Your life needs a little SPARC
Review of Sun Ultra 5 360 - UltraSPARC IIi 360 MHz by  sjhill

Advantages: Cheap entry level Sun SPARC from 1997
Disadvantages: Build quality is PC like, and low cache processors

...The Sun UltraSPARC 5 workstation was brought out in 1997, and was priced so you could have one on your desk for approx 1000 US Dollars. They stopped shipping to customers in May 2002. These days, it is not a fast machine, but still they are perfectly useable for many workstation and server tasks. Processor and Memory - This model has an UltraSPARC IIi processor which is, of course, 64 bit and is clocked at 360 MHz. You can have 1GB of memory in the workstation, installed as up to 4 DIMMS, which must be installed in pairs. "Normal" PC memory will not work in these workstations. The 260MHz model only has 256kB cache (same with the 270MHz processor) For better performance, you need the 2MB cache version on the 333 or 400MHz versions. Storage - There is one HDD bay in the machine, although if you remove the floppy drive, you... Read review

Sony 900mhz.
Review of Sony 900mhz cordless phone by  sweetfire_01

Advantages: few more options than other phones
Disadvantages: made by Sony

...I bought a Sony 900mhz cordless telephone with answering system and speaker phone because we were looking for the best priced telephone for our computer business. We decided to buy the Sony with speaker phone included because we have to sit on hold a lot during our consultations with other businesses. So we figured the speaker phone would be best in this case...this way we wouldn't have to keep the phone to our ear...(just set it down and go about any other business we might have)! We were never big fans of Sony equipment in the past, however I feel that Sony products are way over priced for the simple pieces of plastic they sell and I have to say that I was just waiting for the day this phone decides to screw up so I could write a (not so nice opinion), but since I have had this phone for almost a year now, I guess it is time... Pentium III - More for your money
Review of Intel Pentium III 933 MHz processor by  Willsy

Advantages: Reliable
Disadvantages: Cost? ( see opinion )

...tag given to Intel processors is somewhat unjustified. For example my PIII 600 in May 2000 - cost £240 running at 800mhz. An 800mhz PIII at the time was approx £500, enough to get a top of the range graphics card and change. Admittedly there are some "hidden" costs to the overclocked version e.g. a good quality mainboard, roomy case for good airflow, and a better heatsink, but I think that these are good practice in building any computer, the other minus is there's no guarantee that the processor you get will sucessfuly overclock. I would however still recommend the Pentium III, it's a good, fast and stable processor even when pushed towards it's limits.... Read review

Voodoo 3 2000 PCI, a 4 year spell
Review of 3Dfx Voodoo3 2000 by  RHawkins17

Advantages: The card of 1999-2002
Disadvantages: Not supported now, 3DFX went bust

...and I far recommend AMD to Intel for them. AMD even advertise their CPUs with names of the comparable Intel processors such as the AMD Athlon XP 1800+ is comparable to an Intel Pentium 4 1800 MHZ processor even though it only has 1533 MHZ. Want to play many 2002 games with a good 1024x768 resolution? - Quite functional. Unfortunately many games support a feature nowadays called Hardware T&L Lighting, a feature that renders any card that doesn't feature this incompatible. Games like Warcraft III and Max Payne are fine with the Voodoo 3 cards. These cards also have the memory (16 megabytes) to beat out any graphics that the PS2 can come up with, it has the capacity for more detailed textures and resolutions. Graphics are also very stable and crystal without any visible glitching, providing you have the earlier versions of the 3DFX drivers... Read review

In a world of its own
Review of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC) by  the_vchip

Advantages: The best RPG on the market
Disadvantages: Life, what is life?

...character can have a weapon of choice, a small blade for assassins, a large sword for fighters, staffs for wizards etc, etc. Another bonus is that two expansions have been released to increase the enjoyment of this game, but with the game being £25 and each expansion around £15 - £20, the cost can be a stumbling block. So stick this game on a birthday or Christmas list and hope. My only concern is the lack of a multiplayer but in honesty you don’t even miss it, or people, or the real world because life in Morrowind is better than all that. This next bit is from the readme file that come with the latest patch for the game Minimum System Requirements: * Windows Me/98 128MB RAM * Windows XP/2000 256MB RAM (Windows NT NOT supported) * 500mhz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, or AMD Athlon processor. * 8x CD/DVD-ROM Drive * 1... MORROWIND - NOT AN INCREASE IN FLATULENCE
Review of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC) by  Ciaoboy

Advantages: A great game
Disadvantages: Too addictive?

...to a limited degree. Other aspects of the gameplay are the enormous number of spell effects that are available, all of which can be enchanted onto items by using souls of creatures you have killed captured in soul gems, as well as being cast normally. There are other aspects of the gameplay that I can't really go into without giving too much away.......suffice it say there is plenty to keep you busy. Before I discuss how pretty it all looks and sounds, here's the technical guff: Minimum System Requirements • Windows ME/98 128MB RAM • Windows XP/2000 256MB RAM • 500 MHz Intel Pentium III, Celeron, or AMD Athlon processor • 8 x CD/DVD-ROM Drive • 1 GB free hard disk space • Windows swapfile • DirectX 8.1 (included) • 32MB Direct3D compatible video card and DirectX 8.1 compatible... Disadvantages: Can be slow at times, no SD slot (only MicroSD)

...This phone has been hyped by phone enthusiasts ever since it was announced by HTC. This phone has been rebranded by the UK's leading network operators as follows: Vodafone V1605 Compact III Tmobile MDA Vario II Orange MPV M3100 The reason why this phone was so much anticipated by phone enthusiasts is simply due to its specifications. Have a look: Network: HSDPA / GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / EDGE (That is this phone is QuadBand, and runs on 3G) TFT touchscreen, 65K colors 240 x 320 pixels, 42 x 57 mm (2.5" touchscreen display) QWERTY keyboard (an innovative sliding keyboard) - 64 MB RAM, 128 MB ROM - 400 Mhz Samsung processor (remember the days where the home computer had a 400Mhz processor?) AMD K6 IIIplus 450MHz Suitable For Super Socket 7
Review of AMD K6 III by  Union

Advantages: Saves Money on Upgrading a Super Socket 7 Motherboard
Disadvantages: Motherboard needs to support a Core voltage of 2.0, also requires the latest BIOS upgrade for your motherboard

...Although the AMD K6 III+ 450MHz was designed for laptop use they can be used in Super Socket 7 motherboards as many of the major board makers have now released BIOS upgrades to support the CPU. The AMD K6 III+ 450MHz is available on auction sites such as eBay and QXL, but not in the shops as they are only released by AMD as OEM for the major laptop makers. The CPU is made using the 0.18 Micron process which is the same as the Duron range, the old K6 III series which is no longer available was made using the 0.25 Micron process. So as look as your board supports a Core voltage of 2.0, Multiplier of 4.5, FSB of 100MHz. It is also possible to overclock these processors to 600Mhz because of the 0.18 Micron process and the 2.0v Core voltage with the use of a good fan and heartsink. All this will help the owners of Super Socket 7 motherboard... Read review

At last my own computer!
Review of ThinkPad T22 2647 - PIII 900 MHz - 14.1" TFT by  Suzi56

Advantages: Reliable and robust
Disadvantages: A bit heavy to carry around

...My husband decided to buy himself a laptop because I kept taking over his computer to surf the net and complete on-line surveys. But now I have taken over the laptop and he can keep his computer. We bought a secondhand IBM Thinkpad T22 on Ebay for about £250. It is a Pentium III 900mhz with 256mb RAM and a 20gb hard drive, it also came with a swappable DVD-ROM and a floppy disk drive which share the same slot. It has two PCMCIA slots. I have never used the floppy disk, as I use a USB pen drive for backing up files instead, but it is good to know that we have one should we need it, because we do not have one in our main PC. We bought a PCMCIA network card so that I can connect to the internet wherever I am in the house (or garden). The keyboard is very comfortable to use, I have it on a stand so that it is at an angle, rather than... Read review

Toughness for anywhere but lacking a bit of kick
Review of Panasonic Toughbook 18 Tablet PC version - Pentium M 900 MHz - 10.4" TFT by  maxmidnight

Advantages: Tough enough for all environments with best of breed battery life.
Disadvantages: Keyboard cannot be detached, weighty, lacks power for multi application use.

...is the keyboard sealed against spills (great for infection control monitoring on a hospital ward), but all the ports have doors and the most fragile components are shock mounted to take a beating. The tablet can endure several drops to concrete, something I wouldn't dare try with the Toshiba, Fujitsu or HP, and survived without a scratch. It is a big and heavy device, and weighing 4.7lb is as heavy as a convertible Tablet with a larger screen. However it does come with a solidly attached fabric handle for carrying around. Powered by a 900-MHz ultra-low-voltage Pentium M processor, the Toughbook 18 is the slowest of the reviewed devices and struggles when considerable resources are used, i.e. launching applications, running complex queries. With 256MB of memory, it should have another 256MB, and can hold up to 768MB, but to do this would also... Read review
