...I got this dvd writer about 3 weeks when i bought it on import from america. it is being released here in the UK right about now, and i'm sure i will be the first of many to sing it's praises. Fistly here is what it is capable of: Disc Compatability - This machine can write to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and also the new DVD-R/+R Dual Layer Discs. The standard single layer dics can hold 4.7gb and the new dual layer discs can hold 8.5gb. Write Speeds: Single layer DVD +/- R/Rw at an amazing 16x, this means a full dvd in 6-7 minutes! For the Dual layer dvd's (+/-) it writes at 6x, which is the fastest speed currently available. DVD-RW writes at 6x and DVD+RW writes at 8x. ...This LG GDR 8163B is the latest DVD-RW drive from LG and as per usual is Brillaint to use. This is dual layer drive....8.5GB potential Burns CDr's at 40x about 2 min 32 secs @600mb on an 80min/ 700meg cdr. Also does CDRW DVD-r are a breese and the drive is very fast and quite. DVD+r little slower but works fine with all mainstream disks. DVD-Ram too but the disks a bit expensive so farfor me to try. DVD-RW disks are a breese again using Nero newest version and back-up data is straight forward. Have used Datawrite Grey 8x DVD-R and INFINITI 16x Green DVD-R no probs. But would suggest spending a little moer on good disks. 8XDVD-r time is about 7 mins for 4gb data and 7min 50 secs for DVD files. Overall good machine and well worth the current cost of £35-£32.... ...Ok so yesterday I wrote a review on a CD-R, so I thought that I would move on and review a DVD+RW today. These aren't the discs I usually use for my DVDs, actually I have only used them once, but I think I will be using them more in the future. They are great. They are a nice price compared to a lot of others, and they are pretty durable. Reliability… In my CD-R review I mentioned errors while burning CDs, and errors while burning DVDs was pretty much mandatory for me, until I started using these. I have only ever come across 2 errors, and they were my fault anyway for opening the drive in the middle of burning. Before I bought a DVD-RW drive, I used to make VCDs most of the time, as they were quick and easy. But since I have been using these, there is no need for VCDs as the discs give me no trouble at all. ...These are defiantly the best DVD+RW to get. They have a very high burn speed (4x) and every time i burn to it at max, it always works. It is easy to add more to the DVD (multi session) and erasing them takes no time. 2 mins on my drive. You can keep burning and erasing them. some products ive tested say they can do it 50 to 100 times but they all LIE!!! This DVD is still going past 50. It seems, to stop it, you have to break it. but the disc is going. It has a nice silver bottom (to burn to) and the top has a nice gold finish. You cannot however write anything on to it without a permanent pen. ball points do not seem to work well on it. The top is quite scratch resistant and the bottom depends on what you put it into. (PS2s really scratch up DVDs but if you use it in a PC, then it seems like no scratches). The case that it comes... Read review

...These are one of the cheapest DVD-RW brands available. I bought my first pack about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back. The Company Datawrite is now becoming one of the most widely recognised and purchased brands in the field of optical media storage. Since its inception in 1992, Datawrite has managed to produce premium quality, affordable media. They are manufactured by Datasafe Media. The Disc are DVD-RW suitable for anyone who wants to temporay store data on. RW means ReWritable allowing you to erase the contents of the disc and fill again with new. Firstly I use a lot of DVD-RW discs. So I needed a disc I could rely on to store my data safely, to have good read/write ability with multiple burners and players and be light on my pocket. ...This dvd recorder is quite surprising. I was expecting a very basic unit with basic functions. However I am pleasantly surprised! It is easy to set up as there are 2 scart sockets along with audio and video sockets too. It plays all cd formats DVD Video • VCD • SVCD • DVD-R • DVD-RW • DVD+R • DVD+RW • CD (Audio) • CD-R • CD-RW • Picture CD and also supports MP3 and JPG formats too. However it will only record onto DVD+RW which is not a problem as this format is readily available. I bought my discs from Morissons supermarket and they work fine. You can alter the record time from Standard Play up to Super Extended Play, although I have noticed the picture quality does diminish somewhat when using the Super Extended Play mode. ...I bought this DVD re-writer in January and had problems with it literally from day one. It first the problems were very mild, it would not register the cheaper discs when inserted into the drive but it would write them. However these discs were written to a poor quality and were unplayable on two of our standalone DVD players and barely playable on the third. Then the bigger problems started. Four months after being it this DVD player ceased to read DVD movies at all and occasionally would not read CDs or CD-ROM either. This meant that we could not erase any rewritable discs to write something else onto them. A month and a half after this the DVD rewriter also stopped writing DVD and CD and therefore became thoroughly useless to us.
