Support for your Elbow
Advantages: No drugs, helps make physical activity easier, does relieve pain temporarily
Disadvantages: Only for use to support elbow in physical activity, expensive
...an option this time round - not until I had had some physiotherapy first.
I don't like taking pain killers on a daily basis, so that ruled out the ibuprofen. I decided it might be an idea to find something that will support my elbow while I do tasks which make the pain worse, such as using the vacuum cleaner or carrying the shopping.
The Elbow Support
So I found myself in Boots and parted with £18.99 for an Elastoplast Tennis Elbow Support.
I was unaware Elastoplast made anything other than, er, elastoplasts, but they actually offer several sports injury products for joints, as I discovered on my visit to Boots.
The Tennis Elbow Support is basically a black polyester strip with a pad inside which fastens through a loop with Velcro. Sounds very simple, and it is.
You wear the support on your lower arm, just below your elbow. The blue...

The Student Support Centre tuition
Advantages: Might help some children over a short period
Disadvantages: Very expensive; parents tied into agreement;; very short trial period
...I received a leaflet from this company - the Student Support Centre - in 2006. As a parent with a child of 7 I was very interested. I felt help with Maths and English would probably benefit him. This is despite the fact that he was doing pretty well already.
I telephoned the company and arranged a vist from on of their salesmen. The cost of the tution was not mentioned in the leaflet nor during the conversation by phone.
When the salesman came I discovered he was a local man, a family man, He had beena teacher or lecturer who had dropped out of teaching because he thought there was a better way of educating children. He created an environment in which I was persuaded that the tution was an essential product for making sure that my son would make the best progress possible. He was very plausible.
Having spent most of his time...

Not so supportive.
Advantages: Removable cover
Disadvantages: Baby slipped off the end
...Being pregnant for the third time has made me slightly reminiscent of my previous pregnancy and baby experiences, it gives me a lot of food for thought as I decide what products I will or will not be reusing or replacing for baby Lumpys arrival in July. Back in 2004 when I was expecting my first child I was naturally a bit apprehensive, I'd not had much contact with babies and was unsure of how I'd cope with it all, bathing scared me in particular and I was always worried that I wouldn't support my baby properly, perhaps even letting him fall into the water, deciding it would be better to prevent even the risk of this happening we purchased the Mothercare fabric bath support in the hopes that it would ease my first time mum worries.

Student Support Centre
Advantages: Home based learning which can be done at your child's own speed. Easy to understand and follow
Disadvantages: None
.... I also signed a mountain of paperwork to join the programme and even after he?d gone I had time to read it all again and cancel if I had any concerns. I personally thought everything was very clear and transparent.
The course requires a commitment from both the child and parent, which I was made aware of before signing up to the course. The company provides the DVDs and supporting materials, but it?s up to the parents to motivate their child and keep them engaged.
The format of the lessons really worked well for him. If he didn?t understand something he?d just watch the section again and again until he did and then he?d complete the assessment. The fact he was able to watch and understand it in his own time was a real benefit.
I'm very pleased with the service I've received from the SSC and the improvements it has made to my...

Khyam Vector PoP Up Tents.
Advantages: So auick & easy! Saves you getting wet when others are still constructing...
Disadvantages: None that I can think of!
...The Mutts Nuts!
These things go up & down in minutes (or at least the 2 man vector does!) stand up to all sorts of weather (I've used mine in a hailstorm in gale force winds in Biarritz!!) & they are pretty light.
They also came in all shapes & sizes which are variations on the basic Dome.
When new you just fix the inner inside the Fly & that's where it stays, the tent is almost free standing when the poles are locked straight although like all tents it is important to stratch the peg rubbers when anchoring it down & apply the Guy lines if expecting rough weather.
Even with the Guys in place this tent only uses 12 pegs!
I've been touring on a mountain bike with one in France numerous times & the simplicity when you have to keep putting up / taking down is great.
Mine's also made from a ripstop nylon, which helps when it...

A great way to help support your baby's neck and keep them safe
Advantages: cheap, comfy, piece of mind
Disadvantages: ummm... ??
...The baby neck supporter is from Clipasafe which is a company which specialise in ways to make children safe. This latest product is really very useful and great value for money.
My baby is 4 months old and in her car seat is the 'head hugger' which is for new born babies who's heads are too small to fit into the seat and would otherwise be banged around from side to side whilst driving. The head hugger is now too tight for my baby but without it she is still too small for the big gaps either side of her head to the sides of the car seat. This neck supporter, however, is just ideal for the stage we are at.
It is a U-shaped padded cushion which you just put around your baby's neck so it is cushioned. It makes sure that your baby's head is protected- no longer will it loll from side to side you to drive whilst they sleep. It is soft...

I couldn't find anything to support The Student Support Centre!
Advantages: I couldn't see any advantages other than it was educational content
Disadvantages: To expensive, No support, Old technology
...I recently had a consultant from The Student Support Centre come to my home after we received a letter home from our son's school. He showed us the programme and explained how it would help our kids with their studies and then came the price which would have been over £2900 and it didn't cover the later school years and was really based around primary and early secondary. I must admit we were both excited about helping the kids, but I thought I would check a few of the review blogs to see what everyone thought about the company and the product before we finally committed ourselves. We are so glad that we did! It is very clear that many people feel ripped off with both the company and the product.
The price: very expensive. The support: apparently non-existent. The programme: Lacks motivation and appears to be old technology. We...

The Student Support Centre
Advantages: Good material
Disadvantages: poor support
...I have two children, 9 & 11 who have been using the material for around 2 years now. The DVD's and accompanying books are good but the support from the centre (in my opinion) is extremely poor. We unfortunately managed to lose one of the DVD's after about 6 months (my 2 year old likes to hide them!) and it was impossible to get a replacement from them; in fact they were completely unhelpful and unsympathetic about the whole thing and just suggested skipping one of the modules which my son didn't want to do and he then lost interest. They also have this very odd payment arrangement (shows as a £3K loan from Clydesdale bank on my credit report!) where they require 2 seperate payments each month, for me this was £75 and £7.50. Unfortunately when I changed banks the smaller one was overlooked and after 6 months they tried to get the bayliffs...

Student Support Centre
Advantages: ok for some primary children
Disadvantages: Expensive, you can get the same from free websites
...The course is expensive and my children have not used it even though I am still paying for it.
I have discovered that the School is paid by the Student Support Centre to allow them to send out letter/leaflets about their product which again are vague and misleading.
I thought I was going to get some free help but it turns out SSC are a Sales Organisation where the sales people are delivering a script to the customer which directs the customer to agreeing to a sale.
The script addresse any concerns the customer has and provides invalid cost comparisons with private tutor. No parent is going to use a tutor for their children every week from the time they start school all the way until they finish school at 16, continously - hence cost comparison is not valid. This is all a sales pitch which misleads the parent.
Further...

Suunto Vector Black Negative face
Advantages: Light weight, good features if calibrated properly. Rugged.
Disadvantages: Quite big, but it does do a lot to be fair!!!!
...Spent some time looking for a good outdoor watch with Altimeter, Compass and Barometric Pressure etc.. The Vector hits all those and so far seems pretty accurate. The compass once calibrated properly is accurate to within 3-5 degrees, one nice feature is the levelling bubble on the face that allows you to get a more accuarte reading. A big watch in terms of circumferance but really light weight you will not notice it on your wrist after a few minutes.
The Altimeter is pretty good but you do need to update it quite regularly, the best way to do this is to put the height in to the Altimeter, being one of the older watches in the suunto range it doesn't have the function as some of the newer one s do of being able to freeze the altimeter mode when at home and leave it in Barometer mode and then switch to Altimeter when out hiking, but i...
