Sunny Beach - My experience of Bulgaria

Advantages: Dirt Cheap
Disadvantages: Nessebar's rubbish

We stayed at the Elenite Holiday Village situated in a quiet bay 10km north of Sunny Beach. The village works on an "all inclusive basis". This was the first time we'd ever gone all inclusive and as everything in the town is so cheap, if we were to go back it would probably have been the last time we'd gone all inclusive aswell. The apartments in the village are clean. All rooms have terrace, telephone, SAT TV, mini bar, bathroom with hairdryer and air conditioning. The family suites have a bathtub as well. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels provided. The beach was beautiful, the water, clean and blue, the sea bottom is shallow and safe...

Sun, Sea and Sunnies

Advantages: Will not leak in your bag
Disadvantages: Dry out easily and not cheap.

However with all this knowledge now, How many of you are careful about making sure you never go out without protection. Children are most at risk from the sun as their bodies don't produce melanin which helps protect the skin from the UV rays. How many times have you let the kids go out and play without thinking of their skin? I know I have. And I am even worse with myself. SUNNY BEACH - MAJESTIC HOTEL

Advantages: CHEAP, EXCELLENT POOLSIDE & VIEWS, FRIENDLY REPS
Disadvantages: DANCING BEARS - CRUEL!!!, NOT A LOT TO DO WHEN IT RAINS!!

...Just returned from a week at the Majestic hotel in Sunny Beach. We had read some scary reports on this hotel, in particular block 2, so when we checked in and were given a room in block two we were worried. The Porter showed us to our room, and we were pleasantly surprised, we had booked a twin room, but had been upgraded to a suite. If you are going to this hotel with Thomsons you should have no worries, we were told that they get the best rooms as they are the Majestics biggest customer, although we did hear of some complaints of leaky air con, and incompleted rooms; we appeared to be one of the lucky ones!! As for the food, I am a vegetarian and my husband is not, yet we still managed to both get food poisoning. We only ate at the resturant and were careful with water, ice cubes, etc, so can only assume that there was something...

Kefalos Beach Tourist Village

Advantages: Lovely swimming pool, Sea Views, Quiet area, Good Breakfasts
Disadvantages: Rocky Beach, Unhelpful staff on reception, Far from Paphos Centre

...First impressions not good due to very unhelpful and rude staff at check in. Reception area itself though was lovely with atrium design and small bar with comfie seating. Beach kart helps you to your apartment which gives the impression that the complex is vast..it isn't and infact you feel a little foolish driving such a small distance! Rooms clean and comfortable and lovely if you look onto beach wonderful wildlife at night with bats flying past. Rooms quiet due to the fact that resort centre (paphos) is about 10-15 mins walk away. Bit of a hairy walk due to mad drivers but there is a path that goes form the beach and avoids all roads but it is very sandy and may prove heavy going with buggy. Also very hot with no shade or facilities so not practical in middle of the day. We went self catering but recommend that you try...

Sun, sea, sand oh & the sex on the beach

Advantages: Very clean, excellent service & lovely weather
Disadvantages: Attracts a lot of kids, not excellent evening entertainment

...the deep part which your tip toes can just reach good bit for swimming in. the baby pool was in the shade and was just like a big paddling pool it was very shallow and looked like great fun for the kiddies. The quiet pool was nice because it was all adults and was good for a swim it is smaller than the big pool and is about half the size of an Olympic sized swimming pool. All the pools where kept very clean and of a nice temperature. They all have sun beds surrounding them. There were not fights as such for these but you had to be there for about 8:30 to get a nice position by 10:00 you could possibly get a bed but it would probably be in the shade. The sun bed's where just the standard plastic frames with blue covering not the most comfortable but adequate. THE BEACH At the back of the hotel you will find the beach you walk down to it...

The Village

...Last week I came across one of those special offers in HMV (4 DVds for £20). It was end of the season sale and I picked up a film called "The Village" just to make up the numbers. It struck me as being some sort of clichéd horror film from the blurb on the cover and I didn't expect to be watching it in the very near future. But it was one of those DVDs that keep popping up every time I looked through my shelf of dozens of other unwatched movies. Well the other evening, it popped up again and I just put it in the machine without giving it too much thought. As I wasn't in the mood for thinking anyway, it would probably be an ideal film. The Best Hidden Secret In Europe

Advantages: Exellent Nightlife,Cheap food and drink,Shopping,Weather
Disadvantages: Not that many Brits there - Yet!!

...language to learn!! If you like Bulgaria you could even buy your own place there, studios just on the outskirts of Sunny Beach start at about £10,000 and they have payment plans which make them very affordable. They are a stable country and are in the eu now and building work is going on like mad. We went on a viewing trip one day with an english estate agent over there and worried before that we would be given the hard sell, but it was totally the opposite we went round loads of different building sites and show homes, it felt like an episode of A Place in the Sun!! And in the end we decided on a one bed apartment on Royal Sun a big new developement in Sunny Beach so we will be back every year now! All in all Sunny Beach Bulgaria is a fantastic holiday spot, its not what you expect, I think more and more people are starting to catch...

I was one of the Village People!

Advantages: Family friendly, All Inclusive, Good amenities
Disadvantages: Location on island, rather expensive (but worth it)

...I stayed at the Almond Beach Village (ABV) from 15 October 2007 for two weeks. I don't quite understand what all the fuss is about as I absolutely enjoyed my stay there. I have read reports that ABV is not a 4 star resort, but you have to remember that you are in a Caribbean country so you will not have the same 4 star quality there as you would in the UK. Isn't that just plain common sense? The staff were great and we made some really good friends who were an absolute joy! Location ABV is in St Peter's which is the top end of the island. It is about a 40 minute drive to Bridgetown (capital and main shopping hub) but it's only about 10 minutes away from Speightstown. I must say it is a bit far out, but as ABV is all inclusive you don't necessarily need to leave the complex. Therefore I don't think it is too much...

Our best bulgarian holiday yet.

Advantages: On the beach, Extensive grounds, Fantastic food.
Disadvantages: could have better outside evening entertainment.

...We have been to Bulgaria every year since 2002 and 2008 was the best. We started off in Albena which is to the north very nice but rather quiet.Then we found Sunny Beach and the difference is unbelievable. The first year we stayed at The Riu Helios, then The Sunny Dreams Apartments. Both of these are very good quality for money.but then the best ,The Majestic Hotel. Having seen this hotel being built we were eager to try it out and believe me we were not disappointed with what we found. The moment you see it from the beach you will think it would not look out of place in Las Vegas, its massive and its PINK, yes PINK.From the beach you stroll up past the two huge pools to the waterfall then up the steps to an enormous patio with luxurious seating areas .
