Street Lurvin'

Advantages: Lots of big tunes
Disadvantages: A couple of tunes lack energy

...The Atlanta R&B singer Lloyd (Polite) released his second album in 2007. The record, ?Street Love? featured some of his most well-known tracks, and although he broke through with his debut, this is the album which had him really come up with some of his highest-quality work. 1. ?Lloyd? (Intro) 2. ?You? Samplign Spandau Ballet?s ?True?, this one finds the artist doing a banger of a collaboration with Lil? Wayne, in the time when Weezy started off his streak of featured tracks designed as a build-up to his ?Tha Carter III? album. It gets this thing underway well and shows off his incredible vocals form the get-go. **Five Stars** 3. ?Certified? It is Jazzy Pha who is seen to behind this one, and it appears that he really knows what to do (based upon his Crunk & B work with other Atlanta R&B singers, and so in order to bring in that...

sussex stationers, a sucess

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful and crazy prices
Disadvantages: Not enough of them around

...Being a hard up student, i'm always bargin hunting and when Sussex Stationers opened a branch in maidstone i was ecstatic! OK, so it sounds VERY sad, but it was not only interesting, but a life saver too. It opened right in the middle of the high street - oppostie what was Topshop - a perfect spot! When I first saw it, i thought it was going to be another shop like poundland, wth really cheap and tacky things, that were really poor quality, but i was wrong! The front was filled with books, and not just any books, best sellers, releases and recent smash hits! They were up to date and the prices were unbelievable. £1 off, £5 off, and even £10 on some books. There were books that were just half the price of the r.r.p and wh smiths which was great! I'm not exactly a book worm, but i do like to read the odd book, and it's so nice to...

Straight from the Street

Advantages: fascinating, in depth, great price, amazing read, good length
Disadvantages: none

...In all honesty, my relationship with ITV soap Coronation Street has declined a lot over the past few months. I think I have watched one episode this year, and that was a repeat from last December. However, even though I may not keep up with the storylines, there are indeed several members of the cast who I completely worship. One of these is the fantastic William Roache. William Roache plays Ken Barlow in Coronation Street, a very intelligent and short-tempered man. Roache was born in 1932 in April, and from this book it is clear that he has led a very interesting life, though one that may seem normal to him. He was awarded an MBE in 2000 for his service to Coronation Street, and he is now the only original cast member left. Though its not only the MBE that makes Roache a fascinating and amazing man! In 2007 Roache published his...

The word on the Street

Advantages: Triumph name, price, looks, handling, engine etc etc
Disadvantages: No fairing so lack of weather protection

...Bit of background: ------------------------- I already own a Triumph Daytona 995i, which I am happy with. Time will come some day when I may have to change it, or simply buy another bike for regular running. After the news that my local Triumph dealer is closing their franchise, I decided to look for the next nearest one. This led me to Team Roberts Triumph in Conisbrough (near Doncaster). Test ride Sir? ------------------ Arrived at the shop with just the intention of having a look round, really to see where it was and what it was like. Got chatting to the owner and after casual conversation the question came up: "Have you got your licence with you?" "Yes why?" "Can take that out for a blast if you like" -pointing to the gleaming black Street Triple, which was looking at me through the window. "Errrmmm no.. No its...

Good old sussex by the sea

Advantages: Varied attractions, beautiful scenery, quiet
Disadvantages: none

...The traditionnal song of Brighton and Hove Albion F.C. and what better way to describe this glorious county. What is even better is that it is not too far from London yet it has none of the smug, dull Home Counties conformity that Surrey or Hertfordshire has. There is a definite distinct Southern English identity different from London and its environs.A warm May weekend spent in the Sussex countryside is a pleasure to wish for dearly in the middle of this cold, bleak January! The attractions are manifold, the rolling, softness of the Downs in summer (and their bleak beauty in Winter), the eclectic alternative nature of Brighton standing side by side with the faded gentility of Eastbourne and the charming old town of Hastings, the charming towns of Arundel, Steyning, Rye and Lewes and the delights of Ashdown Forest and the Weald. Sussex...

Street Life

Advantages: Good quality of tracks
Disadvantages: only 10 songs

...and rewind is one of my favourite songs. Again dealing with loss after a one night stand, however done with a fair bit of humour, I love the line 'I'm not sleeping at night, but I'm going from bar to bar' 4. Million Faces Probably based on personal experiences this is a 'filler' song about the changes the singer has experienced since he became famous and moved away from home. Decent song but not a hit. 5. These Streets Title song to the album and a more up beat and fast paced version of the song above. Comparing his new London life to what he was used to in a quiet Scottish village. This was another of my favourites and one I think could make it as a single. 6. New Shoes A strange song about how one small change (in this case shoes, although could be a metaphor for love) suddenly changes all aspects of your life. I hated this song to...

Review of These Streets - Paolo Nutini

Streets ahead

Advantages: Wonderful, thought-provoking and gripping
Disadvantages: None

...I had a horrific day today. In work, one of my customers said he hoped I died - and quickly. The cash machine swallowed my card. So... made penniless and sentenced to death - just an average day really. Still, I can withdraw money tomorrow, and I doubt Mr. Atzel will be able to track me down and murder me, so all's well that ends well. Sometimes, there is a happy ending. Which brings me on to 'The Street', written by the legendary Jimmy McGovern, where there is generally a happy ending in each episode. How well do you know your neighbours? I like to think I know mine fairly well. Bill and Vera on one side, who I got pissed with my home-made Bailey's cheesecake; Derek on the other, a writer who tells me to turn my music down if I throw a party. But I don't know what goes on inside their houses - do I really want to? Yes, if its...

Review of The Street - Series 1 - Complete (DVD)

Green Street [Hooligans]

Advantages: Violence
Disadvantages: Elijah Wood, Bad Cockney Accents, Ridiculously Unrealist

...Hot on the heels of The Football Factory  comes another attempt at understanding the British thug sub-culture. This time (in an obvious attempt to increase American awareness) Elijah Wood is cast at the centre of it all, playing a Harvard journalism student turned hard-edged football hooligan. Sound ridiculous? It pretty much is. Green Street is not a hugely terrible film, but it is difficult one to take seriously. Matt Buckman (Wood) is wrongfully expelled from College, and jumps abroad a plane to London to visit his sister (Claire Forlani) and husband Steve (Marc Warren). Soon Matt starts hitting the local pubs and going to "Soccer" games with Steve's bad boy brother Pete (Charlie Hunnam), and becomes involved with the GSE firm (a supposed imitation of West Ham's notorious Inter-City Firm). As an actor, it is understandable by...
