Desperately Seeking Susan.

Advantages: Great, original and funny film with good acting.
Disadvantages: You may want to watch it again and again.

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54

Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.

Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied. On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. ...I'm The King Of The Castle is a book by Susan Hill. It is about two young boys named Edmund Hooper and Charles Kingshaw. Kingshaw moved into a place called Warings which Edmund and his dad owns. This causes conflict between both of the boys. In the book you see Edmund Hooper mentally and physical torturing Charles Kingshaw to the extreme. I JUST WISH WE COULD HAVE DREAMT OF MANDERLEY AGAIN !!

... MRS DE WINTER SUSAN HILL I have always found something in Susan Hill?s writing that is very characteristic of the gothic type writing of Daphne du Maurier. When I found that Ms Hill had written a ?sequel? to my favourite ever book ? ?Rebecca?, called Mrs De Winter I wanted to read it but yet I didn?t. I wanted to see how Susan Hill would deal with the character of ?Mrs De Winter? and yet I was afraid that she would spoil my mental image of the original book. But once the seeds were planted, it was no use, I had to get a copy of the book and read it. On the inside cover flap of my book it reads, "Daphne du Maurier would approve.", but would she and would I, that remains to be seen. It was good but that mirror just wasn't misty enough

Advantages: Atmospheric, gothic ghost story that is very well written
Disadvantages: The ending left me rather flat

... THE MIST IN THE MIRROR SUSAN HILL If you like true gothic ghost stories you could do a lot worse than trying one of Susan Hill's novels. She is probably wider known for her novel 'The Woman in Black', which was turned into a play and also made into a TV movie. I loved, The Woman in Black, and like a good ghost story, it did haunt me. So when I saw 'The Mist in the Mirror' I was quite excited at the thought of reading it, and I wasn't wholly disappointed. It doesn't reach the same giddy heights of The Woman in Black I am afraid, but is still well worth a read. Mainly for the great skill that Ms Hill has for imitating perfectly the gothic style of Victorian ghost stories.
