Advantages: A great series.
Disadvantages: Some season 1 episodes are poor

So you may be forgiven not to realise another sci-fi series which had just been released. Babylon 5 was a bold and unique experiment for TV. A novel made for TV, which spanned 5 series and aired 110 episodes, which included a clear beginning, middle and end. Babylon 5 did not fit into any category of a known TV program. Not being a TV movie, mini-series or designed to run indefinitely. It was pitched to the networks as a whole package. Writer, J. Michael Straczynski, spent six years finding a way to bring his dream on to TV, but the scale of his designs for the series was too much for many TV networks. ...Without a doubt Babylon 5 is one of the best Sci fi shows to hit our screens over the last few years. It beats all of the Star Trek attempts into a cocked hat. Basically B5 tells the 5 year story of a space station (Babylon 5 itself) and its involvement in a war between the Shadows ( an evil alien race) and the Vorlons (a not so evil race) that threatens the galaxy itself. While not the most original story, it is handled wonderfully with conversations in one episode having implications in another episode further down the story arc. It really is like War & Peace in space, it covers most conditions of the human condition such as love, hatred, honour , spiritually, death, and friendship. It was shot over 100 episodes and 3 feature length films (4 if you include the first episode). I really can't recommend this highly enough. Note... Read review

Her one aim in life is to live free and not part of the psi corp, so she helps people to escape Earth escape from besta but he knows she is different and he wants that ability he is a man without conscience, no humanity no one is better than him and thinks that is how it should be. If you want to find out what happens to all these characters tune into Babylon 5 on bravo during the week at lunchtime repeated in the evening or on sci-fi during the week. I was never a sci-fi fan but I will not miss an episode. This must be about the third time I have watched it and always see something I never noticed before.... Read review

...Forget Star Trek . Babylon 5 is IT. Season 1 of Babylon 5 box set. This is the Beginning If you have not seen Babylon 5 then there are 5 seasons, 4 TV movies a spinoff show and a spinoff TV Movie. When Babylon 5 first hit our screens way back in the ninties it had cutting edge CGI and a real hard story. we are not talking all nicey nicey star trek future, we are talking dark, gritty and far more realistic. Where Drug abuse is still vibrant with sinister officials and alot of cloak and dagger dealings. The Cast are fantastic, from Michael O'Hare (Tron) and Mira Furlan(Lost) to Andreas Katsulas(the Fugitive) and Billy Mumy(Lost in Space). They created a great onscreen releationship and helped in making the first proper sci-fi story arc. Season 1 only touches on the Story arc at small levels but it does lay the foundations... ...Although I ave always been a sci-fi fan Babylon 5 was the first series to really grab my attention and force me to watch every episode. Indeed, it is the first TV show that has ever made me want to own all of it on video. The story tells the history of the babylon 5 space station, located in neutral territory in a galaxy composed of five major races (humans, Centauri, Narn, Minbari and Vorlons). The story takes us through the reawakening of an ancient race (the Shadow'senemies of the Vorlons) and an inter-galatic war that changes things forever for every single inhabitant of the station and for most of the residents of the galaxy. The major seling point of the story is that every character is alive and changes through the programme. A decision made in one episode can have damning effects on the character mch later on... ...Babylon 5: Crusade kicks off where the B5 TV movie Call to Arms finished. With Earth under quarantine from a Drakh plague, and no cure in sight, the super advanced starship Excalibur and its handpicked crew set off into the galaxy, to try to find a cure within five years, when all of Earths life will be dead Simple enough. While Crusade was never going to be as good as B5, it is still cool, but for different reasons. Whereas B5 was gritty, realistic (for sci- fi) and dealt with as much human as alien issues, Crusade relies more on its cool cast, and impressive CGI. The CGI effects are great. With the Excalibur being a warship, and a jolly decent one at that, there is room for great space battles, mainly involving the Drakh. But the characters are the real treat.
