Advantages: Good family entertainment Disadvantages: A bit too long in it's present form, could do with some new dances
...StrictlyComeDancing Series
Saturday night - you're either in the Strictly camp or X-Factor. In our house the girls watch Strictly on BBC 1 and the boys watch X-Factor (ITV)and then we catch up on Sunday with whatever we haven't watched.
What's It All About?
For those people who have lived in a bubble for the last 6 years, StrictlyComeDancing is a dance competition, where professional dancers are teamed up with celebrities. It is presented by Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly. The celebrities are made up of sports personalities, actors and actresses and presenters etc, both young and more mature.
Each week (we are now in week 4) each couple perform either a latin or ballroom dance. There are four judges that offer constructive criticism and then score each dance out of 10. In the later stages when there are less couples...
Advantages: Enjoyable, family viewing, you get emotionally drawn to the performers Disadvantages: Goes on for 3 months, time consuming
...I know when Autumn has arrived as my television viewing suddenly has a regular structure. On Sunday evenings after the children have been put to bed, I watch American football while reading the paper. On Saturdays however, there is a more genteel programme on BBC1 to watch - StrictlyComeDancing. This year however, not only do I have the additional option of watching a daily half hour update in the BBC2 chat show 'StrictlyComeDancing - It Takes Two', but the weekly results show is shown on Sunday, meaning there is no day when I can't get my 'Strictly' fix.
= THE CONCEPT OF THE SHOW =
Various male and female 'celebrities' are given the opportunity to dance with professional dancers in both ballroom and Latin dance disciplines. In this current series (the 5th), there are 14 celebrities (and professionals), with one...

Review of StrictlyComeDancing
Advantages: Full of sparkles and fun Disadvantages: The Sunday show can be a bit repetitvie
...I started watching StrictlyComeDancing a couple of series ago. I didn't think I would enjoy watching people dancing around but now I can't get enough! Every year I say that I am going to take a dancing class but never get round to it!
This series has started off really strong and I think it is going to be a very close competition. I think the weakest people have now been eliminated and I am looking forward to the men and women joining together next week - I am sure it will be a fantastic show!
Although many people say that Bruce Forsyth ruins the show, I completly disagree! At the end of the day it is a Saturday night entertainment show so there are bound to be some dodgy jokes! In any case Bruce's segments are only a very small section of the show. I for one cannot imagine anyone else presenting Strictly!
The Sunday show is...
Advantages: Traditional TV Disadvantages: Too much hype
...feelers for an aged 50 plus newsreader after they recently lost three very attractive older birds for three auto-cuties.
'It Takes two' is the catch up programme where the surprisingly elfin and sexy Claudia Winkleman flashes her gorgeous eyes for thirty minutes as they take you backstage of the show during the week. The judges also come on to talk sequins and the show intrudes on rehearsals etc to talk tempo and toe pointing. Head judge Len Goodman does a weekly bit called 'Len Masterclass' (a man with that ambiguous sexuality appeal that was born to advertise the Corby Trouser Press) where he dances with sexy Claudia. Craig Revel-Horwood, a kind of camp Mark Kermode, does the 'Mid Week Report' and Arlene Phillips is invited back on the Friday show to do some panel critic.
It airs two nights a week and only one in Scotland, the having...

Review of StrictlyComeDancing
Advantages: Entertaining, family fun, interesting, good mix of celebrities. Disadvantages: None.
...My parents and grandparents were all dancers and took lessons in ballroom and old time dancing for years. As a child, I spent many a happy evening or afternoon with my grandparents and lots of other people of their generation, watching them dance in various halls and sometimes trying myself. But I never took any lessons myself.
When the first series of StrictlyComeDancing appeared on TV, I didn't really watch it. I didn't avoid it, but I just never ended up on that channel at that time. Over the next couple of series, I watched the odd programme or two, but this series is the first time I have followed it from the start and really got into it.
So what exactly is StrictlyComeDancing and is it any good?
THE FORMAT
The main programmes of StrictlyComeDancing are on BBC 1 on Saturday evening and Sunday evening - usually...

Review of StrictlyComeDancing
Advantages: Fun, Great If You Are A Fan Disadvantages: Fast Paced, A Little Confusing At Times.
...Having always watched and enjoyed Strictlycomedancing on the TV, throughout all of its past series, it is little wonder that a fitness DVD working on the principle of 'Strictly' has appeared on the market.
After Christmas, many of us are feeling the pressure to loose weight and feel great and of course, we buy these DVD's, use them once and then pack them off away as a big mistake, so will StrictlyCome Dancercize be any different?
I have to admit, this is the first fitness DVD I have ever bought. As a child and teenager, I had danced tap, ballet, modern, jazz and a bit of ballroom too. The pull of this DVD was that I could learn to dance again (after 9-10 years) and I would be getting fit at the same time. I bought this for £12.99 in my local Morrisons supermarket, but it is freely available everywhere.
ABOUT THE DVD...
Advantages: Good for professional Dancers , People who like a challenge Disadvantages: Hard to pick up the moves!
...I have never been into the whole 'StrictlyComeDancing' thing , and to be honest never got what the whole fuss was about. However when I heard that the show had a 'fitness' DVD out. It came at the right time ; After all the mince pies and chocolate I'd munched on throughout last year's festive season , I was quite desperate to get back in shape. After looking into all the 'recently-released' fitness DVDs , this particular was not my first choice. That is until I read a review in a magazine , along with an interview with the 'stars' and that is what changed my mind ; this DVD seemed to be the most genuine out of the lot and so I bought it!
As soon as my copy arrived through the post , I ripped through the packaging and placed the DVD in my DVD player , and I was ready to go.
I love the cover of the DVD ; it's so glitzy...
Advantages: Superb dancing. Disadvantages: The runner up should have won.
...THE FINAL:-
I must first point out that this review is on the Final Night, not the whoile series, as I feel a FINAL is a FINAL and should be judged as so.
So having said that I feel that MATT WAS ROBBED.
After the first three dances, my better half and I could not really decide who to vote for, and as there were two more dances it is only right not to vote.
I thought up to this stage that three of the Judges (Len not included) may well have written their comments before the contest had even begun.
As usual they seemed to ignore any foot work faults that Elisha made, only viewing her from the knee upwards, and I agree if you take this line she always looks a picture.
For me the turning point in Matts favour was the dance where they had to both dance to the Judges Music choice.
Matt and his partner performed...
Advantages: A superb introduction to Elmore Leonard, or a great read for fans Disadvantages: Disadvantages? To Elmore Leonard? You ARE joking?
...Even if you don?t read much, you may know the work of Elmore Leonard. After all, such is his reputation as a crime and thriller writer, that they?ve been making films of his novels since 1957. Tarantino turned his novel ?Rum Punch? into ?Jackie Brown?, and ?Out of Sight? and ?Get Shorty? (as well as the currently being made follow up ?Be Cool?) were originally Elmore Leonard novels.
Having discovered the author by taking a chance on a recommendation, I?ve never looked back. After all, an Elmore Leonard novel is the written equivalent to a good action film ? there?s always something happening, and it?s usually something you just can?t turn away from, even for a second. But when I picked up his latest ?When the Women Come Out to Dance?, and discovered it was a collection of short stories, I was a little worried. He puts so much...
Advantages: Great music, sparkly costumes and lots to choose from Disadvantages: Quite complicated and difficult to keep up with
...As you may have worked out from some of my previous reviews I'm a bit of a fan of fitness videos. Actually that's an understatement as I've loads and am constantly looking out for new and different ones (keep an eye out for my Hulaerobics review coming soon!!).
So you can imagine my sheer delight when I noticed that Strictly stars Karen and Erin were bringing out an exercise DVD. I didn't really need to drop any hints for Christmas I was just worried I might end up with 7 copies from all my loved ones!!
So onto the review - Karen and Erin present a workout DVD with a difference. All the sections are ballroom dance orientated with a tiny bit of aerobics thrown in. The routines are done to music that both of them have danced to on the show, for example Karen does a Salsa to 'Feeling Hot Hot Hot', the number she did with Mark...
