...It is the season for coughs, colds and general sniffles and with those, many of us gets a blocked nose, which may or may not be sinusitis. For me, a blocked nose is probably THE worst symptoms of a cold and I hate it, which is why I have always used Sinex in the past. During my last cold, Sinex disappeared off the shelves and I was greatly distressed by this. However, in Tesco, for £2.48, they had Sudafed spray. I wasn't sure but then realised Sudafed made decongestant tablets, which were always good, so why not give it a try. The packaging is a simple white and green box, not overly appealing but when you have a cold, nothing does. ...Sudafed has for me been the most amazing 'cold cure' for years. Whenever I have a cold I end up with ear infections due to the excess catarrh and mucus (so the GP told me!) I knew I was in for misery when my ears had that 'popped' feeling and I couldn’t hear properly and the accompanied pain was unbearable at times. I was recommended sudafed by a pharmacist and have never looked back. The active ingredient in sudafed is pseudoehedrine hydrochloride, the action of this is to essentially dry up excess mucus. This sounds horrendous but it does work and encourages fluid intake also by making you thirsty. I have found that within 20 minutes of taking a tablet that my ears feel better and nose stops dripping! Advantages: works quickly, very effective, not too expensive from 2 years and up
Disadvantages: cannot use for more than 5 days, not for people with asthma or high blood pressure

...I bought this for one of my children when they had a really heavy cold and were struggling to unblock their nose. After consulting with the Boots pharmacist she recommended the Sudafed elixir because it is non-drowsy but still effective. The Active ingredient is Pseudoephedrine, which is why you have to buy it over the counter, this stuff works unlike phenylephrine which is what you find in lemsip sachets and has little or no effect on a lot of people. The taste isnt too awful either which is a major bonus and I found that after dosing her with this she didnt need any painkillers - not because it contains one (it doesnt) but because it cleared the pressure in her sinuses really well and the headache she had been having went too. ...Sudafed tablets Over the past 3 or 4 weeks I have been suffering, My sinus?s have hurt not all the time but just every 2 or 3 days I get this pain .I have been suffering with a bit of nasal congestion So I tried Sudafed to see if that would help. I would not like to go into much detail about the obvious substances that block the nasal passages as it would probably put you all off.
