...I would just like to write a review on home study, something that I am sure that many of us have all done at one time or another. It is not something that we enjoy doing, and yet it makes up an important part of our studying times. For many, studying at home is perhaps the most hardest part of studying because a lot of the time it is something that you do on yur own - and because there are no other people about, it is hard to get in to the habit of doing so because nobody will smack your legs if you don't do it! Therefore, one of the best ways in which I have fouond to study at home is to do it with another one or two peopple who were all onmy course. A Study In Scarlet

Advantages: Incredibly addictive read. Interesting story and characters
Disadvantages: If not pre-warned about it the second part could seem WEIRD!

American Studies at Keele

Advantages: Great tutors, department is in the top 5 of the UK
Disadvantages: They assume you know lots about the subject

Opting to take history as a degree subject was fairly easy for me because I've always had a love for it, but my choice of American Studies was a little random, and even now I try to work out just why I did pick it... BSY Courses

Advantages: So many courses!
Disadvantages: You've got to motivate yourself!

...BSY offers over 250 courses for anyone to undertake at home (though some do require a final examination in a particular place). When I decided to get my life in order I looked for the cheapest and best place to do Pet Psychology and BSY won, so I rang them up and the really nice lady offered me a 2 for 1 deal and I'm now doing Holistic Animal Healing also. Now, I'm not the most motivated person in the world - bear in mind I started this in Jan 2006! Anyway, I've finally sent off my final examinations and hopefully I'll receive qualifications soon. Everything I received and needed for the course was sent through the post with envelopes to send it back once completed. I get to keep all the course materials too. I know that different courses require you to purchase your own equipment and take exams so I can only comment on the 2 above...

A Level Film Studies - My Fortè

Over the two year course i studied History, English, ICT, Drama and my fortè which is Film Studies. ...This is the main textbook i use to aid me in my studies of Sport and Physical Education at A level. It was recommended by our teachers as it is the most suited to our syllabus (AQA). i have the fourth edition, although there is a fifth addition which has been brought out to incorporate changes in the syllabuses, meaning it is relevant to a number of different exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR) . the book is split up into 3 sections, which are colour coordinated: the performer in action the performer as a person the performer in a social setting these sections relate to the 3 major parts of the syllabus: physiology and biomechanics psychology sociology and history which makes it easy to find a particular section or topic that is being studied at the time. the book consists of 698 pages, which makes it quite bulky...
