A good, cheap set of 5.1 surround sound speakers.

Advantages: Cheap, fair sound quality and build, good for gaming and films on PC
Disadvantages: Few flaws such as stand not standing up, problem with sub.

...I brought this not really knowing what I was getting, I couldn't find many reviews about them, and wasn't really 100% sure about buying them. I went ahead anyway, and I don't regret buying them. They are a good set of speakers for gaming and films, I also use them for music, but really, to get the most out of your music you need a good HiFi, as these speakers don't have the best sound quality going. So, if you want a good set of surround sound speakers for your PC, these will do nicely, and won't break the bank. The sound isn't all that bad though, the subwoofer produces fair bass, which plays the lower frequencys nicely, though the driver is on the small side a bit and they make a strange noise when you put them up too high, like the speaker is hitting the casing, so not too well designed there... The mid range and highs are good...

Although I don't think it will damage the battery on the ipod I unplug the unit to be sure. There is no USB connection so you can't link it to your PC. I have been using the Unit for 6 months now and it seems to be fairing up well. No damage to anything no signs of wear and tear. I use the dock daily. It is expensive compared to others but it is BOSE. I paid 250US for mine. If you're looking for a stylish good sounding speaker/dock system that you can place permanently in your home or office for your ipod this is it. Due to its weight, size and lack of battery power I wouldn't class this as a portable set of speakers. However if you want to take it...

Bose Sound Dock (2nd Generation)

Advantages: Incredible sound from such a small unit, good build quality

...I bought this unit in November this year. There are two models, the original sound dock which I think is about £199 and the second generation one (the one I bought) which was £279 from John Lewis. The second generation one is basically the same as the first except: a) it has a rechargeable battery b) it has a swing out dock c) it has an auxiliary (3.5mm) jack input If you just want a basic model, then go for the first gen one. I got the second gen one because I thought the battery was a useful addition as is the auxiliary 3.5mm input - I have mine connected to an apple airport express that streams itunes from my laptop to my bedroom although I have used it in a friends house with my ipod too.
