A watch for the 21st century

...I once took my battery operated watch to a well known high street jeweller to have the battery replaced, I was told it would only take 5 minutes & cost £4.99, it actually took 30 minutes & cost me £9.99 as they had problems with the battery. When I took it home the small stop watch function wouldn't work & the built in alarm didn't work either. I took it back & explained it was OK before they touched it, but they refused to accept liability so I was left with a watch that never worked properly again. On another occasion another jeweller presented with a different watch stated that the movement was faulty & would cost approx £75.00 to replace, I left the shop & purchased a battery for 99p from Maplin, fitted it myself (this one had a small slot on the back to access the battery) & has worked perfectly since. Go up the ramp and stop

Advantages: good addition to a wooden railway

Amazon say the RRP Iis £12.71 My 6 year old grandson has quite a lot of brio track including this stop and ramp track; he has had this train set since he was 3. He is not playing with it as much as he was but his little sister plays with it now. Brio train sets are fantastic the wooden trains and tracks well made will last a long time. When my grandchildren have finished playing with them, I expect my daughter will sell them on for a good price, or most likely keep them for the next generation in nearly mint condition although they have been played with for many hours. The brio stop and ramp track just adds a little more interest to the track...

Having recently sorted the garden out I must have disturbed a nest and found that I had an army of ants walking not only outside my front door but also in a line across my living room. The environment friendly watch

It started mis-behaving, require constant battery changes, (a sure sign that the watch is dying), and frequently stopping whenever I fly. So last Christmas, I decided to buy myself an eco-driven citizen watch. An eco-drive watch uses light energy to run itself. The light source can be sun (solar) or an incandescent lamp (such as in an office environment). The watch uses a solar panel, in this case, its the face dial, to convert light into electrical energy which is stored in a special energy cell. Night Watch and Day Watch; two reviews in one!

Advantages: Two exceptional and highly original fantasy novels
Disadvantages: Not books for those looking for mindless entertainment; these are thinking fantasy novels

...give an example of what I mean by this, the original story often left me guessing and had me itching to know what was going to happen next. By contrast, in this book I found myself unable at times to stop reading, drawn into turning the page not only by the exceptional writing style, but also by the way that the plot relentlessly gathers pace at times, with the stake obviously higher than they have been at any point previously. I criticised the first book for its relatively weak ending, but can level no such accusations at The Day Watch. The final encounter in the book feels every bit as epic as the fantastic plot deserves, and whilst ultimately it may feel a little more subdued than the traditional ending to fantasy novels, it ties everything together perfectly and concludes the novel in a way that is incredibly satisfying. Charming little watch

Advantages: charges constantly when its in the light
Disadvantages: i work at night and usually dont see the light

..., making it fully customisable (how many watches can you say that about?), With also having the second one the charms arent as overloaded as they were and I have got more used to mixing and matching them. The idea of the ecodrive is that the watches dont need batteries because they are solar powered, and that during normal use the watch with charge itself up as your using it so should not stop, but as I work in a club and dont tend to be up and about during daylight hours at the moment this is a claim I'll be testing to its limits. Citizen claim they should last around 10 years before the solar battery needs replacing. In the 18 months since I got the first of my ecodrive watches it hasn't once slowed or stopped despite spending fairly long periods put away in its box, I guess the claims that it remains charged for a long time is accurate...

...I'm Watching You. Karen Rose. Not an Audio book Ciao! I do like reading and generally have at least two books on the go. The first will always be a 'learning book', maybe related to therapy, or even saxophones, it does not matter as long as I glean something. The second is always fiction, and I love horror, thrillers and crime quite a lot. So not having heard of this author, when I saw the book in Waterstones I thought I would give it a go. This is not a quick read. At 660 pages it aint gonna be over in a day or two, and that's okay because it takes a little digesting. It isn't exactly slow, but I have found I like to read 30 or 40 pages then stop. The plot is consistent and not that complex. It is essentially the story of the police trying to catch a vigilante killer. That being said, the plot is almost secondary to...

A prophecy of balance and that one day there will be 'one' who tips the balance and then the light or the dark will rule the earth protectors of the light fight against followers of the dark in order for control. They are supernatural beings who can enter the twilight and draw their power from there. Anton is a member of the nightwatch and it is he who will be the main character of this film. The 'other' or the 'one' makes an appearance and soon all hell on earth is breaking loose. Anton proves to have more power than anyone thought. The ending is as expected considering this is the first of a trilogy The special effects are very good and the plot never slackens right from the battle scenes set in 1342 right up until, well... the ending, no reveals sorry. the dialogue...

Watching Me, Watching You

Advantages: Elegant yet robust looking, a good size for my tiny wrists, keeps good time
Disadvantages: Difficult to adjust, tiny day window, needed repairs to the crown

...Common sense would tell you that a watch is a device for telling time. It's a bonus if they look decent, but ultimately, what you want is one that will keep good time, that fits, that you can read easily and operate without any problems. It therefore does boggle my mind that one can pay hundreds, even thousands of pounds for a simple timekeeping device. Furthermore, it baffles me that the most expensive watches are not the most accurate. You see, quartz watches are typically the most accurate, however, the most expensive watches are 17 jewel. I have for years been happy wearing cheaper quartz watches, usually made by Seiko. These typically retail for around £100. However, a couple of years ago, I had a yearning to own a more expensive, slightly prestige watch. I cannot afford the likes of Rolex, and couldn't justify buying one myself...
