Advantages: Pleasure, exercise and fresh air
Disadvantages: Rapidly becomes very costly

...spend a small fortune and struggle if you are trying to make a living at it. There are others out there with the same ideas as you, some will be better and some worse. You could try to get a photographers job with a local paper to start or try to get a professional to take you on as apprentice. I do not know anything about this so cannot advise. I just take pics for myself and sometimes family because I like to. A professional friend studied photography at college and I used to help him on the streets by carrying around equipment. There may be courses full time or evening classes. This will be up to you depending on how serious you are. There are several listed on line that can get you a professional qualification like City & Guilds, but you could also try your local college. ...I would just like to write a review on home study, something that I am sure that many of us have all done at one time or another. It is not something that we enjoy doing, and yet it makes up an important part of our studying times. For many, studying at home is perhaps the most hardest part of studying because a lot of the time it is something that you do on yur own - and because there are no other people about, it is hard to get in to the habit of doing so because nobody will smack your legs if you don't do it! Therefore, one of the best ways in which I have fouond to study at home is to do it with another one or two peopple who were all onmy course. A Study In Scarlet

Advantages: Incredibly addictive read. Interesting story and characters
Disadvantages: If not pre-warned about it the second part could seem WEIRD!

Doyle's writing is pleasant and can be read at any age. The feel of the Victorian era is unmistakable and priceless. Review of A Study in Scarlet - Arthur Conan Doyle

The Digital Photography Book by Scott kelby

Advantages: Superb nugget sized tips, fits the camera bag nicely
Disadvantages: None

...There are lots of big shiny books out there that tell you all about digital photography and while many of these are great books, they can be a little intimidating too. Scott Kelby, author of many of the better photography boooks out there has now come up with the antidote. The Digital Photography Book is a mere 200 odd pages and is just slightly bigger than A5 in size yet contains a whole lot of useful information that will almost certainly improve anyone's photography. I was initially wondering quite what Scott Kelby had been smoking as the first few pages were somewhat surreal. Even the author noted they included lame (his word, not mine) humour. American Studies at Keele

Advantages: Great tutors, department is in the top 5 of the UK
Disadvantages: They assume you know lots about the subject

...I'm currently coming to the end of my second year at Keele university in the Midlands studying American Studies and History, and seeing as I've just done a review on the History side of things I thought I would do the same for American Studies. Opting to take history as a degree subject was fairly easy for me because I've always had a love for it, but my choice of American Studies was a little random, and even now I try to work out just why I did pick it... I guess I enjoy learning about American history more than anything else, but ho hum. Keele offers American Studies as a single degree and as part of the dual honours programme (which I do).
