SUSE, a beginners Linux
Advantages: More programs, better hardware support and easier setup
Disadvantages: Lots of stuff you don't need
...SUSE are renowned for making really good and full distributions of Linux. I've always made a point of buying the professional version (usually around £50) and nothing less. I've been buying it since around SUSE 6.2 and it has always been top of my books.
SUSE bundle everything you could possibly need, and loads of stuff you don't. Quite often you find some funky stickers and maybe a case badge, keyring or pin badge depending on the edition. But to the important stuff!
SUSE produce a serious manual with their products. Few newbies know that everything you could possibly need to know is installed and can be accessed with the MAN command, but this information is usually technical and less user friendly. The manuals make everything less technical, more straight forward and take you step by step for all different kinds of setup...

SuSE Linux personal Edition version 8.2
Advantages: One of the best mainstream Linux Distros to get
Disadvantages: Not very good if you are not familiar with the KDE and linux Operating Environments
...SuSE Linux 8.2 ? Personal Edition
How I Became a Linux Fan??.well, who wouldn?t?
I decided to change over to Linux after hearing great of the great stability, reliability and what other people had said about it. I read reviews, guides and opinions on just about every distribution of Linux that I could find.
I had almost given up my search, thinking about how much I don?t like windows and its annoying blockish feel to the whole GUI, I still kept searching and decided to go for one of the mainstream Linux distributions. I found that one of the best ones to get apparently was SuSE Linux 8.2, not 9 or 9.1 since they are not as good and host less features than 8.2.
I decided that I would but it, although you can get it totally free of any of their mirror ftp sites that host and you only have to pay for your connection charge...

LINUX for the NEW to linux people
Advantages: very easy to use very simular to windows / MAC
Disadvantages: NONE
...Linux is poping up every where these days and it is said that 80% of internet servers are Unix / Linux based. So what is available for me and you the home or new to linux user.
SuSE linux brought to you by Novell is a great home or business linux solution.
it comes pretty complete with almost any piece of software you could need in the box.
i recomend SUSE because of its ease of use and simularity to windows or mac depending which you choose at start up. this can all sound very confusing but is very simple, In linux you have a choice of GUI (graphical user interface - windows) 2 known popular GUIs are GNOME and KDE. gthe GNOME desktop enviorment is very like macs OSx and the KDE desktop environment is very like windows. and you can choose which to use at logon with one click.
the installation process is very simple and if you...

SUSE 6.4 - A Servers Eye View
Advantages: Good range of packages, friendly installation. Good Documentation.
Disadvantages: Perhaps a bit too friendly and helpful for an experienced user?
...I have been building Linux Servers for over 5 years now, and often use different "flavours" of the OS as a starting point. Either as an experiment, or because a collegue has just dropped some latest version on my desk saying, "Hey, have a look at this".
For in house servers I usually start off from the latest SlackWare that I have handy, and add the latest Kernel to that. For customers I will usually just install a recent version of one of the well known distributions.
A few months ago a collegue agin dropped SuSE 6.4 CD-ROM edition on my desk, as I was just about to build a server for in house use I thought I would give it a try.
The installation was very friendly, and the getting started documentation good. Perhaps a little too friendly for someone like myself who just wants to "Get on and do it!" However I'm sure it will be...

Suse - Nothing but a good cover.
Advantages: Read op
Disadvantages: Read op
...Although this is a very large distribution containing hundreds of thousands of programs and games, aside from redhat this is one of the worst I’ve come across, Because of the so many features this Linux distribution is also vulnerable to many Internet attacks and a lot of speed issues.
S.U.S.E 6.3 comes packed with approximately 1500 applications and in total takes up about 6gb of hard-disk space, In total it takes about 8 hours to install and incredibly annoying if you decide to install at night.
This is a feature rich Distribution, but how does it perform against other Distributions?
One word, Poorly. This Distribution has to many default startup services making it incredibly slow on older machines, which of course as most people know makes it also very annoying.
Another thing wrong with this distribution is that it...

Suse 9.3 one of the best
Advantages: Fast, easy to use,
Disadvantages: no gui for installing packages or software.
...Suse 9.3 is an excellent operating system which incorporates KDE 3.4 and Gnome 2.0 which are two of the best desktops on the market.
Suse 9.3 far exceeds Microsoft XP as an operating system it is extremely stable with the added advantage that Suse 9.3 is free to down load from the Novell website or it may be pick up off the front of any linux magazine its alternative Microsoft office will set you back £350.
Suse 9.3 comes with major software packages that are just as good or better than Microsoft Office in particular Open Office 2.0 is far better than Office XP in all areas except one and that is Microsoft Office comes with Access Database and open office has a database package which is not as good.
Suse 9.3 has been preceeded by 10.0 which i have tested and is even better.
Network set up in Suse 9.3 is done by the system...

Super Easy Linux
Advantages: Very: fast, reliable, easy to use, cheap.
Disadvantages: none.
...SuSE 6.4 makes Linux look easier than it has ever been, but with just as much power as ever before. Since YaST 2 (Yet another setup tool) has been availible, setting up and installing linux has become easier than ever. Simply put the CD or DVD in your PC, reboot and follow the instructions. And if you do get stuck the 500 page manual will be sure to help you out with what ever the difficulty is. Another nice product by Suse
Advantages: Easy to install, Reliable, good support
Disadvantages: Costly if you do not require support.
...Suse have been constaintly introducing great Linux distros and this version is no exception.
From the moment you insert your installation disk in your PC you know it is going to be a very easy install. Suse use an installer called "Yast" to guide you through the instalation process.
In the past Linux was only suitable for computer experts, Today anyone with a little computer experience can easily install and use Linux by Suse. It used to be the case where the user would be required to decide exactly what packages where to be installed and then install each one from the instalation CD's. With Suse there are a range or pre-set installations that you can choose from. It means you do not have to know what is being installed, you simply let it know what sort of system you require and it installs the packages required. For example if...

Slackware 12.0 - Linux for today.
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: None really.
...Slackware is an operating system based on the Linux kernel. People often refer to Linux as an alternative to Microsoft Windows or Apple MacOSX. But in fact Linux is the kernel on top of which all the 'user space' software runs, and Slackware is just one example of a Linux based OS. There are many, many more. The differences between the various distros, as they are known, largely boil down to how everything is put together. The actual software that they use is the same.
If I've so far blinded you with science, I'm sorry. It's not actually particularly complicated, which is one of the things which using a Linux based OS has taught me. Microsoft Windows, for example, tends to make people feel somewhat at a loss when things don't work. Using Linux, and particularly Slackware, has taught me how things actually work, and consequently I am...

suse 6.4 evaluation cd -- how it went for me
Advantages: reiser fs/ stable secure flexable os/ graphical insatll
Disadvantages: slow/ freezing install
...When I first got by CheapBytes suse 6.4 evaluation cd I was excited- I
could have my system kitted out to run ReiserFS formated drives. ( For
those of you who don't know reiser fs is a 32-bit jourtnaling filesystem
which means after hard reboots, fsck takes seconds instead of
minutes). But alas the installation left much to be desired. Firstly I
could not use my mouse. On one of the VTs the kernel clained it could not
fine the device file. A minor problem but I caould still use my keyboard
and the worst is yet to come. This is the first time I insatlled Suse
even though I have been using Linux for a Year, it is also the first time
with a WIMP gui (I installed manny 7.02 to replace rh 6 a few months
earlier- the WIMP install didn't work for me then). When insatlling
the system I though it crashed. But it turned out to be a system...
