sussex stationers, a sucess
Advantages: Cheap, cheerful and crazy prices
Disadvantages: Not enough of them around
...Being a hard up student, i'm always bargin hunting and when Sussex Stationers opened a branch in maidstone i was ecstatic! OK, so it sounds VERY sad, but it was not only interesting, but a life saver too. It opened right in the middle of the high street - oppostie what was Topshop - a perfect spot!
When I first saw it, i thought it was going to be another shop like poundland, wth really cheap and tacky things, that were really poor quality, but i was wrong! The front was filled with books, and not just any books, best sellers, releases and recent smash hits! They were up to date and the prices were unbelievable. £1 off, £5 off, and even £10 on some books. There were books that were just half the price of the r.r.p and wh smiths which was great! I'm not exactly a book worm, but i do like to read the odd book, and it's so nice to...

Good old sussex by the sea
Advantages: Varied attractions, beautiful scenery, quiet
Disadvantages: none
...The traditionnal song of Brighton and Hove Albion F.C. and what better way to describe this glorious county. What is even better is that it is not too far from London yet it has none of the smug, dull Home Counties conformity that Surrey or Hertfordshire has. There is a definite distinct Southern English identity different from London and its environs.A warm May weekend spent in the Sussex countryside is a pleasure to wish for dearly in the middle of this cold, bleak January!
The attractions are manifold, the rolling, softness of the Downs in summer (and their bleak beauty in Winter), the eclectic alternative nature of Brighton standing side by side with the faded gentility of Eastbourne and the charming old town of Hastings, the charming towns of Arundel, Steyning, Rye and Lewes and the delights of Ashdown Forest and the Weald.

Choose Sussex for variety
Advantages: Whatever you want, you can find it in Brighton (except a football team!)
Disadvantages: ... fog on the downs can get you down(!?)
...I studied at Sussex between 1993 & 1996. I beleive that Sussex can be the choice for almost any student.
I read Mathematics (yes, maths and I'm not really mad, honest!)
The campus has a variety of types of room (first years only normally) but then you have a wide choice of locations around. The peaceful quiet villages such as Woodingdean or the bright lights of Brighton itself.
I regret not getting more into the social scene at an early stage during my stay as some of the friends I chose were not too interested in the night life.
In terms of study the lecturers standards varied from absolute nutters to super intelligent (probably) but utterly useless at passing on their knowledge. The IT facilities were pretty good even then and I know that they have developed more facilities.
THe sports centre was good, with quite a few things...

Radisson Edwardian Sussex Hotel
Advantages: Location, comfort, friendly
Disadvantages: Small bathroom, minibar prices
...I stayed in the Sussex hotel over Easter and had a great time.
The hotel is located about 1 minute from Marble Arch underground station and one block past Selfridges, so if you like to shop this hotel is ideally located for you.
It's quite an impressive building from the outside and although the entrance looks pretty none discript, when you walk into reception it turns out to a lovely modern hotel.
I was greeted by a very friendly and competent Receptionist, who gave me all the info I needed and checked me into my room with no hassles at all. Security is quite high as you need the key card to move around the building and to work the lifts.
The room itself has very modern decor and very comfortable furnishings. The bed is so comfy, by far has to be the best hotel bed I have ever slept in, and I stay away from home quite...

Sussex - for people who really want to learn
Advantages: Great, easy to use library, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Hilly!
...I'm just about to finish my third year at Sussex (In June anyway), and just thought id take this oppertunity to tell everyone else how great it is.
I never lived on campus, so i cant tell you much about that side of things, other than East slope is nasty (was only built for the builders to live in and was supposed to be torn down - but now it has a cult status of being the slums of uni) and Lewes court 1 and 2 are the best places to live.
Campus is set in the beautiful surroundings of the Sussex downs, and is mostly protected in a nature reserve, so if you dont like the idea of staring out the windows at a city scape, this is the uni for you. There are also vast areas of fields and greenery to enjoy in the summer. Apparantly it is also one of the sunniest campuses in Britain, and i would have to agree that it is a very sunny place...

Sussex University is great
Advantages: Different way of studying, Brighton is a great place to be, is a fantastic campus.
Disadvantages: Accomodation on campus is tricky to get, is probably not as cheap as other (non-London) unis because Brighton is not a cheap place to live.
...I chose Sussex university because it is one of the few Universities in the country to offer the joint degree Computer Science with Artificical Intelligence (a mouthful, I know, but we know it as CSAI). Brighton is a pretty cool place to live, there's loads of clubs, bars, restaurants, pubs etc, and the Lanes is a fantastic place to go shopping (students, beware, Brighton is an easy place to spend lots of money in). But as for the University, they are one of the few places to work on a schools basis - ie the university is split into sections of schools, not departments. For example, I study CSAI in the school of CGOS (school of cognitive sciences). You can also study things like linguistics, plain computer science, philosophy and psychology in COGS, so there's a real crossover of interests. If you studied something like psychology in...

Gargoyles smoking cigars , Chichester Cathedral
Advantages: FREE, interesting art work and a Cathedral in daily use
Disadvantages: It is a church so may not appeal to all
...Chichester Cathedral, Chichester, Sussex
Chichester Cathedral is a Christian church built over 900 years ago in the city of Chichester in Sussex. It has had a mixed history and been rebuilt and had other parts added over the years. In 1075 William the Conqueror ordered a cathedral to be built in Chichester and the main part of the present building was dedicated in 1108. Then again after two serious fires it was re - consecrated in 1199. The 277 ft spire is actually Victorian although it was originally added in the late 13th or early 14th century after it collapsed in 1861 it was rebuilt by Sir Gilbert Scott in four years.
During the fifteenth century several important features were added to the cathedral: the cloisters, enclosing the south transept; the detached bell-tower, and the spire these changed the shape of the Cathedral...

A Georgian Gem
Advantages: Cathedral town/city with many historical attractions and good shops
Disadvantages: Difficult to park. Prices are on the high side.
...Having lived and worked in Chichester (or nearby) for the last 20 odd years, I think I now know the place well enough to write a half decent review on it's main sights and attractions. For those of you unfamiliar with the name, Chichester is a town situated in West Sussex on the south coast of England. It's an elegant and historic town with some lovely examples of Georgian architecture and there's plenty to see and do. The main landmark is Chichester Cathedral (more on that later), which is over 1,000 years old and whose spire can be seen from many miles away.
I'd describe Chichester as a rather elegant town, but you do need to know the place fairly well in order to find all its hidden treasures. Chichester doesn't give up its secrets easily - it's full of surprises, but they're pretty well concealed and mostly unflaunted. You...

The Felbridge Hotel, Sussex
Advantages: Furnishings and decor brand new, every detail considered
Disadvantages: Restaurant and wine list expensive
...The Felbridge Hotel, East Grinstead, Sussex - 'four star luxury grade' - changed hands this year and has been completely refurbished to a very high standard in a contemporary style - all chocolate, beige and cream. Maybe not to everyone's taste - not very cosy and perhaps lacking a bit of character - but I loved it. Everything clean, shiny and brand spanking new. It is situated next to a main road but this didn't really detract from the hotel and we didn't notice any noise. The road is quite hard to cross on foot and it isn't easy to turn right against the flow of traffic - although we managed ok.
I booked for a weekend break in August, staying with my other half, on a special deal of £110 for executive double room including full English breakfast. Standard rooms, luxury studios and suites are also available - please check...

Midhurst - West Sussex - The Essentials
Advantages: Central location in the new South Downs National Park. Top hotels, good B&B's.
Disadvantages: Nothing to do on wet days. Limited number of good shops..
.... But first do your homework by exploring the section on Midhurst Pages. Cabbage White was Maison Jules - hairdressers where the bank heist was plotted. Nest door Burgage House was the Southern Bank.(2006). The Swan Inn became the main film set for 2009, and Church Cottage for scenes in both 2006 and 2009.
6. Tudor Midhurst - an Outdoor Learning Experience.
A lot of fun both with and without a camera may be had studying Tudor buildings including the Tudor Castle of Cowdray aka Cowdray House. Consult Midhurst Pages for details. Cowdray Castle is very popular with schools and parties are catered for out of season or on days when it is not open to the public.
A new website www.tudorhouses.org is to be launched in early 2010. This will focus on the Tudor old town and Cowdray. It will also include material from elsewhere in West Sussex.
