...My family have not only recently become aware of the dangers of excess saturated fat in their diet. Sometime ago along with margarine spread on bread and toast for breakfast they switched to Elmlea single as a substitute for cream with fruit for desert (especially on Sundays). Today mum brought some around as a special treat to remind me of old times. It was the start of August the use by date is 07/October/2006. It does not recommend freezing and eat within 5 days of opening. THE PRODUCT My 284 ml pot (10 floz) came in about 4" high x 2" wide. It had a silver foil top that peals off (white and blue in colour). The white and red packaging describes the content as a lower fat blend of buttermilk and vegetable oils. Substitute For The Who

Advantages: Contemporary versions
Disadvantages: A couple of poor versions

...I am too young to remember the days of The Who. However i have been weaned and brought up on their musical talent. That i put down to my father, as he was a real mod. He was one of the hardcore that drove down in the convoys to Brighton on his Vespa. Ever seen the film Quadrophenia? You must! As my father owns EVERY Who album that was pressed in Vinyl, and i have them on CD, i have become accustomed to their music. I love it...they are genius! Infact my father even named me after one of their albums- 'Tommy'. I have seen them live (obviously without Keith Moon...may he R.I.P) & they are as superb as on their albums. So this brings me onto the point of the newly released "Substitute: The Songs Of The Who". That it is a substitute, as the Who can't ever be replaced, but a good one at that. ...Elmlea Double cream substitute is a unilever product. I have bought this several times over the past years. It has been available since 1984. One of the reasons I buy this substitute cream is that it lasts a long time, unopened in the fridge it lasts about 8 weeks, opened lasts a 5 days so ideal to keep there just in case you need it. You can buy this in many supermarkets / convenience stores , in Tesco's it costs 67p for a284ml tub .As well as the double cream substitute there is a single cream available too. ...Cream, how yummy but so high in fat. I use cream on occasions for putting on my desserts and love the taste. Many years ago a company called Elmlea produced a substitute cream that was half the fat of real cream without a real difference in the taste. Over a year ago I first tried this and took home a tub to try. The tub I tried was the single variety although they do double and light. The cream only comes in 284-ml plastic tubs. The tub is predominantly red and white with a stream of cream pouring onto a strawberry. The name Elmlea is in white near the top of tub, and the nutritional values and ingredients on one side. On the other side it states that it is half the fat of single cream and is suitable for pouring, cooking and in coffee. The tub has a foil top, which has a tab to pull open. It dose not have a smell as such...
