Sushi for beginners
Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -
...Sushi. Raw fish - it never really appealed to me . A couple of times I did brave trying small sushi packs from supermarkets, but never found them to my taste. But, I'm a brave soldier, so when my mum invited me out to Yo!Sushi in Nottingham, I decided to go and give it another try.
This restaurant is situated in the Lace Market area of Nottingham, a few minutes walk from the train station, and about 5 minutes walk from the Market Square in the heart of the city . There is a tram stop right outside .
Even with me being wary of sushi, I could immediately see some good points to the restaurant - you can whip the dish you want right off the conveyor belt, so no sitting around waiting for your meal . You could see the dishes being prepared, which is always reassuring - especially as every 15 minutes an alarm goes off indicating all...

TAKEAWAY SUSHI
Advantages: The fish isn't raw.
Disadvantages: Would benefit from more fish; not for those who don't love rice.
...テークアウトの寿司 Or TAKEAWAY SUSHI (Ciao wouldn't allow me my Japanese title.....)
I love sushi and I also love the Marks and Spencer's Food Hall for the odd treat here and there. The Fish Roll, Nigiri and Makri Sushi Selection is one of my favourite occasional treats and I just love it!
First a little bit about sushi:
Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish which began centuries ago as a method of preserving fish. Cleaned, raw fish and rice were pressed between layers of salt and weighted with a stone. After several weeks, the stone was removed and replaced with a light cover, a few months after that, the fermented fish and rice were considered ready to eat.
Today there are many different types of sushi, traditionally served with raw fish, sometimes wrapped in seaweed...

RAW FISH......Sushi Please!
Advantages: low fat and cheap
Disadvantages: none
...Tesco Sushi Selection Pack......
A year ago the idea of eating sushi would probably have made me feel a little sick, I mean RAW FISH who would eat that! I usually like my fish nicely cooked and flaky not slimy and still alive. However as I had decided this is the year for trying new things and living life to the full I decided to give sushi a chance. Helping along this new challenge was the fact that I saw you could purchase a snack pack of sushi in Tesco for a mere £1!
So my first ever sushi experience was the beginning of this year and I haven't looked back. Tesco £1 snack sized pack was well worth trying as it gave me an idea of the taste of certain sushi rolls. Being ready made and fresh is very convenient for me as I tend to have lunch on the go. The Tesco range is by the far best around (as Morrison's near me only...

Fun and accessible Japanese food - sushi snobs need not apply
Advantages: Healthy, tasty, filling Japanese food in an imaginative format
Disadvantages: Can be a little expensive for what you get
...*A healthy concept that has led to a successful chain*
Yo! Sushi (Y!S) is (for the UK) relatively original in that diners are served a wide range of tasty Japanese dishes from a conveyor belt. The company currently claims to offer '91 dishes, including sashimi, makis and nori wrapped hand rolls through to hot staples such as chicken katsu curry.' For obvious reasons of freshness and health and safety, the bulk of the hot dishes are made to order by their efficient and busy chefs.
Dishes are served on uniform small round plates covered with domed plastic lids that trundle around the conveyor belt until they take the fancy of diners perched around the belt and at adjoining booths for larger groups. We've eaten at various Y!S restaurants around London, although the branches at the Trocadero and County Hall (Westminster) are our usual...

Sushi - My New Best Friend
Advantages: low fat and calories
Disadvantages: salty
...Marks & Spencer Sushi?..
I decided in January that this year is the year to try new things and this advice spurred me on to buy my first ever trial of Sushi a few months back. I initially saw sushi ready to eat in the sandwich section of Tesco and the smaller boxes only cost £1 so I thought I didn?t have much to loose by trying it even if I didn?t like it. Anyway I needn?t have worried because I loved it and haven?t stopped eating it since.
Marks & Spencer Sushi pack was the latest one I have tried and to be honest I think it is the best out of the lot. Compared to Tesco Sushi, the M&S looks a lot more professional as it is made into circular pieces whereas the Tesco Sushi is squarer.
There were several sizes available in M&S but I only wanted a lunch time substitute for a sandwich so opted for the £3 packet. In this...

Hit and run sushi
Advantages: quick - and you can eat as much as you want
Disadvantages: not an authentic sushi experience
...The idea of Running Sushi sounded very intriguing, and so I decided to desert the Akakiko chain, or Toko Ri that I have been to so often, and try the Running Sushi bar in Laudongasse (8th District – public transport either Tram route 5 or 33 or the 13A bus to Laudongasse), there is also another Tokyo Running Sushi restaurant in the 19th District (Döblinger Hauptstraße – tram 37 to Gatterburggasse). Basically as you can imagine, you pay a fixed cover charge and sit in front of a conveyor belt and you take what you fancy and as much of it as you fancy, making this a way of having a cheap and filling sushi session.
The cover charge stands at about ATS140 for lunchtimes and ATS180 for evenings, and then you can literally eat as much as you want. The rice however is not of the finest quality, and friends have told me stories...

The sushi with no name
Advantages: Fun eating concept
Disadvantages: Poor choice, anonymous, pricey food
...~ The Yo! Sushi concept ~
Pre-prepared plates of sushi travel around a conveyor belt which customers sit along and you face the kitchen area so can watch the chefs at work. You select the dishes you want yourself and pay at the end according to how many plates you?ve had. Plates are colour coded to indicate price. Hot food is also available by ordering from the chefs.
~ What was it like ~
I love sushi. It?s tasty, it?s healthy, it?s different. So I was desperate to try one of the Yo! Sushi restaurants around London as it looked like a lot of fun with the food going round on a conveyor belt.
When I was working in Farringdon recently, I was delighted to see a Yo! Sushi branch there. A colleague and I went in for lunch. We sat at the bar admiring the dishes going passed us on the conveyor. We could see the different coloured...

Sushi that's not good, not bad, not expensive , but not cheap
Advantages: Is "moderately" fresh. Is nicely presented. Is Edible.
Disadvantages: You won't feel the need to tell anyone how "good" it is. It's only medicore.
...Finding great sushi, in a non-Japanese setting, is about as hard as finding great Fish & Chips in a non-British setting. In other words, pre-packaged sushi is only.....mediocre, at best. Does that make me sound like a pretentious sushi snob? Probably. =(
I was more than willing to like this party tray of various types of Sushi. My mind was telling me "well, it's better than nothing" and " you don't have time to make your own". So, I grabbed 3 of these platters, and headed out to a friends house for an engagement party. They looked "decent' enough. I was glad they weren't ALL rolls , and had a couple Sashimi's thrown in (Even though it was only smoked salmon and prawn.....not real Sashimi).
When I got to the party and helped set up the food, I noticed after an hour or so, the "pretend" Sashimi was never even touched. So, I went up...

Yo! Sushi Bullring Birmingham
Advantages: Tasty, makes a chance
Disadvantages: Expensive
...~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Where it is situated
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Although on here, it is advertised as 'Upper Mall' which it may be, it is confusing as Yo! Sushi is situated on the lower floor of Selfridges in the Bullring Shopping Centre in Birmingham City Centre. It is visible from the outside of Selfridges and is located on the right hand side of the shop. The Bullring has a carpark which takes you right into the shopping centre, although it takes you to the opposite side of the Bullring, it is not far to walk. This carpark can be quite expensive so if you know the area you are best to park somewhere else.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Yummy Yo! Sushi
Advantages: Fun, novel idea, easy to see what you are getting to eat, yummy!
Disadvantages: A little pricey if you eat lots!
...I was in London recently and we decided to have a look around Knightsbridge. We saw the Harrods supermarket and I was intrigued to see if things cost more in there than in other supermarkets, so off we went to have a look. Once we were inside there are a few snack bars and mini restaurant-type places. One of these was Yo! Sushi which I have been wanting to go to for ages.. so my boyfriend agreed to take me (yay!)
Basically, the Yo! Sushi bar consists of an open plan kitchen, and around that was a table that went around the entire thing (in a square - it looked almost like a breakfast bar) and then bar stools that sat around the table.
There were a lot of people there when we went in and there are only seats for around 30 people, but the staff were really friendly and said that we would get seated quickly. About a minute later we...
