousand, four lads sitting on stools or lounging on a staircase didn't really get the blood pumping. They were far more watchable when they were doing more upbeat numbers, working the stage to it's full advantage.
Then it was over, almost before it had begun. The encore was a little stale, the lads rising up out of the stage on four individual cranes. Nice idea, but they seemed so terrifed at the prospect of toppling off thirty feet into the audience that they stood stock still and rigid while singing. Then they sank back into the stage again, and my first Westlife experience was over...

Simply the best Cream Tea in Dorset
Advantages: The best scones in Dorset
Disadvantages: Becoming very popular and therefore busy
...We happened on this place around twelve months ago and since then it has become one of our favourites.
The Ducking Stool Tea Rooms can be found half way down Ducking Stool Lane in Christchurch. The name is derived from the ducking stool (a medieval form of punishment for nags and scolds) - a restored version of which can be found at the end of the lane.
Ducking Stool Lane runs parallel with Castle Street behind the Kings Arms Hotel (presently closed and awaiting approval of planning permission for redevelopment) - access is via Millhams Street, which is itself accessed via High Street (adjacent to Carphone Warehouse) or Castle Street (Between the new Thai Restaurant and Estate Agents) - there is a short cut through between Lloyds Bank and Ye Old George Inn on the corner of Castle Street and High Street or alternatively you can...

CASTOR OIL A DANGEROUS OLD WIVES TALE
Advantages: Can be used in packs to treat a variety of disorders
Disadvantages: NOT TO BE USED IN PREGNANCY
...Castor oil has been for many years been given to a wide range of people for a number of reasons from relieving constipation to soothing arthritis. The castor oil plant has large palm-shaped leaves with 7-9 portions, cluster-like blossoms and prickly fruits, each carrying 3 seeds. All parts are poisonous, especially the beans. Castor beans affect all animals and humans. Even one of them may be sufficient to cause death. They contain some of the strongest toxins of our planet's flora: the alkaloid ricinin and the toxalbumin ricin, the latter being a plant lectin, or protein, more toxic even than strychnos and cyanides. What is more, it has the ability to accumulate in the body until the lethal dose is reached. The symptoms then are nausea and vomiting, stomachache, bloody diarrhea, headache, cold sweat, sleepiness, disorientation, fever...

Hozelock Garden Kneeler/Stool
Advantages: Many uses, indestructable, extremely useful
Disadvantages: Bulky for storage
...I have had my Hozelock Garden Kneeler/Stool for more years than I can remember - at least 16 years but possibly quite a few more. I really don't know how I would manage without it. Moulded from weatherproof plastic it provides a padded kneeling cushion which is framed on either side with hand rails that provide invaluable support when standing up from a kneeling position - an aid which really comes into its own as the years progress!! The kneeler is not only invaluable when weeding and planting but when reversed provides a useful stool or even footrest. I find this particularly helpful when 'potting' plants and also a useful aid when painting the lower half of fencing.
My son has also found the kneeler invaluable when laying slabs and block paving; indeed there are many occasions when we could do with more than one kneeler! Being made...
