Sussex University is great

Advantages: Different way of studying, Brighton is a great place to be, is a fantastic campus.
Disadvantages: Accomodation on campus is tricky to get, is probably not as cheap as other (non-London) unis because Brighton is not a cheap place to live.

...I chose Sussex university because it is one of the few Universities in the country to offer the joint degree Computer Science with Artificical Intelligence (a mouthful, I know, but we know it as CSAI). Brighton is a pretty cool place to live, there's loads of clubs, bars, restaurants, pubs etc, and the Lanes is a fantastic place to go shopping (students, beware, Brighton is an easy place to spend lots of money in). But as for the University, they are one of the few places to work on a schools basis - ie the university is split into sections of schools, not departments. For example, I study CSAI in the school of CGOS (school of cognitive sciences). You can also study things like linguistics, plain computer science, philosophy and psychology in COGS, so there's a real crossover of interests. If you studied something like psychology in...

sussex stationers, a sucess

Advantages: Cheap, cheerful and crazy prices
Disadvantages: Not enough of them around

...Being a hard up student, i'm always bargin hunting and when Sussex Stationers opened a branch in maidstone i was ecstatic! OK, so it sounds VERY sad, but it was not only interesting, but a life saver too. It opened right in the middle of the high street - oppostie what was Topshop - a perfect spot! When I first saw it, i thought it was going to be another shop like poundland, wth really cheap and tacky things, that were really poor quality, but i was wrong! The front was filled with books, and not just any books, best sellers, releases and recent smash hits! They were up to date and the prices were unbelievable. £1 off, £5 off, and even £10 on some books. There were books that were just half the price of the r.r.p and wh smiths which was great! I'm not exactly a book worm, but i do like to read the odd book, and it's so nice to...

Good old sussex by the sea

Advantages: Varied attractions, beautiful scenery, quiet
Disadvantages: none

...The traditionnal song of Brighton and Hove Albion F.C. and what better way to describe this glorious county. What is even better is that it is not too far from London yet it has none of the smug, dull Home Counties conformity that Surrey or Hertfordshire has. There is a definite distinct Southern English identity different from London and its environs.A warm May weekend spent in the Sussex countryside is a pleasure to wish for dearly in the middle of this cold, bleak January! The attractions are manifold, the rolling, softness of the Downs in summer (and their bleak beauty in Winter), the eclectic alternative nature of Brighton standing side by side with the faded gentility of Eastbourne and the charming old town of Hastings, the charming towns of Arundel, Steyning, Rye and Lewes and the delights of Ashdown Forest and the Weald. Sussex...

Worcester University

Advantages: Accomodation, Student Union, Sports, Clubs, Library, IT, History
Disadvantages: Expense

...I've been here getting on for around a week now and I must say that I have had an excellent time so far. Before accepting the offer to go Worcester I travelled to it to investigate it and to see if it was for me. After travelling around some of the other universitys that I got into I came to the conclusion that this one was more for me conpared to any of the others. Size ********* I've found that its small which makes it quaint in my eyes and from my opinion however I find a city that is huge can be a little too big and can appear scary and overwhelming at times. Worcesters size is perfect offering up Night Clubs, Food, Shops and culture. The University was originally opened as an emergency teaching college until only recently in the last few years it has been granted the ability to become a university. This means it has being...

Sussex - for people who really want to learn

Advantages: Great, easy to use library, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Hilly!

...I'm just about to finish my third year at Sussex (In June anyway), and just thought id take this oppertunity to tell everyone else how great it is. I never lived on campus, so i cant tell you much about that side of things, other than East slope is nasty (was only built for the builders to live in and was supposed to be torn down - but now it has a cult status of being the slums of uni) and Lewes court 1 and 2 are the best places to live. Campus is set in the beautiful surroundings of the Sussex downs, and is mostly protected in a nature reserve, so if you dont like the idea of staring out the windows at a city scape, this is the uni for you. There are also vast areas of fields and greenery to enjoy in the summer. Apparantly it is also one of the sunniest campuses in Britain, and i would have to agree that it is a very sunny place...

The University no one has heard of!

Advantages: Having everything on campus is very convenient
Disadvantages: But not so convenient when you don't live on campus

...I have been at Sussex University for just over a year now, and the main reaction that I get when I tell people of my generation (I'm 19) that I come here, is that they haven't hear of it! This may be because I know mainly people from 'up north', and perhaps Sussex is much better known 'down south', but it is a bit annoying when people haven't a clue about the place you study! People of my parents' generation who went to University tend to know Sussex though, probably because it was created in the 60s, and was a bit hotpot of revolutionary thinking both with students and the staff at the time. Things have cooled down now, though, and the protesting that is still a reasonably large part of the feel of things here generally has no link to the staff, unless it is a protest against some decision the university has taken. And as far as...

Choose Sussex for variety

Advantages: Whatever you want, you can find it in Brighton (except a football team!)
Disadvantages: ... fog on the downs can get you down(!?)

...I studied at Sussex between 1993 & 1996. I beleive that Sussex can be the choice for almost any student. I read Mathematics (yes, maths and I'm not really mad, honest!) The campus has a variety of types of room (first years only normally) but then you have a wide choice of locations around. The peaceful quiet villages such as Woodingdean or the bright lights of Brighton itself. I regret not getting more into the social scene at an early stage during my stay as some of the friends I chose were not too interested in the night life. In terms of study the lecturers standards varied from absolute nutters to super intelligent (probably) but utterly useless at passing on their knowledge. The IT facilities were pretty good even then and I know that they have developed more facilities. THe sports centre was good, with quite a few things...

Radisson Edwardian Sussex Hotel

Advantages: Location, comfort, friendly
Disadvantages: Small bathroom, minibar prices

...I stayed in the Sussex hotel over Easter and had a great time. The hotel is located about 1 minute from Marble Arch underground station and one block past Selfridges, so if you like to shop this hotel is ideally located for you. It's quite an impressive building from the outside and although the entrance looks pretty none discript, when you walk into reception it turns out to a lovely modern hotel. I was greeted by a very friendly and competent Receptionist, who gave me all the info I needed and checked me into my room with no hassles at all. Security is quite high as you need the key card to move around the building and to work the lifts. The room itself has very modern decor and very comfortable furnishings. The bed is so comfy, by far has to be the best hotel bed I have ever slept in, and I stay away from home quite...

What a uni!

Advantages: Great friendly city, cheap living, good reputation, excellent computer facilities
Disadvantages: Traffic, not particularly cheap union

...I'm currently a second year student at the University of Leeds and I 100% recommend it!! COMPUTING FACILITIES **************************** I would say that one of the strengths of Leeds University is its number of computer clusters. It has absolutely loads! There are 29 clusters currently provided by ISS (the university's computer network people) with over 1600 computers between them. I am currently sat in a rather large cluster with many, many computers free. ISS also provide screens telling you where computers are free, if the cluster of your first choice is full; so you can pretty much always find a computer if you want one! ISS also offer quite extensive wireless coverage over the campus. This means you can take your own laptop into uni and connect to the Internet via the university network. One of the main wireless areas...

The University of Birmingham

Advantages: Great teaching, facilities, opportunites and social life
Disadvantages: i am only here for 3 years, wish it could be more.

...I am a student at the University of Birmingham in my first year of the popular course; Sports and Exercise Sciences. Although it is a difficult university to get in to, there are hundreds of different courses to choose from if you are not accepted on your favoured course. Also, they are quite lenient with grades as I did not achieve the expected marks but still got in... shhh! So what made Birmingham my number one choice? As soon as I arrived at the open day and got a walk around the campus I knew this was the place for me. Not only is it one of the leading universities in the UK for my course it is a beautiful place to study with its landmark clock tower, luscious all weather pitches and modern redbrick buildings. I felt right at home here and could picture myself studying here for the future. The Campus is located in Selly Oak...
