Sunny Beach - My experience of Bulgaria

Advantages: Dirt Cheap
Disadvantages: Nessebar's rubbish

The food on offer in the hotel's buffet style restaurant was not great, but nevertheless it was edible and as Bulgaria is fresh out of communism and still trying to make a name for itself in the tourism market, you should expect things not to be perfect. There really is absolutely nothing outside of the Elenite complex, just hills and mountains. The nearest town to the Elenite resort is the resort of Sunny Beach. To sum Sunny Beach up, I'd say think Magaluf and Benidorm without the larger lout mentality. Some parts of Sunny Beach reminded me of Blackpool, a Bulgarian-Blackpool styled by soviets. Sunny Beach is still developing but even now it's the biggest Black Sea resort. It boasts the longest and widest beach strip, over 100 hotels and a prestigious 'Blue Flag International prize for proven ecological advantages...

SUNNY BEACH - MAJESTIC HOTEL

Advantages: CHEAP, EXCELLENT POOLSIDE & VIEWS, FRIENDLY REPS
Disadvantages: DANCING BEARS - CRUEL!!!, NOT A LOT TO DO WHEN IT RAINS!!

...Just returned from a week at the Majestic hotel in Sunny Beach. We had read some scary reports on this hotel, in particular block 2, so when we checked in and were given a room in block two we were worried. The Porter showed us to our room, and we were pleasantly surprised, we had booked a twin room, but had been upgraded to a suite. If you are going to this hotel with Thomsons you should have no worries, we were told that they get the best rooms as they are the Majestics biggest customer, although we did hear of some complaints of leaky air con, and incompleted rooms; we appeared to be one of the lucky ones!! As for the food, I am a vegetarian and my husband is not, yet we still managed to both get food poisoning. We only ate at the resturant and were careful with water, ice cubes, etc, so can only assume that there was something...

Sunny Beach

Advantages: cheap, hot, friendly
Disadvantages: not many UK airports have flights there yet

...Last year my family and I decided to go somewhere different and after hours looking through brochures decided on Bulgaria. We stayed at the Hotel Evrika in Sunny Beach all inclusive for 2 weeks. It was very cheap but very good. The hotel was clean and staff very friendly. The nightly entertainment was great and there were many other activities during the day. We all found the food at this hotel excellent - ate far more than we should have but most of it was healthy. The area around Sunny Beach is very cheap for eating out, clothes, trainers, cigarettes, alcohol and gifts. The beach is very sandy and clean and the Black Sea is quite warm. The only things on the negative side were - many people do not speak alot of English but then you can't expect them to i suppose. This wasn't too much of a problem to us as i speak German and all...

nice hotel shame about the place?

Advantages: clean ,only 2 years old,200yds from beach
Disadvantages: busy main road to cross (hard if you have kids)

...Hotel Wela is rated as 4*, but as we were going to Bulgaria for the first time we were unsure how this would reflect in real standards. We need not have worried as the hotel came up to expectations. It is only a few years old, and as such, everywhere is in good condition. It was one of the cleanest hotels we have stopped in. There seemed to be cleaners on duty 24 hours a day. This was proven on the last night, when we were sitting in the foyer at 3:00 in the morning, waiting for our departure coach. Some young lads had been having fun, and one of them was thrown into the pool. He came into reception and asked for his key so he could get changed (Not go to bed!).He stood there dripping, leaving a big puddle on the marble floor. The receptionist,(By the way, all of them always had a smile and would always be polite and helpful...

The Best Hidden Secret In Europe

Advantages: Exellent Nightlife,Cheap food and drink,Shopping,Weather

...I went to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria last August with my wife, I think we went because we had heard it was so cheap to eat and drink and fancied seeing if this was true, and also to try somewhere a bit different as we didn't know anyone who had been before, so we had no idea really what to expect. We paid just over £700 for both of us, for two weeks in August with taxi transfers and a three star hotel on the sea front which we thought was extremely good value for money. We arrived at Bourgas airport got through customs without any problems and our taxi driver was waiting to take us on to Sunny Beach which took about 20 - 25 minutes. When we arrived at our hotel it was about midnight so we dumped our stuff in the quite basic hotel room and went out to explore the many bars and resturaunts. Our best bulgarian holiday yet.

Advantages: On the beach, Extensive grounds, Fantastic food.
Disadvantages: could have better outside evening entertainment.

...We have been to Bulgaria every year since 2002 and 2008 was the best. We started off in Albena which is to the north very nice but rather quiet.Then we found Sunny Beach and the difference is unbelievable. The first year we stayed at The Riu Helios, then The Sunny Dreams Apartments. Both of these are very good quality for money.but then the best ,The Majestic Hotel. Having seen this hotel being built we were eager to try it out and believe me we were not disappointed with what we found. The moment you see it from the beach you will think it would not look out of place in Las Vegas, its massive and its PINK, yes PINK.From the beach you stroll up past the two huge pools to the waterfall then up the steps to an enormous patio with luxurious seating areas . Sun, Sea and Sunnies

Advantages: Will not leak in your bag
Disadvantages: Dry out easily and not cheap.

However with all this knowledge now, How many of you are careful about making sure you never go out without protection. Children are most at risk from the sun as their bodies don't produce melanin which helps protect the skin from the UV rays. How many times have you let the kids go out and play without thinking of their skin? I know I have. And I am even worse with myself. ...hi, just back from our holiday in sunny beach.this was our second visit to bulgaria,the 1st time we stayed in golden sands,but as there was 8 in our group instead of the usual 4 we thought a bigger resort would give us more scope.we paid £404 each for 2 weeks b/b in the hotel which was 3* rated.1st impressions were not good as the hotel which is in a complex of 3 hotels[hence the tongue twisting name]was drab,but the rooms were clean,with a huge balcony and a good size.There were 2 pools to use,1 was for non~swimmers &kids,and the other a good sized family pool,both of which were clean.Breakfasts were the usual cold meats,cheese,bread and boiled eggs,but as in our last visit we soon found a good choice of places to have a full breakfast for about 7/8 levs which is about £2. The hotel had a nice restaurant with a good choice of dishes...

Unexpected surprise!

Advantages: Sun, Sea and clubs
Disadvantages: limited flight times.

...When my boyfriend told me that his auntie had bought an apartment in Bulgaria and that we were going on holiday there my first thought was why? I had never thought about going to Bulgaria for a holiday, I'm used to a clubbing holiday and Bulgaria just didn't appeal to me. We looked at some flights and found one at just £304 for the two of us so I thought cheap holiday! We arrived at Bourgas airport, which is the most convenient for Sunny beach. The security at the airport is very tight and it can take a while to get through all the check points but at least it's good. We were staying at the Elite 3 apartment's which is part of an apartment complex, all with very large pools, bar, restaurants, shops and amusements. The Elite 3 is very clean and safe with its own security guard at the gate. The pool bar also serves very nice...
