Surrey with a fringe on top

Advantages: Plenty of internationals in current squad
Disadvantages: County form disrupted by test calls

...The Surrey side of the 1950s was perhaps one of the finest county sides ever. The team won seven consecutive county championships. The team consisted of great players such as Ken Barrington, Peter May, Alec + Eric Bedser, Jim Laker, Tony Lock, Peter Loader etc. Ken Barrington - was a hard-hitting batsman. He even managed the England touring team to the West Indies in 1980-81. On that tour there was the infamous Robin Jackman affair, which needed all of Ken’s diplomatic skills. The strain proved too much for him and he passed away on that tour with a heart attack. Peter May - was England captain in the early 1960s. His highest test score is 285 not out. Surrey Super Surrey

Advantages: Good main squad of 16 players
Disadvantages: Might be stuck without a spinner soon, still playing division 2 1dayers

...Current county champions Surrey, who would bet against them winning it again. They have a team that excites with Ali Brown and Ian Ward providing the fireworks then batsmen like Alec Stewart, Graham Thorpe, Mark Butcher and the Hollioake brothers behind them. Martin Bicknell (how has he only managed a few appearances for England) and Alex Tudor lead the bowling attack backed up by Saqlain Mushtaq and Ian Salisbury. Plus there is youth comming through like Tim Murtagh and Kevin Barrett. When you go and watch the Surrye Lions there is a little something else though, there are plenty of attractions for the kids, face paintings, demonstrations, meet the stars and more, and a relaxed atmosphere for the grown-ups to enjoy what they are there for....

Surrey Uni in general '04-'05 & dance studies

Advantages: great location, nice campus, great placement opportunities, good graduate employment rate
Disadvantages: high cost of living

...I am embarking on my final year at Surrey Uni on the undergraduate BA Hons in Dance and Culture course. CAMPUS This University has just one campus, in Guildford, situated next to Guildford Cathedral and approximately a 10 minute walk from the town centre, train and bus station. The campus itself is quite small in comparison to other Universities, which I believe is one of its many advantages, with so many things on hand: a bank, a small convenience shop, a launderette, a health surgery, various bars/cafes/restaurants at affordable prices, a gym, a large library (housing the National Resource Centre for Dance, the only one of its kind in the world) and of course, the Students Union! The Union, currently under needed refurbishment, offers a range of services and societies which are all promoted at the Freshers Fair which takes...

Thinking about going to watch Surrey?

Advantages: A team full of internationals and entertainers
Disadvantages: Can very occasionally lose as spectacularly as they usually win!!

...If you are, then I wholeheartedly recommend that you go NOW - this current squad is arguably the most talented ever seen in English domestic cricket and you are almost guaranteed to see a good day's entertainment. In years to come virtually EVERY member of the current team will be remembered as one of the county's all-time greats and, believe me, sides like this one only come along once in a generation. Surrey University

Advantages: Close to London but still cheap
Disadvantages: Everywhere you walk you are on a hill

...Surrey University (or UNIS as it wants to be know these days) has basically something for everyone. Firstly, the beer is fairly cheap, the newly refurbished union is always welcoming and the increasingly lively town of Guildford is only a ten minute walk away. You are only five minutes walk away from the mainline train station which has fast services to London. But walk into the green parkland part of the campus and you find peace and quiet. There is also the two sports centres with cricket, rugby, hockey and football pitches and the music centre, with practice rooms and it's choirs and bands. Finally, the accomodation is cheap and plentiful for those that do not wish to live on campus....

...Hi, While we are on the subject of Surrey i would like to bring to your attention about the prospects of the Hollioake brothers being recalled for the Ashes. I believe they should look at Adam's averages this Year in the Cricinfo County Championship an average of 49.66 with a his Highest score being 77, which i do believe was hit against Essex in the drawn County Game a few weeks back. As long as England do not use him as a Bowler they will be alright especially now by the Top Class Batsmen in the Test Side now i feel he will be able to last longer at the crease now England can now apply the extra confidence, which they so desparately needed during the Test Series in 1999 against New Zealand that Series would see England fall to the Worst Test Team in the World. ...I am a first year management studies student at the University of Surrey and am having a fantastic time. The course is both interesting and challenging. I would reccommend it to any person who possesss a variety of skills and has clear ambitions about what they wish to do in terms of a career. Me aside, the University is a great place. Surrey is one of the best campus University's in the South East. The campus has everything a student needs including sport facilities, shops, launderette, Union building and of course food outlets of great variety open almost all the time. THe library and computing facilities are also very adequate. Guildford has claimed to be the most affluent town in the South East and the variety of shops and other retail outlets in the town reflect this. The essential pubs and bars also are plentiful in Guildford...

The Oval All-Stars

Advantages: Good strength in depth, excellent bowler in Saqlain
Disadvantages: England call-ups can weaken the team on paper

...Having been deserved county champions for the last 2 years it looks like Surrey will be close again this year. Although they are not top (yet) and certainly not running away with it the return of Saqlain Mushtaq now the Pakistan tour has finished will give a timely boost to the side. Surrey are now captained by Adam Hollioake and he still looks to fulfil his early promise and secure a place in the England team. He is possibly the next England captain in waiting if Nasser Hussain either starts to falter or injures his fingers or thumb (again). Hollioake is a good all-round cricketer but as yet still looks a good county player rather than a complete test player. Surrey have a strong opening pair in Mark Butcher and Ian Ward.
